<text>Two types of catalysts based on Indonesia Natural Zeolite (INZ) and Australia Natural Zeolite (ANZ) were prepared by impregnation of 5 % of active metal cobalt. The synthesized catalysts were calcined in air at 5500C for 6 hours. The catalysts were then used to degrade phenol concentration in heterogeneous catalytic oxidation with the presence of oxone as peroxymonosulphate source. The catalysts were also characterized by several techniques such as SEM, EDS and N2 adsorption. It was found that Co-INZ and Co-ANZ are effective catalyst in activation of peroxymonosulphate to produce sulphate radicals to degrade phenol concentration. In reaction test of 5 hours, with condition of 25 ppm phenol, 0.2 g catalyst loading, 1 gram oxone, 250C and stirring speed of 400 rpm, Co-INZ and Co-ANZ could reduce phenol up to 100% and 70% respectively. Further, several parameters such as amount of catalyst loading, phenol concentration, oxidant concentration and temperature are found as key factors in phenol degradation. Moreover, based on the trend of phenol degradation following by kinetic study, it was proved that the pseudo first order kinetics would fit to phenol oxidation with the rate constants of 0.0106 and for 0.0033 Co-INZ and Co-ANZ respevtively</text>

<text>Effects of Ameliorant and Mycorrhiza on Soil Phosphate Availability, Phosphorus Uptake, Growth, and yield of Corn (Zea mays L.) in Andisol.Abstract. Andisol is soil with a very high P adsorption, whereas available P is very low. As low P availability, P becomes limiting to plant growth. This study was aimed at determining the effect of ameliorant and mycorrhiza application on availability of phosphate and growth and phosphorus uptake of corn in Andisol. Soil samples of Andisol were taken from Tunyang Village, Timang Gajah Sub District at 0-20 cm depth of typic hapludand. The experiment was carried out in pots and arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) 4x2 factorial with 3 replications. The first factor was types of ameliorant, consisting of 4 levels, i.e. without ameliorant, manure, rice straw and Gliciridia leaves, each 20 t ha-1 or equivalent to 111 g per polybag. The second factor was mycorrhiza with 2 levels, i.e. without mycorrhiza and mycorrhiza 10 g per polybag. Results showed that various types of ameliorants affected soil pH, total P, available P (Bray 1), and index of soil P availability and improved growth, phosphorus uptake, and yield of corn. Mycorrhiza affected soil pH, plant height at 15 and 30 days after planting and mycorrhizal root infection, but did not affect soil P availability and yield of corn. There was no interaction between ameliorant and mycorrhiza. Types of ameliorant providing the best P availability and yield of corn were manure and Gliciridia leaves at dose of 20 t ha-1.Abstrak. </text>

<text>The interest on research methods using photograph and photo-interview has emerged in the last decade. However, some aspects of this method were less explained for further application. This review revealed the state of knowledge of photo-voice in qualitative nursing and health researches in order to provide an updated description on this method. Photo-voice is one of visual research methods to elicit information through participant-produced photographs and photo interview. The objective of this review was to explore the current applications of photo-voice regarding to the terms used, the framework underpinning the researches, the research designs, the concepts explored, the advantages and disadvantages identified and the guideline provided for future use. Based on the literature reviewed, photo-voice has proved its applicability to address sensitive issues and to provide richer data and deeper analysis. This research method could improve the comprehensiveness of the data produced and increase the participation of groups being investigated. The rich visual and narrative data collected by this method are considered appropriate to be applied in exploring the marginalized groups in a way that empower them. This method also opens the chance to involve other disciplines in a research team. Some issues to consider in applying this method are time-consuming and technical limitatiosn, as well as the challenges in maintaining the level of participation. However, the advantages of the method were more prominent, especially in balancing the power in research and empowering the participants. This method was recommended to use in researches conducted in oppressed or marginalized groups for the purpose of empowerment and producing indigenous knowledge of the groups</text>

<text>The present study attempts to assess the population structure and phylogenetics of the commercially important local black scar oyster, Crassostrea iredalei (Faustino 1932) from wild and cultured populations. We analyzed the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence variation in 581 base pairs (bp) of the cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene among 141 individuals from eight localities within Peninsular Malaysia. The population genetics data showed a low within population nucleotide diversity, π (0.001 – 0.003) and the total haplotype diversity, h was moderate (0.417 – 0.682). Minimum spanning network revealed a complex geographical distribution of the haplotypes. Phylogenetic relationships among the populations inferred by Neighbor-Joining and Maximum Parsimony algorithm failed to detect differentiation between these sites, indicating genetic homogeneity across the populations. The findings from this study will have important implications for aquaculture, management and monitoring of cultured populations as well as conservation of wild oyster species in Malaysia.</text>

As other types of native starch that lack of physical and chemical characteristics, the sweet potato flour then is very limited in use. To improve the starch characteristics, it can be made by modifying the starch physically. This study was focused on modification of starch phisically by using autoclaving-cooling method with differ in steaming times (15 and 30 minutes) and drying methods (oven and sun drying). The results showed that the modified flour of sweet potato by autoclaving-cooling for one cycle has produce sweet potato flour with a granular structure that can expand and break, lower in starch content, higher in freezing and thawing stability, higher in water absorption index, and lower in hot and cooling viscosities</text>

<text>Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is one species of the vegetation that produces essential oil known as patchouli oil. The quantity of patchouli alcohol contained in patchouli oil determines the oil quality. This study investigates fractional distillation of patchouli oils (Pogostemon cablin) to increase the level of patchouli alcohol in patchouli oils. The separation process is carried out by fractional distillation method applying four fractionation temperatures: 120°C, 125°C, 130°C, and 135°C. The compositions of each fraction were identified using Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Patchouli oil A and B with initial patchouli alcohol content of 27.03% and 36.87% were successfully fractionated resulting four fractions of patchouli oils. The final levels of patchouli alcohol are increased to become 35.35% and 43.62%, respectively as well as the densities of the four fractions</text>

<text>Abstract - Drug resistance microorganisms have posed enormous public concern there is therefore a need to screen plants that could have the potency in the control of the pathogenic organisms. The extracts obtained from the Acalypha racemosa were screened for phytochemical properties and in vitro investigation of methanol and aqueous extracts. The phytochemical screening revealed the presence of saponins, phlabatanins, flavonoids, and alkaloids. Glycoside and cardiac glycoside, tannins and sterols were in traced amount. The in vitro antibacterial investigation of the crude extract was conducted. The studies showed that the plant contains compounds that have antibacterial activity. The extracts revealed greater potential against the test bacteria with zones of inhibition ranging from 20-30 mm for methanol extract in the order Escherichia coli>Klebsiella pneumoniae>Proteus mirabilis>Bacillus subtilis>Pseudomonas aeruginosa and 18-27mm for aqueous extract in the order Escherichia coli> Bacillus subtilis> Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa> Proteus mirabilis. All the bacteria were more susceptible to methanol extract than the aqueous extract as indicated in the zones of inhibition with exception of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in which there was no inhibition. The aqueous extract had effect on all the test bacteria although having zones of inhibition lower than the methanol extract. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of both extracts range from 12.5-50 mg/ml and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) range from 25-100 mg/ml. Escherichia coli was more susceptibility to both extracts and less was seen in the case of aqueous extract against Proteus mirabilis. The screening of the plant has revealed its potency in the treatment of pathogenic infections that may be caused by these pathogens.</text>

<text>The potential of plant-assisted bioremediation in crude oil polluted aquatic ecosystems was studied. The aim was to access the efficacy of Eichornia. crassipes (Water hyacinth) and their associated microorganisms in the treatment of crude oil contaminated waters and the duration of treatment required for the restoration of acceptable water quality. The experimental approach involved the exposure of the plants to varying concentrations of crude oil (500mg/l, 2500mg/l and 5000mg/l) under laboratory conditionsfor six weeks. From the results, percentage reductions of total hydrocarbon content were 98.46, 99.65 and 99.82% under 500mg/l, 2500mg/l and 5000mg/l of crude oil exposure concentrations respectively. In addition, the total heterotrophic bacteriaand fungi, and the hydrocarbon degrading bacteria and fungi in the exposure media increased from 0.07 to 1.48 Cfu/ml, while the growth of E. crassipes was enhanced from 1kg to 4kg. Water quality variables were also observed to improve significantly with percentage reductions of 99.82, 99.95, 99.99 and 85.05 for chemical oxygen demand, nitrate, phosphate and total organic carbon after six weeks of treatment with E. crassipes. It is concluded that the introduction of E. crassipesin oil contaminated waters resulted intheremoval of the crude oil and restoration of water quality through the interaction of E.crassipes and their associated microorganisms. Thus, E.crassipes can serve as an agent of bioremediation in crude oil contaminated waters</text>
