Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui motivasi mahasiswa International Student Society untuk melanjutkan pendidikan di Universitas Syiah Kuala, bentuk gegar budaya yang dialami dalam berinteraksi pada mahasiswa International Student Society di Universitas Syiah Kuala dan proses adaptasi yang dilakukan untuk mengatasi gegar budaya yang dialami. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu melakukan Fokus Group Discussion (FGD) terhadap sembilan orang informan yang terbagi menjadi dua kelompok yang telah dipilih mewakili mahasiswa International Student Society di Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh. Adapun kriteria informan adalah pertama, merupakan mahasiswa aktif dan mahasiswa sudah menempuh minimal semester 2 (dua) di Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh. Kedua, mahasiswa yang tergabung dalam International Student Society dan terlibat langsung ke lapangan dan berhubungan dengan mahasiswa lokal ataupun non lokal di Universitas Syiah Kuala serta mahasiswa yang mampu berbahasa Indonesia dengan aktif. Hasil dari penelitian yang telah dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa International Student Society memiliki motivasi tersendiri melanjutkan pendidikan di Universitas Syiah Kuala seperti adanya beasiswa dari PACEAD atau kerjasama di bidang pendidikan tinggi, disamping itu karena adanya penegakan Syariat Islam, keindahan panorama dan Universitas Syiah Kuala merupakan universitas terbaik dan tertua di Aceh serta termotivasi oleh teman-teman dari Negara yang sama yang sudah lebih dahulu tiba. Semua informan berpendapat ketika awal kedatangan ke Aceh banyak perbedaan yang dirasakan antara budaya mereka dengan budaya di Aceh sehingga muncul gegar budaya, baik dari segi pola kehidupan, pengamalan nilai-nilai agama islam dan bahasa yang digunakan, namun demikian lambat laun mereka sudah terbiasa dengan situasi yang ada di Aceh. Untuk memulai beradaptasi dengan kondisi yang ada di Aceh, sangat dibutuhkan keterbukaan diri terhadap lingkungan baru, seperti mengikuti berbagai kegiatan yang dibuat di kampus, serta berbaur dengan masyarakat dan mahasiswa setempat. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara peneliti dengan guru dan siswa XI IPA MAN Darussalam salah satu materi yang sulit dipahami adalah materi turunan. Berdasarkan pengalaman lapangan dalam pembelajaran dikelas sering dimulai dari pemberian definisi atau konsep, memahami konsep dengan contoh-contoh kemudian dengan memecahkan persoalan matematika, sehingga siswa cenderung menghafal sebuah pola atau algoritma yang diajarkan guru. Rumusan masalah untuk penelitian ini adalah bagaimana proses berpikir siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal turunan di kelas XI IPA MAN Darussalam. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses berpikir siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal-soal turunan. Data yang diperoleh dari penelitian ini adalah data kualitatif yang didapat dari hasil wawancara yang didahului dengan tes. Subjek penelitian ini adalah kelas XI IPA 3 MAN Darussalam yang berjumlah 22 orang. Dari hasil tes diduga 10 orang siswa (45.45%) yang memiliki proses berpikir konseptual dan 12 orang siswa(54.55%) yang memiliki proses berpikir prosedural. Selanjutnya peneliti mengambil 4 orang untuk diwawancarai yaitu 2 diduga konseptual dan 2 prosedural. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data bahwa 2 subjek (S09 dan S10 ) memiliki ciri-ciri proses berpikir konseptual dan dua subjek (S20 da S11) memiliki ciri-ciri proses berpikir prosedural.Rata-rata subjek yang memiliki konseptual hasil tes yang didapat tinggi. Sedangkan subjek yang prosedural hasil tes mereka rendah.
