The EC of the UAE is one of these areas where farmers can’t utilize their farmland because of the increased salinity in irrigation water. This problem increased at the end of the last century as a result of the increased population and the expanding area of EC cities which put more pressure on the existing underground water resources. This paper highlights the main reasons behind this problem and examines both the government and the EC farmers' efforts to reduce the impact of water shortage on EC farming activities. Farmer’s points of views were collected through direct personal contacts to evaluate the nature and the volume of this problem. Future alternatives are suggested to help in reducing the effect of water shortages on the farming activities in the EC of the UAE. Low domestic water supply sanitation is considered as having an important contribution on the high frequency of waterborne diseases in the area. The study aims at recording water borne diseases and the water quality in the lowland area of Banyuasin District. This field research was conducted using a cross-sectional method. Total samples were 210 households in Telang which were observed during July through August 2011. Six water samples were measured for their physical and chemical properties, in addition to 1 water sample for bacteriological test. All respondents used river water for sanitary purposes and 41.4% of them also have dug wells. Those who used river water for sanitation, 68.5 % also consumed purified water for drinking purpose. All water samples are acidic (pH 5,68-6,19) and contain high Iron  (1-26,269 Mg/L). Water has yellowish color.  The major disease are diarrhea and skin diseases. In the lowland area with the estuarine ecosystem water quality and scarcity are serious problems. This in turn causes the high prevalent of waterborne diseases such as diarea. Low level of education and socio-economic status make it difficult for the local people to overcome these problems. Water samples were collected in October 2006 from dug wells of tsunami-affected areas. These were characterized for various physical and chemical parameters. Water quality in the selected areas has shown that the surface water was contaminated due to the tsunami. Total Dissolved Solid, Total Suspended Solid, Acidity, and salinity were high in the affected areas indicating saline water intrusion into surface water tables. Dug wells in the highly affected locations showed higher values of heavy metal ions like Mn, Pb, Cu, Fe, Zn, and Cu compared to the reference points. No ion Hg was found in all samples. The study area was divided into four locations that were the upstream of the tunnel (Location 1), bridge area at the south (Location 2), branch of the river area (Location 3), and the downstream of the two creeks. The study was done from April to June 2012. The method was survey and destructive sampling. The species of benthos was analysed descriptivelly and the diversity was analysed by diversity index formula (H). The results showed that there were 20 species of benthos found in the area and the index of diversity was between 1.996 and 2.652. In brief,  River Bale is still suitable as the habitat of aquatic organisms. Pendekatan perancangan melalui penerapan tema harmonisasi di dalam arsitektur dengan pendekatan arsitektur neo vernakular. Tema ini nantinya tidak hanya menganalisa unsur-unsur tradisi dan teknologi yang dapat diterapkan pada bangunan, namun juga akan menganalisa pendekatan desain untuk iklim tropis sebagai bentuk renspon pada lingkungan sekitar.
