Tim BKSDA Aceh dan FKH Unsyiah turun setelah memdapatkan laporan dari Polres Aceh Jaya bahwa ada beruang yang luka terjerat di kebun sawit melalui Call Center BKSDA pada pukul 10.00 WIB. Kapolres Aceh Jaya AKBP Eko Purwanto bahkan ikut turun bersama tim ke lapangan. Beruang yang terjerat berhasil diselamatkan dan setelah diperiksa, luka yang diderita tidak parah dan dari rekomendasi dokter hewan beruang tersebut layak dilepasliarkan kembali. Sebelum dilepasliarkan, beruang yang terjerat berjenis kelamin betina dengan perkiraan umur 6 tahun tersebut diberikan suntikan vitamin, antibiotik, dan obat kutu terlebih dahulu. Penelitian ini menggunakan 15 ekor ayam broiler yang dipelihara selama 34 hari. Ayam dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok perlakuan dan 3 kali ulangan. Kelompok kontrol negatif (A0) diberikan ransum standar, kelompok kontrol positif (A1), (A2), (A3) dan (A4) diberikan ransum standar dan diinfeksikan E. coli, kemudian ditambah ekstrak daun kemangi dengan kosentrasi 2,5%, 3,5% dan 4,5% untuk kelompok A2, A3 dan A4. Penginfeksian E. coli dilakukan secara intraperitoneum sebanyak 0,75 x 108 CFU ml-1 pada hari ke-15. Pemberian ekstrak daun kemangi diberikan sekali sehari mulai hari ke 7 sampai hari ke 34. Parameter yang diamati yaitu bobot dan gambaran histopatologi bursa Fabricius yang meliputi korteks, medula dan septa interlobularis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun kemangi tidak berpengaruh secara nyata (P>0,05) terhadap bobot bursa Fabricius. Gambaran secara histopatologi memberikan perubahan pada medula, korteks dan septa interlobularis, dimana kelompok A3 dan A4 memperlihatkan medula dan septa interlobularis mendekati kelompok normal (A0). Berdasarkan bobot dan gambaran histopatologi bursa Fabricius, kelompok A4 cenderung lebih baik dalam menghasilkan antibodi. Penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak daun kemangi menurunkan bobot bursa Fabricius dan pengecilan folikel limfoid yang ditandai dengan penurunan jumlah limfosit pada bursa Fabricius akibat diinfeksi E. coli.
