Over recent decades, a growing numbers of literatures have validated the application of bacteriophages for therapy against antibiotic-resistance bacteria. With rapid dissemination of these resistant bacteria pathogens, the interest in alternative remedies to antibiotics using bacteriophages therapy is gaining new ground. Based on the recent studies of bacteriophage applications against bacterial infections in countries where this alternative therapy has been approved, many scientists and companies believed that phages have the ability to treat and prevent diseases caused by bacteria. Malaysia, being well known as one of the mega diverse countries could promise the potential new phages that could be applied in phage therapy. The overall objectives of this research including isolation and purification of potentially new phages from environments, characterization of the isolated phages based on morphological study, physicochemical attributes, genomic and proteomic analysis. Lastly, the isolated phages would be developed into phage therapy against bacterial infection through in vitro and in vivo test. Preliminary results presented here, show a total of four phages were successfully isolated from human waste. Two of the phages were successfully isolated infecting Proteus mirabilis that caused urinary tract infection in human whereas another two phages infecting Escherichia coli 0157:H7 (caused food-borne diseases) and Escherichia coli ATCC 13706, respectively. Penelitian ini bertujuan untukmengidentifikasi bakteri udara yang terdapat dalam ruangan di gedung FKIP Unsyiah dan mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan sistem HVAC terhadap jenis bakteri udara. Sistem HVAC yang dijadikan sampel adalah AC dan kipas angin. Pengambilan sampelbakteri dilakukan di empat ruangan, dua ruang yang menggunakan AC dan dua ruang yang menggunakan kipas angin. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalahdeskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dalam lima tahap yaitu pengambilan sampelbakteri, identifikasi morfologi koloni, isolasi bakteri, pengamatan morfologi sel bakteri, dan uji biokimia. Hasil identifikasi bakteri diperoleh lima jenis bakteri. Penelitian ini mengangkat masalah bagaimanakah hasil belajar siswa, strategi siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal, kemampuan guru dalam mengelola pembelajaran, dan respon siswa mengenai penerapan RME pada soal pemecahan masalah keliling dan luas persegi panjang dan persegi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hasil belajar siswa, strategi siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal, kemampuan guru dalam mengelola pembelajaran, dan respon siswa mengenai soal pemecahan masalah keliling dan luas persegi panjang dan persegi menggunakan RME. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII-5 SMP Negeri 6 RSBI Banda Aceh sebanyak 28 siswa. Materi yang diajarkan adalah keliling dan luas persegi panjang dan persegi. Data diperoleh dari post test, lembar observasi kemampuan guru, dan angket respon siswa. Kemudian data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan pre-experimental dengan desain one-shot case study. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil belajar belum tuntas, strategi siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal pemecahan masalah ada 4 (draw a picture, look for a pattern, look for a similar problem, dan guess and check), kemampuan guru mengelola pembelajaran termasuk dalam kategori baik dan sangat baik, dan respon siswa sesuai untuk setiap aspek yang direspon, yaitu soal pemecahan masalah tergolong sulit namun siswa berminat untuk menyelesaikannya. Buah salak (Salacca edulis) varietas salak pondoh super yangberusia tiga bulan setelah perbungaan diperoleh dari perkebunan salak di Sabang.Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah eksperimen laboratorium jeniskuantitatif menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang dibagi dalam 7kelompok, yaitu 5 kelompok perlakuan (ekstrak etanol buah salak terhadap bakteri E.coli) dan 2 kelompok kontrol menggunakan aquades dan streptomisin. Analisis datadilakukan menggunakan Anova (analyses of variance) kemudian dilanjutkan denganuji Jarak Nyata Terdekat Duncan (JNTD) pada taraf kepercayaan 0,05%, dan terdapatperbedaan yang nyata antar perlakuan. Hasil uji antimikroba menunjukkan ekstrakbuah salak mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri E. coli. Hasil uji fitokimiamenunjukkan bahwa ekstrak buah salak mengandung berbagai senyawa aktif sepertitanin, flavonoid, dan alkaloid. Zona hambat tertinggi diperoleh pada konsentrasi100%, yaitu rata-rata berdiameter 18,783 mm. Tetapi zona hambat yang terbentukpada kontrol positif lebih besar, yaitu rata-rata berdiameter 31,367 mm.
