Background: Gout Arthritis is a disease caused by abnormal metabolism of uric acid that is called hyperuricemia. The prevalence of gout in Indonesia vary between 1,6 to 13,6 per thousand population. Hyperuricemia is a condition when uric acid levels> 7 mg / dl in men and> 6 mg / dl in women. Hyperuricemia is caused by two main causes, increasing production of uric acid and low excretion of uric acid. Purine diet is one of the factors that increase the levels of uric acid. Knowledge of purine diet is that needs more attention. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge purine diet with high levels of uric acid gout arthritis patients in Banda Aceh.Methods: Analitic method with cross-sectional study conducted in 52 respondents were taken with consecutive sampling method. The research was conducted on 24th October to 31th December 2012 in the Department of Internal Medicine RSUDZA city of Banda Aceh. Knowledge is measured by the questionnaire. Uric acid levels were measured by looking at the lab results from the patient or patient's medical record.Results: The results showed as much as 80,7% of respondents were aged 19-60 years. Female respondents was 55,8%. Respondents who did not work was 34,6%. The majority of respondents have less knowledge level is 71,1% and the majority of respondents were hyperuricemia 75%.
