The participants for  this study were 44 first graders chosen by random sampling. The research method used was quantitative as the data was analyzed with a statistical procedure. The data was  obtained  from written tests  for  a descriptive text entitled “My school” of 120-140 word length. This study found that three out of four sentence errors in the students’ writing were fragmented sentences whilst nearly a quarter of the errors were run-on or comma splice sentences. There were only a few  choppy sentence  errors and no  stringy sentence  errors. The data revealed five  types  of fragmented  sentences:  these were  the absence of  a  subject, the absence of  a  verb, the absence of  both  a  subject and  a  verb, the absence of  a verb in a dependent clause, and the absence of an independent clause. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan efek antibakteri ekstrak kulit buah delima (Granati fructus cortex) dalam menghambat Streptococcus mutans. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimental laboratoris dengan desain posttest-only control. Uji daya hambat ini menggunakan metode difusi agar pada media MHA. Analisis statistik menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak kulit buah delima dalam berbagai konsentrasi memiliki efek antibakteri, dimana ekstrak kulit buah delima 30% memiliki rata-rata zona hambat paling besar (15.4 mm), semakin tinggi konsentrasi ekstrak kulit buah delima maka semakin besar zona hambat yang terbentuk. Hasil uji ini juga menunjukkan adanya perbedaan rata-rata zona hambat dalam berbagai konsentrasi. Disimpulkan bahwa (Granati fructus cortex) memiliki efek antibakteri terhadap pertumbuhan Streptococcus mutans. Penelitian dilaksanakan dari bulan Maret sampai bulan September 2013, dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar, aktivitas dan tanggapan siswa terhadap penggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe talking stick pada materi minyak bumi. Populasi pada penelitian ini yaitu seluruh siswa kelas X di SMAN 5 Banda Aceh, sampel yaitu siswa kelas X-9 sebagai kelas eksperimen berjumlah 23 siswa, dan kelas X-7 sebagai kelas kontrol berjumlah 24 siswa. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Analisis data menggunakan persentase untuk hasil belajar, aktifitas siswa, dan angket tanggapan siswa sedangkan uji-t untuk melihat perbedaan antara kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Hasil penelitian diperoleh tidak terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar yang signifikan dari kedua kelas berdasarkan uji t, dimana thit diperoleh 1,20 dan ttab = 2,01 pada taraf signifikan 0,05% dengan db = 48 (ttab = 2,01). Aktivitas siswa dengan penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe talking stick mengalami peningkatan dari pertemuan I ke pertemuan II dengan persentase berturut-turut 82,69% dan 88,46% , sedangkan aktivitas siswa dengan tidak menerapkan talking stick, menurun dari pertemuan I ke pertemuan II berturut-turut adalah 77,08% dan 72,91%. Respon positif siswa terhadap penggunaan model talking stick adalah sebesar 84,6% menunjukkan siswa termotivasi belajar dengan menerapkan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe talking stick. Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan, tidak terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar siswa antara penggunaan model talking stick dan tidak menggunakan model talking stick. Aktivitas siswa meningkat melalui penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe talking stick, dengan siswa memberikan tanggapan positif.
