Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini bagaimana tingkat kemampuan siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh dalam menyusun teks hasil observasi. Yang bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat kemampuan siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh dalam menyusun teks hasil observasi. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah hasil kerja siswa. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh yang berdasarkan pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015, berjumlah 167 orang. Sampel dietapkan 25 orang dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampel. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik tes. Penelitian ini diolah secara deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan teknik penganalisisan statistik dengan cara mencari niali rata-rata (mean). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa nilai rata-rata siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh dalam menyusun teks hasil observasi adalah 81. Berdasarkan klasifikasi nilai yang ditetapkan Depdiknas tahun 2006, angka tersebut berada dalam kategori baik. Berdasarkan isi kemampuan siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh adalah 82, berdasarkan struktur teks kemampuan siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh adalah 81, berdasarkan kosakata kemampuan siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh adalah 78, berdasarkan penggunaan bahasa kemampuan siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh adalah 81, berdasarkan mekanik kemampuan siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Banda Aceh adalah 81. Hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa yang kemampuannya berada pada kategori sangat baik berjumlah 14 orang (56%), kategori baik berjumlah 7 orang (28%), kategori cukup berjumlah 3 orang (12%), dan kategori kurang berjumlah 1 orang (4%).
