Non-cancerous breast disease is a heterogeneous lesions disorder which more common than malignancy, accounting for about 90% of all breast problems. Early diagnosis of non-cancerous breast disease could be enforced by any assessment approach which has high accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity, that is fine needle aspiration biopsy, so that the treatment would provide better results. The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics of non-cancerous breast disease by fine needle aspiration biopsy diagnosis in anatomical pathology laboratory of RSUD dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh in period July 2008-July 2011. The type of this research was a descriptive review with retrospective approaching. The population in this study were all of non-cancerous breast disease which were diagnosed by fine needle aspiration biopsy in anatomical pathology laboratory of RSUD dr. Zainoel Abidin Banda Aceh and the sample was determined based on total population by the numberof 186 cases. The result of this study based on FNAB cytological diagnosis was found that most cases of non-cancerous breast disease were fibroadenoma as many as 77 cases (37,6%) and the most frequently found in age group 11-20 years, and by age group the most frequently cases found a total of 61 cases (32,8%) in age group 21-30 years. Further research needs to be done in depth by using a type of analytical research and increase the number of samples and variables of the study.Key words: Charateristics, non-cancerous breast disease, fine needle aspiration biopsy
