Different characteristics of subtype of the virus and its interaction with host can affect the severity of the disease. This study was aimed to analyze HIV-1 genotypes circulating in HIV/AIDS patients from the East Java region descriptively. Information from this research was expected to complement the data of mocular epidemiology of HIV in Indonesia.  This study used blood plasma from patients who had been tested to be HIV positive who were seeking treatment or are reffered to the Intermediate Care Unit of Infectious Disease (UPIPI) Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya from various area representing the East Java regions. Plasma was separated from blood samples by centrifugation for use in the the molecular biology examination including RNA extraction, nested PCR using specific primer for HIV gp120 env gene region, DNA purifying, DNA sequencing, and homology and phylogenetic analysis. Based on the nucleotide sequence of the HIV gp120 env gene, it was found that the most dominant genotypes in East Java belonged to one group of Circulating Recombinant Form (CRF), namely CRF01_AE and CRF3x_01B, which has been also found in Southeast Asia. In the phylogenetic tree, most of HIV samples (30 samples) were in the same branch with CRF01_AE and CRF3x_01B, except one sample (HIV40) was in the same branch with subtype B. Therefore, it is necessary to test the antidiabetic activity using ethanol extract of the tekelan leaves in male mice induced by alloxan. Mice were induced intravenously by alloxan dose of 55 mg/kg bw. After 7 days, mice were diabetic ( KGD > 200 mg/dL ) and were grouped into 6 groups: negative control group (only treated with CMC - Na) , positive control group (glibenclamide 0.45 mg/kg bw) and the 4 other groups were given ethanol extract of Tekelan leaves at doses of 5 , 25 , 125 and 250 mg/kg bw. Dosage administered for 28 days and blood glucose levels was checked every 7 days using a glucotest. Data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variation at 95% confidence level. Ethanol extract of tekelan’s leaves  at doses of 5 , 25 , 125 and 250 mg/kg bw can lower blood levels  from day 7 to day 28 and was significantly different compared to the negative control group ( p < 0.05). Ethanol extract of tekelan’s leaves at doses of 5 , 25 , 125 and 250 mg/kg bw showed antidiabetic activity in alloxan-induced mice. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) faktorial 4x2 dengan 8 kombinasi perlakuan sebanyak 3 ulangan. Perlakuan terdiri atas 2 faktor yaitu dosis dan fase siklus awal pemberian. Dosis buah naga terdiri atas: 0 mg/kg bb (D0), 7 mg/kg bb (D1), 14 mg/kg bb (D2), dan 21 mg/kg bb (D3). Pemberian perlakuan buah naga dilakukan pada fase estrus dan metestrus. Parameter yang diamati adalah lama siklus estrus dan fase yang mengalami perpanjangan waktu. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis dengan analisis varian dan dilanjutkan dengan Uji Tukey. Hasil penelitian menunjukan dosis buah naga berpengaruh nyata terhadap lama siklus estrus. Pemberian buah naga pada dosis 14 mg/kg bb dan 21 mg/kg bb dapat memperpanjang lama siklus estrus masing-masing menjadi 6 dan 6,5 hari. Pemberian buah naga pada fase estrus maupun metestrus hanya menunjukan perpanjangan waktu pada fase estrus. Kata kunci : Hylocereus costaricensis, siklus estrus, dan fase estrus.ABSTRACTThis research aimed to know the effect of dragon fruit (Hylocereus costaricensis) on the estrous cycle of mice (Mus musculus). The experimental method with Completely Randomized Design. Was applied of the reseach counsisted of 4x2 treatment combination was repeated in three times. The factors were dragon doses and administration of initial phase cycle. Dragon fruit doses were of: 0 mg/kg bw (D0), 7 mg/kg bw (D1), 14 mg/kg bw (D2), and 21 mg/kg bw (D3). Initial phase cycle were estrous and metestrous. Parameters measured was long of estrous cycles and phase in extended time. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance followed by Tukey Test. The results showed significant dose of dragon fruit on a long estrous cycle. Granting dragon fruit at a respectively to 6 and 6,5 days.
