            Description
This study was conducted to find out whether cooperative learning technique is used in teaching writing and how was the technique implemented in writing class. The study applied a qualitative approach to obtain the answer to the questions. This study combines observation and interview as method of data collection. The instruments of this study are observation sheet and the interview guide; record by using mobile phone. Direct observation was held when the method was implemented by the teacher and it was recorded to be analyzed. Interview was conducted the second grade English teachers who teach writing and recorded using mobile phone. The data then transcribed to be analyzed. The respondent of this study were 3 English teachers who teach in the second year of SMA Negeri 4 Banda Aceh. This study found that, the teachers used various techniques of cooperative learning in teaching writing; teacher A used mind mapping and form the groups, teacher B used think-pair-share (TPS) and student team achievement division (STAD), teacher C used student team achievement division (STAD) in all teaching writing process. By using cooperative learning, students are able to achieve the goal of learning.
