The observed parameters included yield, thickness, compressive strength analysis, crude fiber and organoleptic. The analysis results showed that sugar concentration and ammonium sulfate concentration significantly different to the yield, thickness, crude fiber, compressive strength and organoleptic. This research results showed that sugar and ammonium sulfate concentration influence significantly different to the thickness, crude fiber, compressive strength and organoleptic and not significantly different to the yield of nata de soya. The higher the sugar concentration and ammonium sulfate are used, the higher the yield, thickness, compressive strength, crude fiber produced. The best results obtained in the treatment of 10% sugar concentration and 0.7% ammonium sulfate. </text>

This research article reported the composting process of the empty fruit bunches. The effect of addition of white rot fungi (Phanerochaete Chrysosporium) as an activator on composting product was studied. Experiment results indicated that white rot fungi is a good activator to improve degradation process of the empty fruit bunch become an organic fertilizer. White rot fungi has capable to increase composting period become shorter in compare with original composting without addition of white rot fungi. The organic fertilizer product as regulation issued by the Standar Nasional Indonesia (NSI) can be achieved in duration of 3 months, while for original process without addition of white rot fungi longer degradation time is necessary.Keyword: Composting, empty fruit bunch, white rot fungi</text>

In the category of the very soft soil, peat soils have very low bearing capacity. One of the actions needed to improve the properties of peat soils are stabilization. In this study, high ash peat soil obtained from Desa Lambalek, Aceh Jaya and lime stabilized with mixed variation of 4%, 8% and 12%. Tests were carried out referring to the ASTM method, consists of physical properties including moisture content, specific gravity, sieve analysis, ash and organic content, and testing of mechanical properties include compaction, CBR (California Bearing Ratio) and Swelling. The results showed the addition of lime 4% and 8%, resulting in a reduction CBR value of peat soil, but on a mixture of 12%, the CBR value increased to 176.51% for CBR Soaked and 139.70% for CBR Unsoaked and reduced 24.93% swelling value from initials conditions. Thus the effective peat soil stabilization at levels of 12% lime mixture.

<text>(The effect of molasses and lactic acid bacteria isolated from rumen fluid of PO cattle on napier grass silage quality)ABSTRACT. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of molasses as carbohydrate source and inoculums of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) incubated from PO cattle’s rumen fluid on the quality of Napier grass (pennisetum purpureum) silages. The research was conducted at Gemawang village Jambu District Semarang Regency. Feed analysis was carried out in Laboratory Biochemical Nutrition, Animal Feed Science, Animal Science Faculty, Gadjah Mada University. This study was assigned into Completely Randomized Design with 4 treatments and 3 replicated. The treatments were addition of molasses and LAB level into the Napier grass; 0, 1, 3 and 5% (w/w) and incubated for 30 days Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the significant effect was tested by Duncan ,s Multiple Range Test. The results showed that the addition of 1 – 5% molases significantly affected (P<0,05) lactic acid content, pH, and NH3 concentration. Increasing level of molases significantly (P<0,05) increased lactic acid content, decreased pH and NH3 concentration of Napier grass silage. However, among the treatment groups of 1, 3 and 5 % of molases was not significant (P<0,05) different on the lactic acid content, pH and NH3 concentration. Dry matter and organic matter content of Napier grass silage were not significantly (P<0,05) affected by treatments . </text>
