Description

ABSTRACTCiticoline (CDP-choline) is an endogenous compound that serves as anintermediate compound in the synthesis of membrane phospholipids, acetylcholinesynthesis and as a metal donor. Citicoline can provide cholinergic andneuroprotective effects. Citicoline can also improve the structural and functionalintegrity of nerve cell membranes and helps repair cell membranes during cellinjury. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of citicoline on functionalstatus pascacedera sciaticus nerve. This study is an experimental laboratory studyusing 40 male white rats (Rattus norvegicus.). Rats were divided into 4 experimentalgroups: the group I as a positive control group, group II as a negative control group, while group III, IV as a treatment group. Positive control group is a group that iscovered with gelatin sponge soaked with 0.4 cc of saline solution 0.9%, the negativecontrol group was not given the treatment while the treatment group is the groupthat was wrapped with a gelatin sponge soaked with citicoline 0.4 cc and 0.8 ccciticoline. Assessment of functional status can be done by the method of walkingtrack. This method is done by letting the animals walk on the white paper along the100 m with a given compartment is dark. From the analysis of walking tracks andfollowed by a graphic analysis found that citicoline role in the improvement offunctional status. It can be concluded that citicoline may play a role in the process ofimproving functional status pascacedera sciaticus nerve in the rat.Keyword : Functional status, citicoline
