Reverse osmosis (RO) and multi-stage flash (MSF) cost more than potable water produced from fresh water resources. Therefore, this research investigates a high-efficiency mechanical vapor-compression distillation system that employs an improved water flow arrangement. The incoming salt concentration was 0.15% salt for brackish water and 3.5% salt for seawater, whereas the outgoing salt concentration was 1.5% and 7%, respectively. Distillation was performed at 439 K and 722 kPa for both brackish water feed and seawater feed. Water costs of the various conditions were calculated for brackish water and seawater feeds using optimum conditions considered as 25 and 20 stages, respectively. For brackish water at a temperature difference of 0.96 K, the energy requirement is 2.0 kWh/m3. At this condition, the estimated water cost is $0.39/m3 achieved with 10,000,000 gal/day distillate, 30-year bond, 5% interest rate, and $0.05/kWh electricity. For seawater at a temperature difference of 0.44 K, the energy requirement is 3.97 kWh/m3 and the estimated water cost is $0.61/m3. Greater efficiency of the vapor compression system is achieved by connecting multiple evaporators in series, rather than the traditional parallel arrangement. The efficiency results from the gradual increase of salinity in each stage of the series arrangement in comparison to parallel. It also includes some others factors in determining economic growth disparity such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, the concentration of economic activity areas, Human Development Index (HDI), the labour productivity of the region, the allocation of public investment as well as the accessibility among regions in the Aceh Province. To capture the goals of this study, it uses panel data during the period 2000 to 2010 consisting of 23 districts/cities of Aceh Province. The results show that the potential conditions for convergence because the dominant factor affecting the disparity without entering variable cumulative effect, the concentration of economic activity among regions have positive and negatively affected HDI. By entering variable cumulative effects, it turns HDI to have a negative effect, while the cumulative effect of the growth of inter-regional and the GDP per capita were positive. Thus, it can be said that the economic disparity among regions has the potential for convergence if and only if there is a policy intervention by the government in improving the quality of education, health, and consumer purchasing power to reduce the disparity. Cengkeh merupakan tanaman herbal yang dapat menjadi alternatif terapi kandidiasis karena kandungan minyak atsiri dan tanin yang terkandung di dalamnya. Penelitian yang bersifat eksperimental laboratoris ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengkaji efek antifungal ekstrak bunga cengkeh dengan metode soxhletasi terhadap pertumbuhan C. albicans. Pada penelitian ini digunakan metode difusi cakram. Hasil analisis ANAVA menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak bunga cengkeh berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan C. albicans dan dari hasil uji Duncan menunjukkan bahwa secara umum ada perbedaan konsentrasi kecuali konsentrasi 50 % dan 60 % karena distribusi inokulum yang tidak merata pada media SDA. Konsentrasi hambat minimum terjadi pada konsentrasi 10 % yaitu 19,6 mm. Adanya daya hambat ini terjadi karena kandungan kimia dalam cengkeh dapat tersari lebih banyak dengan metode soxhletasi. Adsorption process of the dye into the cavities of the TiO2 layer was conducted by electrophoresis technique. As results, two DSSCs prepared by the slip casting and electrophoresis methods were successfully realized and tested. In case of DSSC based on electrophoresis method, XRD results show the appearance of MgO on TiO2 layer, which is probably caused by the addition of salt Mg(NO3)2 in the electrophoresis solution. Therefore, electrophoresis condition without the addition of salt needs to be investigated in the next research. It is found that the electrophoresis method can be used in the process of dye adsorption into the TiO2 layer. The electrophoresis with larger voltage results in the larger DSSC output. It is also seen that open circuit voltage for the slip casting-based DSSC is found to be greater than that for the electrophoresis-based one. This may be due to the larger size of the pores in TiO2 layer for the slip casting process compared to that for the electrophoresis process. Jintan Hitam (Nigella sativa) merupakan salah satu tanaman herbal yang memiliki potensi antibakteri karena kandungannya berupa alkaloid, saponin, tanin, flavonoid, kuinon, fitosteroid, dan terpenoid. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat efek antibakteri Nigella sativa terhadap A. actinomycetemcomitans. Penelitian yang bersifat eksperimental laboratoris ini menggunakan isolat klinis A. actinomycetemcomitans yang diperoleh dari pasien yang didiagnosis mengalami periodontitis agresif generalisata (PAG) di Rumah Sakit Gigi dan Mulut Universitas Syiah Kuala dan ekstrak Nigella sativa yang diperoleh dengan proses maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Uji efek antibakteri Nigella sativa terhadap A. actinomycetemcomitans dilakukan dengan metode Standard Plate Count (SPC). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengurangan pertumbuhan A. actinomycetemcomitans yang dipapar dengan ekstrak Nigella sativa konsentrasi 25%, 50%, 75%, dan 100%.
