<text>The kinetics and mechanism of cadmium and zinc adsorption on palm kernel shell based activated carbons (PKSAC) have been studied. A series of batch laboratory studies were conducted in order to investigate the suitability of palm kernel shell based activated carbon (PKSAC) for the removal of cadmium (cadmium ions) and zinc (zinc ions) from their aqueous solutions. All batch experiments were carried out at pH 7.0 and a constant temperature of 30+-1°C using an incubator shaker that operated at 150 rpm. The kinetics investigated includes the pseudo first order, the pseudo-second order and the intraparticle diffusion models. The pseudo-second order model correlate excellently the experimental data, suggesting that chemisorption processes could be the rate-limiting step. Keywords: adsorption, cadmium, kinetics, palm kernel shell, zinc</text>

<text>Particle size reduction of zeolite to the nanometer scale leads to substantial changes in the properties of zeolite which make them promising materials for many applications including adsorption. Zeolite silicate-1 Nanocrystal was synthesized at temperatures of 800C, 1200C and 1500C by adding tetrapropylammonium hydroxide (TPAOH) into silica sources. The synthesis mixtures are 2TPAOH: 0.15Na2O: 4.5Si: 382H2O: 51EtOH (TEOS as silica source) and 2TPAOH: 0.15Na2O: 6SiO2: 532H2O: 51EtOH (Ludox LS as silica source). X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the synthesised products. The nanosilicate-1 particle size were obtained in range of 119 nm – 1678 nm. This research also confirmed that TEOS can make smaller particle size up to 36.43 % than Ludox LS due to an average hydrodynamic diameter of 4 nm of TEOS smaller than Ludox LS of 15-19 nm. In the heavy metal adsorption study, it was found that the adsorption capacity indicated by Qmax (Langmuir) and KF (Freundlic) shows higher Pb2+ adsorption than Cr3+. The maximum adsorption capacities of Pb and Cr at 300C are 131.58 mg/g and 129.87 mg/g, respectively. Further, it can also be seen that the KL values in the Langmuir isotherm indicate the higher selectivity of Pb on silicate-1 zeolite than Cr.Keywords :Adsorption capacity, Heavy metal, Isotherm, Silicate-1 nanocrystal</text>

<text>Lead (Pb) and chromium (Cr) are common groundwater contaminants at industrial installation. Zeolites are widely use as an adsorbent in heavy metal removal. Nanocrystalline zeolite Y has been synthesised from a clear solution at 1500C by using aluminum isopropoxide (Al(OiPr)3 and Ludox LS as alumina and silica source, tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAOH) and tetramethyl ammonium bromide (TMABr) as first and second organic template, respectively. The products were characterised by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to identify the structure and particle sizes. After 48 hours synthesis time, nanocrystalline zeolite Y samples were obtained with approximately average particle sizes of 268 and 119 nm for one and two organic templates, respectively. The synthesized nanocrystalline zeolite Y was applied for some metal adsorption including Pb(II) and Cr(III) and the results show that the nano crystal samples have good performance. The removal efficiency for Pb and Cr could be up to 88.97% depending on the initial concentration and temperature. The adsorption isotherms of Cr and Pb were determined from the Langmuir and Freundlich equations. The equilibrium sorption capacities (Qe) from the Langmuir equation were 270.27 mg/g and 204.08 mg/g at 300C for Pb and Cr, respectively. Kinetic adsorption analysis of nanozeolite Y shows that the pseudo second order kinetics would be better for fitting the dynamic adsorption of both Cr and Pb cations.Key words: adsorption isotherms, kinetic adsorption analysis, nanocrystalline zeolite Y</text>

<text>Two types of catalysts based on Indonesia Natural Zeolite (INZ) and Australia Natural Zeolite (ANZ) were prepared by impregnation of 5 % of active metal cobalt. The synthesized catalysts were calcined in air at 5500C for 6 hours. The catalysts were then used to degrade phenol concentration in heterogeneous catalytic oxidation with the presence of oxone as peroxymonosulphate source. The catalysts were also characterized by several techniques such as SEM, EDS and N2 adsorption. It was found that Co-INZ and Co-ANZ are effective catalyst in activation of peroxymonosulphate to produce sulphate radicals to degrade phenol concentration. In reaction test of 5 hours, with condition of 25 ppm phenol, 0.2 g catalyst loading, 1 gram oxone, 250C and stirring speed of 400 rpm, Co-INZ and Co-ANZ could reduce phenol up to 100% and 70% respectively. Further, several parameters such as amount of catalyst loading, phenol concentration, oxidant concentration and temperature are found as key factors in phenol degradation. Moreover, based on the trend of phenol degradation following by kinetic study, it was proved that the pseudo first order kinetics would fit to phenol oxidation with the rate constants of 0.0106 and for 0.0033 Co-INZ and Co-ANZ respevtively</text>
