Karies gigi dapat dipengaruhi oleh beberapa faktor salah satunya disebabkan oleh konsentrasi fluor dalam air minum yang dikonsumsi. Kekurangan fluor dalam air minum dapat menyebabkan gigi mudah terkena karies. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui gambaran status karies pada anak usia 12-15 tahun yang mengkonsumsi air sumur dan atau air gunung di daerah Lhoknga Kabupaten Aceh Besar. Desain penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan menggunakan teknik total sampling, seluruh subjek diambil menjadi sampel penelitian yang berjumlah 83 murid. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dari tanggal 28 dan 29 September dengan melakukan pemeriksaan klinis pada subjek penelitian. Status karies diperiksa dengan menggunakan indeks DMF-T. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa anak usia 12-15 tahun yang mengkonsumsi air sumur dan atau air gunung memiliki status karies dengan nilai DMF-T 2,9 dan termasuk termasuk kategori status karies rendah. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XII SMA Negeri 1 Peudawa Kabupaten aceh Timur tahun ajaran 2014 pada siswa IPS-1 yang berjumlah 31 siswa. Karena populasi sedikit maka semua dijadikan sampel penelitian. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik angket dan dokumentasi. Pengolahan data menggunakan uji koefisien korelasi dan uji-t. Hasil analisis data diketahui bahwa nilai koefisien korelasi (r) adalah 0,011. Sedangkan pengujian hipotesis menggunakan uji-t, diketahui thitung lebih kecil dari nilai ttabel yaitu thitung 0,059, dan ttabeluntuk taraf signifikan 5% dengan derajat kebebasan (dk) =29 sehingga diperoleh ttabel = 1,69. Artinya hipotesis yang diajukan ditolak. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara disiplin dalam belajar dengan prestasi belajar geografisiswa kelas XII IPS di SMP Negeri 1 Peudawa Kabupaten Aceh timur. The five characteristics of CLT are: focus on communicative function; focus on meaningful tasks rather than on language forms such as grammar and vocabulary; efforts to make tasks and language relevant to a target group of learners through an analysis of genuine, realistic situation; the use of group activities; and the attempt to create a secure, nonthreatening atmosphere and an attempt to link classroom language learning with language activation outside the classroom. These five characteristics of CLT help students improve their speaking ability since they are always engage in communicative interactions with their classmates during the process of learning speaking. This research is aimed to find out how teachers apply the five characteristics of CLT in teaching speaking; find out if teachers have difficulties in using CLT.This study employs a qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were three English teachers who teach speaking at classes XI IPA 1, XI IPA 2 and XI IPA 5. The data were collected through observation, interviews and documentation. The collected data were analyzed by using qualitative data analysis approach. The analysis was conducted through three steps; data reduction, data display and conclusion.The result of this study shows that the English teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Peureulak have applied the five characteristics of CLT. However, they have not used all activities such as group work and role plays in speaking activities. Based on an observation during the process of teaching and learning speaking, the teachers were focusing on communicative function, focusing on meaningful tasks rather than language forms such as grammar and vocabulary, making tasks and language relevant to a target group of learners, using pair work activities and creating a non-threatening atmosphere. On the other hand, not all of the teachers provided enough opportunities for the students to engage in classroom speaking activities and the students were not encouraged to practice speaking outside the classroom. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah tiga guru Bahasa Inggris yang mengajar di kelas XI IPA 1, XI IPA 2 dan XI IPA 5. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis dengan menggunakan pendekatan analisis data kualitatif. Analisis data dilakukan dengan tiga langkah yaitu reduksi data, penyajian data dan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru SMA Negeri 1 Peureulak sudah menerapkan karakteristik Pengajaran Bahasa secara Komunikatif. Namun demikian, mereka tidak menggunakan semua kegiatan seperti kerja kelompok dan bermain peran dalam aktivitas berbicara. Berdasarkan observasi selama proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran speaking, semua guru sudah fokus pada fungsi komunikatif, fokus pada tugas-tugas yang melibatkan siswa berinteraksi menggunakan Bahasa Inggris dari pada tata bahasa dan kosa kata, memberikan tugas-tugas yang sesuai dengan kemampuan siswa, menyuruh siswa melatih speaking secara berpasangan dan menciptakan suasana yang nyaman bagi siswa untuk berlatih speaking. Di sisi lain, tidak semua guru memberikan kesempatan yang cukup kepada siswa untuk berinteraksi dengan kawan-kawan sekelas dalam mempraktekkan tugas-tugas speaking di ruang kelas dan siswa tidak diberikan dorongan untuk melatih percakapan diluar ruang kelas. Oleh karena itu, siswa hanya berlatih berbicara selama pelajaran speaking.
