Solar collector is a device that collects solar energy and converts it into thermal energy and redirects the energy back into the fluid. Three variations of barrier angle were prepared in order to optimize the absorption of solar energy in a collector. Multiple pass turn were utilized to maximize the heat absorption. The size of the collector is 250 cm × 85 cm. Each side of absober box is coated with aluminum of 10 mm thick. Iron sand is used as absorber with thickness of 6 m. The collector box is tilted with 15° angle. Measurements were carried out for each multiple pass turn angle ; 130°, 180° and 90°. The tests were carried out in an open field in front of the Faculty of Engineering, Syiah Kuala University. The results show that temperature tends to be similar for all three variations of barrier angle. For the barrier angle of 130°, the highest temperature achieved was 93.3°C during 12:00 to 13:00 pm. The highest temperature achieved for the other two variations are 91.2°C for the barrier angle of 90° and 90.2°C for the barrier angle of 180°.</text>

<text>ABSTRACT. Farming is a plot of land or a part of the earth's surface where the farmers and their families to grow crops or raise livestock. A farmer faced with the enigma to determining the competition of activity in optimizing farming activities. The research was done in Lam Seunong village, Kecamatan Kota Baro, Aceh Besar, the object of research is the farmers who worked in rice, mustard and lettuce land farm. The purpose of this research was to know optimal cropping pattern for mustard and lettuce farming in rice production areas in an effort to increase the optimize income of farmers. The research using purposive sampling techniques with particular sampling, analytical methods using linear programming optimization. The results showed the optimal cropping pattern in the local rice production area is rice and mustard greens in the first season and lettuce in the second season that will obtain maximum revenue of Rp. 76,568,940.00 per period of the rice planting season. With an area of arable land each season is 0.3 hectare for rice in the first season, 0.26 hectare for mustard in the first season, and 0.26 hectare for lettuce second season.</text>

The effect of ratio of ginger to solvent (ethanol, X1), extraction temperature (X2), and extraction duration (X3) are studied on the yield of oleoresin. Response surface design method with Central Composite Design (CCD) was used to obtain a mathematical model which describes the relationship between the yield of ginger oleoresin and influencing variables. The experimental results indicate that the optimum condition of extraction which yield of oleoresin of 11.026% was found at ratio of ginger to ethanol (X1) of 1:4.68 gr.ml-1, extraction temperature (X2) of 420 OC, and extraction duration (X3) of 79 minutes. Keywords: extraction, response surface method, ginger oleoresin, ultrasonic</text>

<text>Activated carbon can be manufactured from a variety source materials containing element carbon. Dregs of coffee grounds is one of abundant and promising activated carbon raw materials. This study was conducted to assess optimization process of activated carbon production from dregs of coffee grounds by using ZnCl2 as an activator. The optimization process is performed by using Response Surface Method to optimize factors that affected quality of the activated carbon using Box-Behnken design. The factors used were carbonation temperature (T) with a level of 400 oC, 500 oC and 600 °C; concentration of ZnCl2 (K) with a level of 30%, 40%, 50%; and mass ratio of ZnCl2 to activated carbon with level of 2:1, 3:1 and 4:1. A second order regression model of iodine absorption of activated carbon was Y = 626,2 - 36,5T + 28,6K - 36,5R + 31,2T2 + 47,1K2 - 0,5R2 - 19,0TK + 15,9TR + 101,5KR. Results of optimization process showed that optimum iodine absorption of 799.659 mg/g was obtained at the following conditions, i.e. carbonation temperature of 400 oC, ZnCl2 concentration of 30% and mass ratio of ZnCl2 to activated carbon of 2:1.</text>

<text>This paper presents the results obtained from the application of both computational fluid dynamics (CFD) Fluent 6.3 and Design Expert codes to modelling and optimizing a gas-solid cyclone separator based upon its geometrical parameters. A pre-processor software GAMBIT was employed to set up the configuration, discretisation, and boundary conditions of the cyclone.  A commercial CFD code FLUENT 6.3 was employed to simulate the flow field and particle dynamics in the cyclone. The optimization study was performed under either a constant gas inlet flow rate of 0.075 m3/s or a constant inlet gas velocity of 18 m/s. A response surface methodology with three levels (-1, 0, and +1) was employed as the experimental design. Independent variables to be optimized include the ratio of inlet gas width to diameter of the cyclone, W/D, the ratio of conical length to diameter, Lc/D and the ratio outlet diameter to cyclone diameter De/D. The response variables of collection efficiency and pressure drop were correlated in the forms of quadratic polynomial equations. The simultaneous optimization of the response variables has been implemented using a desirability function (DF) approach, computed with the aid of Design Expert software.  The results of investigation showed that at constant flow rate, the following optimum ratios of W/D =0,28, Lc/D =1,5,  and De/D =0,52 were obtained to give a collection efficiency of 90% and a pressure drop of 155 Pa. At the constant inlet gas velocity, the following optimum ratios of W/D =0,25, Lc/D =1,5,  and De/D =0,57 were obtained to give a collection efficiency of 90% and a pressure drop of 190 Pa. This findings indicate that gas inlet treatment at either constant flow rate or constant inlet gas velocity does not produce significant difference on the collection efficiency, but does give significant influence on the pressure drop.</text>

<text>Due to increasing demand of petroleum and limited source of fossil fuel, it isneeded to explore and find source of a renewable energy. The biomass from agricultural residues, forest and farm waste has been known as a great source of energy and can be converted into biogas, bioethanol, biodiesel, etc. Reed which is abundant in Indonesia is one of potential sources of lignocellulose biomass that can be utilized as (Imperata cylindrica) a source of renewable energy such as bioethanol. The aim of this study was to optimize yield of glucose from reed using cellulose enzyme. Factors used in this research werepH and substrate particle size. Reed particle sizes were 80 and 100 mesh and pH of the solution were 4.2, 4.8 and 5.5. The results showedthat dried reedwith100 meshes in particle size which hydrolysed in enzyme solution with pH 5.5 at 37oC for 72 hours, producedthe highest yield of glucose in the amount of 80.2 mg/ml (8.02 %). When the incubation time was extended, glucose yield increased to 121.8 mg/ml (12.1%) at 96 hours and then decreased as the incubation time was extended further</text>

<text>Citric acid can be produced from pineapple waste by using fermentation process. This process is done in bubble column reactor with Aspergillus niger yeast. The objective of this research is to find the optimum conditions of initial pH and total sugar concentration. The optimization method used was response surface methodology. This research was carried out at a temperature of 30 oC, spore concentration of 1.23 x 109 spore/ml, total volume 2.0 liter, flow rate of air 58.07 cc/sec and a 5% antifoam concentration. The fermentation process lasted 7 days and the citric acid concentration was analyzed by High Pressure Liquid Cromatography (HPLC) method. Statistica 6 software was used for the data treatment. The mathematical model for the optimization citric acid fermentation in bubble column reactor is Y = 54.507 + 2.9851X - 8.987X12 - 2.581X2 - 15.446X22 - 7.989X1X2 The parameter of Y is citric acid yield, X1 is a coding initial pH and X2 is a coding total sugar concentration. The results has given an initial pH optimum 3.61 and total sugar concentration 19,285% w/v with optimum an yield of 55.03 % .Keywords: Bubble column bioreactor, Citric acid fermentation, Initial pH, Total sugar concentration, Response surface methodology</text>

The system exploits tested were tapping system and intervals giving stimulant. The experiment was conducted at the experimental farm of Rubber Research Institute of the White River, covering applications in the treatment field and Physiology Laboratory analysis in the White River Rubber Research Institute, North Sumatera. Thestudytook place fromOktober 2012 toDesember 2012.This researchconducted with randomized block design with two treatments and three replications. Tappingsystem (S) consists of 5 levelsie: S0 = 1/2s d/3.ET 2.5% (control); S1 = 1/4S d / 3.ET 2.5%; S2 = 1/4S d/3.ET 2.5% + 1/2Sd/3; S3 = 1/2s d/3.ET 2.5%; S4 = 1/2s d / 3. ET.2.5% + 1/2Sd/3 and intervalgivingstimulants (W) consists of 2 levelsie W1 = 1 time a month; W2 = 2 times a month.Thesystem of exploitation affect plant physiological conditions, which increase the dryrubbercontent, thecontent of sucrose, lowerthiolcontentresults, and increasethecontent of organic phosphate, but the physiological condition of the plant is still quite normal and does not cause stress in plants. Tapping system that produces the highest production is S4 (1/2s + 1/2Sd/3 d/3.ET.2.5%) and lowest in S1 (1/4S d/3.ET 2.5%). Highest dry rubber content is S4 (1/2s + 1/2Sd/3 d/3.ET.2.5%) and lowest in S1 (1/4S d/3.ET 2.5%.);Highestthiollevels S1 (1/4S d/3.ET 2.5%.) and lowest in S4 (1/2s + 1/2Sd/3 d/3.ET.2.5%); levels of sucrose and organic phosphate levels are highest S4 (1 / 2S + 1/2Sd/3 d/3.ET.2.5%) and lowest in S1 (1/4S d/3.ET 2.5%.). Intervals giving stimulants that produce the highest production is W2 (2 times a month) and lowest in W1 (1 time a month). Highest dry rubber content is W2 (2 times a month) and lowest in W1 (1 time a month); highestlevels of thiolis W1 (1 time a month) and lowest in W2 (2 times a month); levels of sucrose and the highest levels of organic phosphate is W2 (2 times a month) and lowest in W1 (1time a month).</text>
