<text>Cissus quadrangularis Linn (Cq) is a rambling shrub, characterized by a thick quadrangular fleshy stem and widely used to cope with joint pain, syphilis, venereal disease, and osteoporosis. This plant is containing calcium, phosphate and phyto-oestrogens. Hence the objective of the present study was to evaluate effect of the C. quadrangularis on bone recovery of rat. Blood was drawn once each 30 days to analyze serum calcium and phosphate concentration in blood. Rats were sacrificed to analyze bone histology. Os tibia fibula slice was stained with Hematoxylin Eosin (HE) method to observe osteoblast and osteoclast density, and Masson trichrome to observe trabeculae structure. ESP administration at longer period on treatment rats (OV-2) leads to more radiopaque bone mass than other groups including control group but osteoclast density is lower</text>

It had been done since March from to October 2010 in Microbiology Laboratory of Biology Departement FMIPA Unsyiah. Kanji pedah as the sample was taken from Meunasah Mesjid Syamtalira village, Aron Subs-district of North Aceh. This research used sample from variety storage time groups range 3-7 days; 5-7 months; 9-12 months; and 15-18 months. Data were analyzed in descriptive and compared with the quality standard from Directorate General of National Agency of Drug and Food Control (Dirjen BPOM RI). The result showed the entire sample had fungi with ranged 1.45-63.7x102. The amount of fungi exceeds the quality standard already established by the National Agency of Drug and Food Control No. 05018/KBPOM/2001: 50 colony/g. Also Aspergillus flavus was found with range from 3%-27% meanwhile Aspergillus niger was found with range from 21,1%-40,9%.</text>

<text>Eurycoma longifolia, known locally as ‘Tongkat Ali’ in Malaysia, is popularly sought out as herbal remedy in many parts of South East Asia. Consequently, this has resulted in the indiscriminate collection of the taproot from the wild, leading to fears of extinction among conservationists. Agrobacterium rhizogenes is a naturally occurring soil bacterium that infects injured plants and causes a massive proliferation of roots, known as hairy roots. The objective of this study is to determine the transformation efficiency of 2 different strains of Agrobacterium rhizogenes on somatic embryos of Eurycoma longifolia using transient GUS expression as an indicator of successful transformation. Somatic embryos cultured in vitro for 4 to 5 weeks were used as explants and were pre-cultured for 2 days in full strength MS medium containing 0.5 mg/L IBA added with 1% PVP and 2mg/L DTT. The explants were transformed using Agrobacterium rhizogenes strains AR12 and AR14. GUS assay was carried out 1 week after transformation and observed. Observations indicate that AR12 is more effective in transforming somatic embryos of Eurycoma longifolia compared to AR14. Therefore, Agrobacterium rhizogenes strain AR12 is a potential candidate for the successful transformation of Eurycoma longifolia somatic embryos, leading to the induction of sustainable hairy root cultures</text>

<text>The aim of this study was to investigate if there could be a significant positive effect by using Peer-Review Technique (PRT) on students‟ ability in writing English. An experimental research method was used in this study. A writing test based on the indicators of Jacobs et al. (1981) was completed by 65 undergraduate students in English from the English Department at the Faculty of Education and Teacher Training in the State Institute for Islamic Studies “Imam Bonjol‟ at Padang. The students were divided into two groups: an experimental group (n=33) and a control group (n=32). Both groups were similar in terms of academic level, the given writing task and their target language [English] proficiency. The experimental participants were introduced to Peer-Review Technique in essay writing sessions whilst the control group participants were taught through the teacher’s traditional feedback (TTF) whereby students worked individually to produce their texts. The findings showed that PRT gave a significant improvement effect on the students‟ writing abilities. This study is expected to serve as (1) data for further developing PRT; (2) input for lecturers in writing to develop more effective and innovative learning; and (3) additional material for the development of critical and cooperative learning theories in teaching writing.</text>

This research employed a complete randomized design with unidirectional pattern by using white rats (Rattus norvegicus) divided into five groups. Negative control group was fed with standard diet, while positive control groups were fed with high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia) diet, group K were fedwith tomato extract at a dose of 10, 20, and 40 mg/kg together with high cholesterol diet. The result of this researchshowed that high cholesterol diet fed decreased simultaneously with tomato extract at a dose of 10, 20, and 40 mg /kg of rats after 60 days of treatment. Tomato extract was able prevent the formation of plaque in the coronary arteries of rats fed with hypercholesterolemia diet. Effective dose oftomatoextractused in this study was 20-40mg/kg.</text>

<text>The objective of the present study was to investigate useful of Wedelia biflora leaves extracts as anti allergic caused by dermatitis allergic in mice. A total of 24 males Wistar mices were utilized as experimental animal in this study. The experimental animals were divided into 4 groups, and each group has 4 mices. The first group was a control which was injected with aquades (negative control), while three other groups (group 2 to group 4) were fed with Wedelia biflora extracts orally at doses of 20 g, 40 g and 60 g per kg body weight, respectively, and the fifth group was a positive control which was injected with 10% ovalbumin, and the last group was given antihistamin drug (Loratadine) as compared control. All of experimental animals were injected with ovalbumin on day 1, 7, and 21, except for negative control which were injected with distillated water. The ectracts of Wedelia biflora were fed for 21 days. The inflammation areas were measured using a digital caliper and analysis one-way Anova. The results showed that the treatment of Wedelia biflora were resulted in reducing inflammation size significantly (p<0.05) where the dose of 60 g/kg body weight was given the best result compared to other doses due to this value equivalent to antihistamine drug loratadine. We concluded that Wedelia biflora leaves extracts had the anti allergic effect.</text>
