<text>Crystalline sodium tantalate doped with La3+ ions (La/NaTaO3) has been successfully synthesized by sol-gel technique. The photocatalysts have been prepared by mixing of TaCl5, NaOH, and La(NO3)3.2H2O in the aqueous solution of H2O2. The resulting materials are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to provide useful information about crystallinity and morphology. All samples are exactly indexed as the pure NaTaO3 orthorhombic structure with the space group Pcmn. The XRD spectra displayed a single-phase NaTaO3 structure without any impurity phase, suggesting that lanthanum is uniformly incorporated into the NaTaO3 lattice. TEM images indicates that the particle sizes of the La-doped NaTaO3 powders are approximately 30-80 nm, while the particle sizes of the non-doped NaTaO3 are around 80-250 nm. Doping lanthanum in the NaTaO3 is able to prevent agglomeration, result in particle size, and better crystallinity. The La/NaTaO3 crystal structures reveal that a certain amount of lattice distortion due to the La3+ ions occupying the Na+ sites results in the increase of crystallite size. Powder formation mechanisms for both non-doped NaTaO3 and La-doped NaTaO3 are proposed based on the experimental results. Keywords: La-doped sodium tantalum oxide, photocatalyst, sol-gel, perovskite, orthorhombic</text>

<text>Serology remains the only way to monitor the effectiveness of vaccination of humans and animals against rabies. Many techniques for determining the level of rabies antibodies have been described, and all of the methods used rabies viruses as antigen. Indeed attenuated viruses can revert to a more virulent form, and inactivated virus may produce serious side effects. Anti-idiotype Ab can induce protective immune response against rabies virus, its means that anti-idiotype Ab can be used as surrogate antigen in serological test. The aim of this study is to prepare the anti-idiotype antibody (anti-idiotype Ab) as diagnostic kit in rabies serological test. Polyclonal anti-idiotype Ab were prepared in laying chickens and purified using affinity chromatography column for IgY. Rabbit anti dog immunoglobuline were prepared used New Zeeland White strain, and dog anti rabies serum were prepared from rabies immunized dog. For the preparation of the kit, it takes a few stages, i.e. the making of stocks A, stocks B and prototype diagnostic kit. Stocks A is a mixture of S. aureus Cowan I intact in solution of Tris Buffer HCl with rabbit anti dog serum in various comparisons (v/v). Stocks B is a mixture of rabies anti-idiotype Ab with rabies antibody (IgG anti rabies) are harvested from dog.Comparison of the obtained between whole S. aureus Cowan I and rabbit serum anti dog is 4~6:2~4. Optimization of stocks A and B based on the principle as follows: a merger of stocks A and B must not cause coagglutination. Formulation of aqueous stocks A and B will be a candidate when the diagnostic kits on the positive control produces coagglutination and negative controls do not produce coagglutination. The conclusions of this study is the anti-idiotype antibody can used and prepared as kit diagnostic with the principle of coagglutination by utilizing A protein of S. aureus.</text>

<text>Cellulose acetate ultrafiltration membrane is one of kinds process of membrane which has been utilized in separation and purification processes. Cellulose acetate can be obtained from acetylation of cellulose sengon wood (Paraserianthes falcataria). Wood Sengon was used because it has potential as a raw material. There are three steps of cellulose diacetate manufacturing process: (1) activation of cellulose using acetic acid, (2) acetylation using acetic anhydride as reactant and sulfuric acid as catalyst, (3) hydrolysis. At each operating process was observed at 50oC. Preparation of cellulose diacetate membrane using phase inversion methode by addition of cellulose diacetate as polymer; N,N-Dimethyl formamide (DMF) as solvent, water as non-solvent, and Polyethylene glycol (PEG). Membrane pore size was determined by measuring Molecular Weight Cut Off (MWCO) using Dextran and Bovin Serum Albumine (BSA) as standard solution. Membrane morphology was observed by Scanning Electrone Microscope (SEM). Cellulose acetate of acetyl content of 39.66% and number average molecular weight 130,221 Da was obtained 30 minutes of activation time; one hour acetylation, and 15 hours hydrolysis. The addition of PEG produced a thickner layer and suppress the formation of macrovoid. SEM analysis shows a denser structure membrane morphology with better regularity of pore shape. The resulting membranes which were coagulated at lower temperature shows dense structure. High flux with low rejection obtained from the membrane with greater porosity and pore distribution. MWCO determination was based on the value of 80% rejection of dextran and BSA standard solution and the obtained pore size ranges obtained ≤ 67 kDa, and is still categorized as  ultrafiltration membrane</text>

<text>Abstract - The toxicity of arsenic is known to be a risk to aquatic flora and fauna and to human health even in relatively low concentration. In this research an adsorption gel was prepared from agricultural waste material (orange waste) through simple chemical modification in the view to remove arsenic (V) from water. Orange waste was crushed into small particles and saponified with Ca(OH)2 to prepare saponified orange waste, which was further modified by immobilizing gadolinium(III) to obtain desired adsorption material (Gd(III)-immobilized SOW gel). The effective pH range for arsenic adsorption was found to be 7.5 – 8.5. Adsorption capacity of the gel was evaluated to be 0.45 mol-arsenic (V)/kg. Dynamic adsorption of arsenic (V) in column-mode was conducted and a dynamic capacity was found to be 0.39 mol/kg. Elution of arsenate was tested after complete saturation of the column packed with gadolinium-immobilized orange waste adsorption gel. A complete elution of arsenate was achieved with the help of 1 M HCl and 28 times pre-concentration factor was attained. This study showed that a cheap and abundant agro-industrial waste material could be successfully employed for the remediation of arsenic pollution in aquatic environment. Keywords: Arsenic; Orange waste; Gadolinium(III); Adsorption; Elution.</text>

<text>Teaching chemistry must include some learning skills in scientific works. The students must have experience conducting small research in chemistry to train them the scientific methods. Some chemistry projects have been carried out by the students of teaching training college (FKIP) as called pre-service teachers in chemistry subject.  The students were given research problem that is how to formulate a simple sensor for detection of formalin in contaminated food. The students were asked to review literature on the composition and analysis technique of formalin. The students wrote the research proposal and presented their proposal in front of four reviewers before they start conducting research. The project of formalin sensor preparation was started with studies of the active reagent composition in liquids phase, immobilizing the active reagent in soft media, and following with studies of the sensor sensitivity toward formalin contamination in food. The Schiff Fuchsine (SF) and NASH methods for aldehyde determination were chosen as the basic theory for formalin determination.  Schiff Fuchsine (SF) in diluted sulfuric acid solution was kept overnight before use.  The media for holding of the reagent was cotton coated with chitosan, then it was pasted in tacon foil, this sensor was called forpastrip (student project-1). It could detect formalin as low as 2% (v/v) of formalin or equivalent with 0,8% of formaldehyde in contaminated food and the expired date was 10 weeks. The forpastrips was tested on food and the chemical interference was also studied (student project-2). Another project was also carried by replacing the cotton with synthetic felt and this formula was recorded as student project-3. The SF reagent immobilized in synthetic felt coated by chitosan was inserted into narrow-plastic straws. The sensitivity of this sensor increased and the detection limit as low as 0.25% (v/v) of formalin in contaminated food and the expired date was more than 12 weeks. The forth project was replacing SF with NASH reagent immobilized in cotton coated by chitosan and inserted in narrow-plastic straws. The detection limit was 0.015% (v/v) of formalin in contaminated food. All Sensors were still effective to detect formalin in sample although the sample contained of sugar, salt, fat and protein as the impurity. The research findings were written by students in their final report (script, like a thesis) after approved by the two supervisors. They students then presented their research in comprehensive exam in front of reviewers before they were graduated. Having interviews with students, they claimed that they have experience in conducting research, have followed all scientific methods. They said the research theme is very interesting, simple, contextual and it might be applied in high schoo</text>
