<text>This study aims at finding out if the combination of the Inquiry (IQ), Learning Community (LC), and Total Physical Response (TPM) methods of teaching English will be able to improve the performance of the students’ English language skills. The study focuses on the students’ performance to verbally respond to simple instructions with acceptable actions within the context of the classroom and school environments and to give verbal expression for some simple acts: showing how to do something simple, gesticulating, and giving directions (as stated in KTSP or Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (School Based Curriculum or SBC) in Depdiknas, 2006). In terms of speaking skills, this study concentrates on the pronunciation and comprehension aspects. To achieve the goal of study, an experimental approach with one-group pre-test and post-test design was used. A number of 20 students out of a 58 student population were selected randomly as the sample for treatment. The results showed that the students’ comprehension and pronunciation improved significantly (from 34 to 60). In conclusion, the combination of IQ, LC and TPR of teaching did improve the ability of students to respond to simple instructions, and to express simple speech for giving simple directions, gesticulating, and showing how to do something simple. The hypothesis (Ha) of this research is then accepted as the combined teaching method generated greater ability in English than previous methods.</text>

<text>This study primarily aimed to compare the incidence of asthma between breastfed and bottle-fed children. And to determine if the demographic characteristics such as age, sex, ordinal position in the family and familial history of asthma affect the incidence of asthma as well. This study used Comparative-Survey Design through self-structured questionnaire given to the parents of the respondents who were the 3-7 year-old asthmatic children, selected through purposive sampling technique. The data gathered were thentabulated and analyzed using Chi-Square Method of Association. It was found out that most of the asthmatic respondents were between 5-7 years old which showed a high association between the age and the incidence of asthma. It implies that as the age increases, the incidence of asthma also increases. Results also showed that males are more likely to have high incidence of asthma than females. The incidence of asthma is likewise higher in eldest respondents than the middle or youngest. Moreover, there is a significant relationship between the familial history of asthma and its incidence. And finally, the feeding status of the respondents whether breastfed or bottle-fed during the first 6 months of life affects the incidence of asthma as the incidence is higher in bottle-fed than in breastfed respondents</text>

<text>The increase of current fossil fuel consumption has led to an increase of soot emission into atmosphere.  Accurate prediction of soot production and destruction in a combustion system is not only important for the purpose of the design of the system, but also vital for the operation of the combustor. Numerous soot models have been proposed to predict the soot production and destruction in a flame, categorized as empirical, semi-empirical and detailed soot models.  Although the detailed model represents the highest level of soot modelling, its use has been impaired by substantial requirement of resources of computer and time. Therefore, empirical and semi-empirical approaches still have their position in soot modelling of practical combustors. In this study, two soot models, single-step and two-step models are examined in the simulation of atmospheric turbulent non-premixed sooting flames. The soot models are compared and evaluated for their performance in predicting soot level in methane and ethylene non-premixed flames.  The commercial software Fluent 6.3 was used to perform the calculations of flow and mixing fields, combustion and soot. Standard k-ε and eddy dissipation models were selected as solvers for the representation of the turbulence and combustion, respectively.  The two soot models used in the study are available directly from the code for evaluation. The results show that the two-step model clearly performed far better than the single-step model in predicting the soot level in both methane and ethylene non-premixed flames. With a slight modification in the constant a of the soot formation equation, the two-step model was capable of producing prediction of soot level closer to experimental data.  In contrast, the single-soot model produced very poor results, leading to a significant under-prediction of soot levels in both flames.</text>

<text>Two frequently used methods in atmospheric dispersion modeling (ADMS and CFD) were compared in this study to predict pit retention within an open quarry. Conventional Gaussian plume models developed by CERC, ADMS 3 and ADMS 4, were used to predict the pit retention. This study mimicked Fluent CFD modeling of dust dispersion of a blasting event in Old Moor Quarry.  A single blast event that liberated a typical 25,000 tons of rock released 1,900 kg of Total Suspended Particle (TSP). The emission source geometry was defined as a three dimensional block volume source of 70 m normal to the face, 80 m in width and 20 m in height. It was also assumed the TSP liberated over one hour had an emission rate of 4.71x10-3 g/m3/s. The four particle sizes were defined as 2.5, 10, 30 and 75 m at mass fractions of 0.05, 0.45, 0.3 and 0.2 respectively and the particles were assumed have uniform limestone density of 2600 kg/m3. The results indicated that ADMS and model based on CFD indicates similar trend, that is, pit retention is proportional to distance from source to pit edge along wind direction and proportional to inverse quarry gradient. Keywords: dust dispersion, blasting, ADMS, CFD, pit retention</text>

Based onPermenkes 492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010 about the Regulations of Drinking WaterQuality, the content of Escherichia coli in a 100 ml sample is zero. The researchaimed to know the differences in the content of Escherichia coli in refill drinkingwater which were analized by Most probable number method and Membranefilter method. The research used observation method with descriptive analyticdesign which is carried out on 28 samples of drinking water refill depot in citycenter and downtown area. The data were analyzed by t-test and Anova usingSPSS version 16. The results showed that there is a significant difference betweenthe membrane filter method and most probable number method. Anova testshowed no significant difference between the downtown area and the city centereither to the monitored or unmonitored region. The average of Escherichia colicontent observed using membrane filter method was 4,46 CFU/100 ml samplewhile the content with most probable number method was 2,64 MPN Escherichiacoli/100 ml sample. Therefore the membrane filter method was more sensitivethan most probable number method in analizing the content of Escherichia coli inrefill drinking water.Keyword : Most Probable Number Method, Membrane Filter Method,Escherichia coli, Refill Drinking Water</text>
