The aims of this research were: to explore growth promoting endophitic bacteria isolated from root of red chilly planted at swampy land, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatera, and to study the ability of resulted isolates to promote growth of red chilly by bioassay evaluation; and to evaluate the ability of resulted isolates to produce IAA in vitro. Different stage of red chilly as sources of endophitic bacteria samples were collected from various locations of chilly farms in Ogan Ilir District, South Sumatera. The results of this research proved that endophitic bacteria derived from root red chilly tissues acted as growth promoting, neutral and growth inhibiting bacteria. First, second and third of selection resulted in 8, 6, and 3 consortia of endophitic bacteria, which consistently promoted the growth of red chilly. The amount of IAA resulted by S248 isolates of endophitic bacteria (3.36 mg kg-1) as significantly lower than those of S348 isolates (4.16 mg kg-1) and S830 isolates (3.93 mg kg-1). The amount of IAA resulted by S348 isolates did not significantly differ from that of S830 isolates. Endophitic bacteria identified from S348 isolates were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus cereus. The introduction of an invasive exotic plant species may indirectly influence herbivorous insects community. The objective of the research is to evaluate the implication of the existence of invasive species-water hyacinth on herbivorous insect community. The research was done in several freshwater ecosystems occupied by water hyacinth in West Java and DKI Jakarta, conducted during January 2004 to March 2006. Sweep net and yellow pan trap were used to collect the sample of insects. The result of the research showed that the existence of water hyacinth may indirectly resulted in decreasing of species richness and diversity of herbivorous insect. The observation also showed that the existence of water hyacinth may lead to homogenezation of the insect in aquatic vegetation. Kandungan lumpur (silt) dan lempung (clay) serta kandungan zat organik yang terdapat pada pasir laut Lhoknga cukup tinggi, hal ini tentunya akan dapat berpengaruh terhadap karakteristik kualitas campuran aspal beton yang dihasilkan, sehingga menarik minat untuk diteliti terhadap campuran aspal beton. Tujuan penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik terhadap variasi persentase pasir laut dan abu batu sebagai filler dalam campuran beton aspal aus AC-WC dengan bahan pengikat aspal Retona Blend 55 terhadap parameter Marshall. Pada penelitian ini dibuat benda uji dengan tiga variasi persentase pasir laut dalam campuran filler dengan akumulasi 7%. Pada variasi pertama dengan persentase 7% abu batu tanpa pasir laut, variasi kedua dengan 3% pasir laut dan 4% abu batu, untuk variasi ketiga 4% pasir laut dan 3% abu batu. Hasil penelitian didapatkan nilai kadar aspal optimum (KAO) adalah sebesar 5,57% pada 7% abu batu tanpa pasir laut, 5,75% pada persentase 3% pasir laut dan 5,81% pada persentase 4% pasir laut. Untuk nilai stabilitas yang didapatkan pada persentase pasir laut 0% sebesar 2148 kg, pada pasir laut 3% sebesar 1310 kg, dan pada pasir laut 4% didapatkan sebesar 1270 kg. Hasil ini menunjukan bahwa campuran yang menghasilkan nilai stabilitas yang terbaik adalah campuran yang tidak menggunakan pasir laut. untuk nilai durabilitas pada persentase pasir laut 0% mempunyai nilai durabilitas tertinggi dan memenuhi spesifikasi yaitu sebesar 92,77%, sedangkan persentase pasir laut 3% dan 4% tidak memenuhi spesifikasi yang telah disyaratkan dimana masing-masing didapatkan nilai durabilitas sebesar 88,74% dan 87,32% dimana untuk nilai durabilitas yang disyaratkan sebesar minimal 90%. Sebuah penelitian telah dilakukan untuk mengkaji pengaruh penggunaan konsentrasi  dan waktu aplikasi EM4 terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman cabai serta interaksinya terhadap produksi cabai pada tanah Entisol.  Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok Pola Faktorial dengan 3 kali ulangan. Faktor yang diteliti dalam penelitian ini adalah konsentrasi EM4 terdiri dari 3 taraf:  5, 10, dan 15 ml liter-1 air dan waktu aplikasi terdiri dari 3 taraf: 1 minggu, 2 minggu dan 3 minggu setelah tanam. Parameter yang diamati adalah tinggi tanaman dan diameter batang umur 15, 30 dan 45, serta berat buah selama tiga kali panen.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi EM4 berpengaruh nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman pada umur 45 HST.  Waktu aplikasi EM4 berpengaruh terhadap berat buah pada panen pertama, kedua, dan ketiga. Terdapat interaksi yang nyata antara konsentrasi dengan waktu aplikasi EM4 terhadap berat buah panen ketiga. The Effect of Concentration and Application Time of EM4 on Growth and Production of Chilli (Capsicum annum L.) in Entisol SoilABSTRACT. A research was conducted to study effect of concentration and application time of EM4 on growth and production of chilli in Entisol soil  and interaction between these factors. These experiment was performed using a randomized complete block design with three replications. There were two factors studied, namely concentration of EM4, consisting of 3 levels: 5, 10 and 15 ml L-1 of water. The second factor was  application time consisting of 3 levels:  1, 2, 3 week after planting. The observased  parameters are plant height at 15, 30 and 45 day after planting (DAP),  stem diameter at 15, 30 and 45 DAP and fruit weight for three times harvesting. The results showed that concentration of EM4   gave a significant effect on plant height at 45 DAP. Application time of EM4  gave significant effect on the first, second, and third time harvesting. There was significant interaction between concentration and application time of EM4 on fruit weight at the third time harvesting.
