Title
IMPLICATIONS OF SEMANTIC PROSODY IN LEARNING ENGLISH VOCABULARY
Description
Corpus linguistics is a method that assists empirical descriptions of language based on authentic data acquired from a corpus (single) or corpora (plural) (Biber, 2011). One of the innovative themes under the umbrella of corpus linguistics is semantic prosody, which illustrate that lexical items are usually associated with specific connotations (Louw, 1993; Sinclair, 1991; Stubbs, 1995). Stubbs (1996) further classifies semantic prosody into the terms negative, positive and neutral prosody. In conjunction with this line of research, this paper intends to further illustrate the semantic prosody of a word from a corpus-based approach to further exhibit its pedagogical implications in learning English vocabulary.
