Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) Peningkatan hasil belajar geografi; (2) Aktivitas guru dan siswa dalam pembelajaran geografi; (3) Keterampilan guru dalam mengelola pembelajaran geografi; dan (4) Respon siswa terhadap pelaksanaan pembelajaran model berkirim salam dan soal. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII-1 SMP Negeri 5 Banda Aceh yang berjumlah 22 siswa. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan tes, lembar pengamatan aktivitas guru dan siswa, lembar pengamatan keterampilan guru mengelola pembelajaran, dan angket respon siswa. Analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif persentase. Hasil penelitian diperoleh dengan (1) Persentase ketuntasan secara individual meningkat siklus I dari 22 siswa ada 7 siswa yang belum tuntas dan siklus II dari 22 siswa 3 siswa yang belum tuntas, persentase ketuntasan klasikal meningkat dari 70% menjadi 90%; (2) Aktivitas guru yang dominan adalah menyuruh siswa menuliskan beberapa pertanyaanan dan membuat jawaban serta membuat yel-yel yang akan dikirimkan ke kelompok lain 18,75% kategorinya kurang baik dan siklus II sebesar 18,75% kategorinya baik. Aktivitas siswa yang dominan membuat soal dan jawaban serta yel-yel yang akan dikirim ke kelompok lain, pada siklus I sebesar 18% kategorinya kurang baik dan siklus II sebesar 19,5% kategorinya baik; (3) Keterampilan guru dalam mengelola pembelajaran pada siklus I skor rata-rata yang diperoleh adalah 2,56 dikategorikan sedang dan siklus II skor rata-rata yang diperoleh mencapai 3,28 dikategorikan baik; dan (4) Respon siswa terhadap penerapan model pembelajaran berkirim salam dan soal dikatakan baik dimana; dapat memperjelas pemahaman siswa terhadap materi kehidupan sosial manusia dengan persentase rata-rata 95 persen, minat untuk mengikuti pembelajaran selanjutnya sangat besar dengan persentase rata-rata 95 persen, kejelasan bahasa yang digunakan guru dengan persentase rata-rata 93 persen, merasa baru dengan komponen pembelajaran dengan persentase 92 persen, merasa senang dengan komponen pembelajaran dengan pesentase rata-rata 86 persen. Method of the research is a Classroom Action Research  (CAR), consisting of three cycles. The data were collected using a test, an observation, and an interview. The result of the students’ concept understanding test was processed statistically using “t-Test”. The improvement of student’s understanding was corelated with Pearson Correlation Technique, while the interview and observation were described, then concluded. The result of data analysis indicate that the model of CLIS for universe and earth concept can improve the mastery of concept. In the first cycle action, it is seen that the acquirement of t0 was 9.069; in the second cycle the t value was 4.054; and in the third cycle it was 9.442; which is bigger than tt of only 2.025. It indicates that CLIS study method has improved the students’ concept understanding in every cycle. The correlation result of the first cycle indicates that the value of r is  - 0.273; in the second cycle, the value of r was equal to 0.222. While in the third cycle, the value of r is 0.000. It indicates that the CLIS model study does not influence the improvement of the students’ academic attitude. This study model requires much longer time than study method usually used by the teacher, but the students are happy to study with CLIS study model. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukandengan cara tes tertulis untuk mengetahui hasil belajar siswa, lembar observasi untukmenilai aktivitas siswa, angket bertujuan untuk mengetahui tanggapan siswaterhadap penerapan model pembelajatan CTL, berdasarkan hasil nilai tes objektifyang diberikan setelah pembelajaran berakhir, diketahui ketuntasan hasil belajarsiswa pada pertemuan I mencapai 28,5% dan pada pertemuan II mencapai 91,30%.Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa hasil belajar siswa mencapai ketuntasan secara klasikal.Hasil tanggapan siswa berdasarkan angket menunjukkan persentase aktivitas yangbaik dengan persentase 60,86. Hasil observasi aktivitas siswa dengan menggunakanlembar observasi menunjukkan persentase aktivitas yang sangat baik, yaitu padapertemuan I mencapai 90,97% dan pada pertemuan II mencapai 92,36%. Hasil observasi aktivitas siswa pada pertemuan pertama 72,00% dan pertemuan kedua menjadi 95,00%. Hasil observasi sikap pada pertemuan pertama 73,75% dan pertemuan kedua menjadi 94,75%. Hasil observasi keterampilan pada pertemuan pertama 62,73% dan pertemuan kedua menjadi 75,00%.
