Air cusian beras yang digunakan adalah air cucian beras yang pertama. Parameter yang diukur yaitu tinggi tanaman (cm), jumlah daun (helai), dan berat kering (gram). Data dianalisis menggunakan Analisis Of Varians (ANOVA), sedangkan uji lanjut berdasarkan nilai KK yang diperoleh. Hasil penelitan diperoleh bahwa terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan dari berbagai konsentrasi air cucian beras terhadap  tinggi tanaman pakchoy pada umur 10 dan 20 HST) dan berat kering, namun tidak pada jumlah daun. Dried peel samples were ground to yield a powder (simplicia). Subsequently, they were extracted with organic solvents of distinct polarity levels, namely n-hexane (non-polar), chloroform (semi-polar) and methanol (polar) by use of the single-maceration method. Inhibitory effects on tyrosinase activity (monophenolase) and DOPA auto-oxidation (diphenolase) were determined in bioassays. Assays with the methanol extract revealed IC50 values of 784.87 μg mL-1 (monophenolase) and of 1176.66 μg mL-1 (diphenolase), respectively. In contrast, n-hexane and chloroform extracts showed no activity. These results indicate that the methanolic fruit peel extract contained tyrosinase-inhibiting compounds, such as flavonoids, tannins and saponins, whereas the n-hexane and chloroform extracts yielded alkaloids, steroids and triterpenoids without tyrosinase-inhibiting activity. The phenolic compounds had a strong effect on the tyrosinase enzymes, inhibiting monophenolases by 97% and diphenolases by 96%, with a positive correlation between the total phenolic content and the inhibition rate in both activities. The objective of this study was to know potential of solid waste in Pelalawan district, Riau province. Research was carried out from December 2007 – January 2008 in Pelalawan district by using 4 factories of Elaeis guineensis (PKS). The four factories that were used for data collection were PT. Multi Palma Sejahtera (MPS), PT. Inti Indo Sawit Subur (IIS), PT. Sinar Agro Raya (SAR) and PT. Musim Mas (MM). The results of study showed that solid waste in Pelalawan district of Riau province had a great potential. Production of solid waste in Pelalawan district was around 76.176 tons/year and carrying capacity was 5.132 animals unit. Farmers will use solid waste at large quantity if they raise livestock in commercially, for instance for fattening purpose. The strategies which can be applied to maximize solid waste utilization are through partnership between farmers and factories or local government pihak PKS. The Province of Aceh has the large potential of palm plant development with  high production value, when supported by an integrated coconut industry.  Today with potential expansion of coconut in 8 point production centers has 210.400 ha,  we needs the processing technology that can utilize a by product and product primer, such as coir and coconut shell. Research has been conducted in four districts of Aceh by using census method. The results showed the coefficient of technology produced from 12 unit integrated coconut processing industry is 0.6806. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan enam perlakuan dan empat ulangan. Setiap kelompok perlakuan kecuali kontrol (P0) diberi paparan EPEC secara oral sebagai penginduksi diare sebanyak 6,0x108CFU/mL selama 7 hari. Perlakuan terdiri atas kontrol tidak diiinfeksi dengan EPEC (P0), kontrol positif yang diinfeksi dengan EPEC tanpa pemberian Nifuroxazide dan air seduhan kelopak bunga rosela(P1). Perlakuan P2,P3, P4 dan P5 dilanjutkan dengan pemberian 500mL/70 kg bb Nifuroxazide (P2), 250 mL/kg bb seduhan kelopak bunga rosela (P3), 500 mL/kg bb seduhan kelopak bunga rosela (P4) dan 750 mL/kg bb seduhan kelopak bunga rosela (P5). Perlakuan diberikan secara oral dari hari ke-8 hingga ke-11 sesuai dengan pemberian antibiotik standar. Parameter yang diamati adalah frekuensi defekasi diamati setiap 30 menit selama 5 jam. Data dianalisis menggunakan ANAVA dan dilanjutkan dengan uji jarak berganda Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan air seduhan kelopak rosela mempengaruhi frekuensi defekasi mencit diare akibat EPEC dan dosis terkecil sudah mampu menurunkan frekuensi defekasi dari mencit diare akibat infeksi EPEC.Kata kunci : Hibiscus sabdariffa L., EPEC, Frekuensi defekasiABSTRACTThis study was perfomed to examine the antidiarrhea activities of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. calyx infusion caused by Enterophatogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) in white mice. Completely randomized design was applied of this research consisted six treatments and four replications of each treatment. Each group were infected orally by 6,0x108CFU/mL of EPEC for 7 days. Control was not infected by EPEC (P0) and infected by EPEC (P1). Antibiotic Nifuroxazide 500 mL/70kg body weight as comparison (P2), and given Hibiscus sabdariffa L. calyx infusion at a dose of 250 mL/kg body weight(P3), 500 mL/kg body weight (P4), and 750 mL/kg body weight (P5). Treatments given orally from 8th to 11th according to standar of antibiotic. Parameter were frequency of defecation observed every 30 minutes for 5 hours. Data analized by ANAVA and continued with Duncan. This research belongs to quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group design factorial 2x2. The research variables consist of independents variable A & B, the former is the integration strategy of PBL + Jigsaw and conventional learning strategy and the latest is low and high academic ability. While the dependent variable is understanding of concept. The research population is the new students of four study programs: Biology, Biology Education, Chemistry, and Chemistry Education in the faculty of Math and Science UNM in academic years 2011/2012. Two classes were selected as the research samples, Chemistry Education (N=36) as the experimental class, and Biology class (N=30) as a control class (using conventional strategy). On those two classes, the students with high and low academic ability are selected based on the result of grouping test. The instrument used is essay test on Fundamental Biology course. The research data were collected by giving test before and after treatment then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Anacova is used to test the hypothesis of differences. The research result shows that (1) the strategy of learning has an influence on the concept understanding of the students so that the integration strategy of PBL+Jigsaw has more potency to improve concept understanding of the students rather than conventional one, (2) There is no differences of understanding of concepts on high and low academic ability, (3) there is no influence of interaction between the learning strategy with academic ability toward concept understanding.
