<text>Infections caused by bacteria Methycillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has become a worldwide health problem because of its increasing incidence. Rosella flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn) has been known to have efficacy as an antibacterial. The purpose of this study is to determine the antibacterial activity of rosella flower extract in inhibiting the growth of MRSA. This study is an experimental research laboratory using rosella flower extract as a treatment, vancomycin as a positive control and distilled water as negative control. Fresh and dried rosella flowers crushed and then macerated with 96% ethanol for 24 hours. The filtrate obtained was concentrated by rotary evaporator at a temperature of 35 ˚ C-40 ˚ C and then diluted to a concentration of 12.5%, 25%, 50% and 75%. Phytochemical test is then performed. S.aureus bacteria isolated from clinical specimens in RSUDZA. Test of the antibacterial activity of rosella flower extract performed using Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method. Parameters on the disc were measured in millimeters MRSA. The data obtained were statistically analyzed and grouped into categories of Greenwood (1995). Phytochemical test results indicate the presence of rosella flower extract contains flavonoids, tannins, saponins, triterpenoids and alkaloids. Test results of the inhibition of rosella flower extract concentration of 12.5%, 25%, 50% and 75% of the growth of MRSA each inhibitory zone formed with an average diameter of 14.2 mm, 19.2 mm, 22.8 mm and 24.18 mm, whereas the positive control and negative control respectively of 19.8 mm and 5 mm. The results of data analysis showed that the ethanol extract of rosella flowers significant effect in inhibiting the growth of MRSA by the value of p <0.05. Based on the criteria of Greenwood, rosella flower extract ethanol concentration of 50% and 75% belong to the category of strong inhibitory power in inhibiting the growth of MRSA, a concentration of 25% falls into the category of being and the concentration of 12.5% falls into the category of weak. The results can be concluded that rosella flower ethanol extract can inhibit the growth of MRSA.</text>

<text>Field experiment was conducted at Kunri, Hasul Rind Farm during 2011-12 to assess the effect of Chrysoperla carnea Stephens and Trichogramma chiloni (Ishii) on the population of insect pests in chilli ecosystem. The experiment consisted tree treatments viz; (1) pest population were left untreated (2) C. carnea 1500 eggs /card were released (3) T. chilonis 1500 eggs /cards were released. Results concluded that sucking also chewing pest population in chilli was suppressed significantly in plot B and C where natural enemies were released. Reduction in thrips, aphid, mite and whitefly numbers was found due to release of C. carnae, it was 57.31, 70.86, 65.12 and 80% %, respectively. An impact of C. carnae on tobacco caterpillar population was 53.18%. Gram pod borer and tobacco caterpillar population was observed enormously in untreated plots. Reduction in its population in plot C was found owing to release of T. chilonis, it was 74.14 and 89.38 % when compared to untreated plots. It is concluded from the findings that C. carnae should be released in initial days when sucking complex raised at economic threshold level and T. chiloni release is necessary when crop reached flowers and buds stage</text>

<text>Nosocomial infection is a disease caused by a pathogenic agent that is acquired during a patient’s hospitalization or treatment inside another health care facility. The said infection can be caused by microorganisms. These microorganisms may already be present in the patient's body or may come from the environment, contaminated hospital equipment; An intravenous (IV) set used during IV therapy is one example of the possible materials containing these microorganisms. The main purpose of this study is to determine the presence of microorganisms on injections ports of IV sets before and after disinfection whenadministering IV medications in the patients admitted to the medicine wards of Hospital X and Y. Presence of microorganisms despite disinfection may pose risk to patients through the entry of bacteria upon injection through the port. Thirty swab samples were obtained from each hospital. Swab samples were then isolated on nutrient agar plates. Hospital Y samples yielded no bacterial isolates whereas all 30 samples in Hospital X showed bacterial isolates. Swab samples underwent gram-staining to distinguish between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Streptococcus species and Staphylococcus species which are classified as grampositive bacteria were among the bacterial species identified before and after disinfection and were found on all the samples obtained from Hospital X. Based on the findings of this study, adherence to infection controlprocedures were not well established to reduce or eliminate microorganisms on injection ports in Hospital X that may cause Nosocomial infections. In line with these, it is highly recommended that proper infection control and maintenance procedures should be strictly enforced to reduce, if not eliminate themicroorganisms on injection port which are possible causes of Nosocomial infections and may threaten thempatients’ health</text>

<text>Energy crisis involved the excessive consumption of fuels causing the increased in energy demands, oil price and depletion of fossil fuels. This has resulted in generation of high level of greenhouse gases emission. Therefore, in order to overcome these problems, alternative fuel has to be produced. This study was conducted to isolate potential fungal strains which can hydrolyze oil-palm residues as feedstock for bioethanol production. One hundred and sixty four fungal isolates were isolated from various sources and were screened for reducing sugars and protein production using submerged fermentation system. Out of these, 65 fungal strains were found capable to produce high specific activity relatively on oil-palm residues with the assay condition of temperature at 50oC for incubation time of 24 hours. Fungal isolate namely, Penicillium rolfsii was selected for subsequent study since it showed the highest capability to hydrolyze oil-palm residues comparing to other fungal strains based on time-course profile for 48 hours incubation time. Capability of Penicillium rolfsii on hydrolysis of oil-palm residues was evaluated by comparing to type strain of NBRC7735 and commercial enzymes (Celluclast 1.5L and Accellerase®1500). Conversion of these lignocellulosic oil-palm residues into fermentable sugars by enzymatic hydrolysis for bioethanol production has to be further investigated to move towards on alternative, renewable, sustainable, efficient and cost effective energy source</text>

<text>The area of coverage of waste management services in some areas sometimes only focus on specific areas such as the capital province, district or city. Some areas of the region (district) still do not get special attention for waste management facilities services from local City Sanitation Department. In this study we raised two villages located on the banks of the Kampar River and examined the management of non-organic domestic waste in this area. We choose Pulau Birandang Village and Alai Village because of the habit this people to throw garbage like non-organic waste (such as paper, plastics, etc) to the Kampar river. This act is very dangerous for the sustainability of water security and can cause silting rivers. The aims of this research to analyze the influence of commercial approach as a solution to solve waste problem in both villages. Commercial approach is the method applied by giving incentives to people who are sort the non-organic waste according to its kind. Data for this study were collected from observation using 80 questionnaires to 80 respondents from both villages, the Pulau Birandang village and Alai village. Results of the analysis is also reinforced by opinión from the leaders of them (people) who are likely to reflect the wishes of the people too. The results from this study is the commercial approach (take and give system) which applied in this villages could increase people's enthusiasm in managing domestic waste by sorting waste before it is collected.</text>

This study aimed to determine the effect of indigenous mycorrhizalinoculation on organic osmotic adjusment in different soybean varities. This study used Split Plot Design with two plots. The main plot was soybean varieties consist of non-selected Grobogan variety (salt-sensitive variety) and F5 selected Grobogan variety (salt-tolerant variety). Split plot was mycorrhizal inoculumconsists of 7 types of mycorrhizal inoculum namely without inoculum, Glomus sp-1, Glomus sp-2, Glomus sp-3, Glomus sp-4, Glomus sp-5, and combined of all mycorrhizal inoculum. The parameters observed were leaf proline content, reducing sugar and soluble protein. The results showed that leaf proline content, reducing sugar content and soluble protein were significantly different in soybean varieties, mycorrhizal significantly affected leaf proline content, reducing sugar and soluble protein, while the soybean varieties and mycorrhizal interaction significantly affected soluble protein content in leaves.</text>

<text>Infection caused by Mycobaterium tuberculosis exists in form of intracellular infection, which leads to lymphocyte activation. CD69 is the first lymphocyte activation marker expressed in Th1 lymphocyte, which follows by IL-12 release. Flow cytometry analysis can identify the subpopulations of lymphocytes and intracellular cytokines such as IL-12, yet precise preparation needs to be done. This research aims to conduct optimization with four color lyse/wash flow cytometry assay system FastImmune™ FACSCalibur examination, with monoclonal antibody IL-12, CD69, CD3, and CD4 in succession uses fluorochrome PE, PerCP, FITC, and APC.To activate the lymphocytes from heparinized whole blood, we used activation agent which derives from isolated heat-killed sonicated Mycobacterium tuberculosis Beijing strain. Optimal concentration from the according activation agents is 40 mL. To determine the compensation, BDTM CompBead and blank-cell unstainning are used, but the maximum result showed by blank-cell unstainning. Each monoclonal antibody dosage of IL-12PE, CD69 PerCP, and CD3 FITC is 40 mL, while CD4 APC 5 mL. Total event lymphocyte is determined minimally by 10,000 events. With 18,510 total events and Th gated events quantity are 4,692, the result obtained is IL12-PE has 7.4% gated (347 events); CD69+ perCP/CD3+ FITC 18.2% (850 events); and CD69+ perCP/CD4+ APC 3.9%.</text>

<text>Water quality and quantity is always an important issue in lowland ecosystem of Banyuasin. Low domestic water supply sanitation is considered as having an important contribution on the high frequency of waterborne diseases in the area. The study aims at recording water borne diseases and the water quality in the lowland area of Banyuasin District. This field research was conducted using a cross-sectional method. Total samples were 210 households in Telang which were observed during July through August 2011. Six water samples were measured for their physical and chemical properties, in addition to 1 water sample for bacteriological test. All respondents used river water for sanitary purposes and 41.4% of them also have dug wells. Those who used river water for sanitation, 68.5 % also consumed purified water for drinking purpose. All water samples are acidic (pH 5,68-6,19) and contain high Iron (1-26,269 Mg/L). Water has yellowish color. The major disease are diarrhea and skin diseases. In the lowland area with the estuarine ecosystem water quality and scarcity are serious problems. This in turn causes the high prevalent of waterborne diseases such as diarea. Low level of education and socio-economic status make it difficult for the local people to overcome these problems. Outside intervention especially government so as to improve the condition is needed</text>

<text>This study uses Aquaphotomics to measure Cadmium (Cd) and Magnesium (Mg) in aqueous solutions by analysing the changes in water spectra that occur due to water-metal interaction. Metals have no absorbance in the NIR spectral range, thus the methods developed so far have focused on detection of metal-organic complexes. Measurements were performed with Cd (II) and Mg(II) in 0.1 M HNO3, in the 680-1090 nm (water second and third overtones) and 1110-1800 nm (water first overtone) spectral regions, and were subjected to partial least-square regression analysis. Metal ions were scanned by NIRSystem 6500 using cuvette cell with 2 mm path length, in three consecutive days. Data for two days were used as data set and the rest of the data were used as prediction set. The calibration and prediction statistics obtained in this study indicated the potential of NIRS to predict metal ions in aqueous 0.1 M HNO3 solution with correlation coefficient (R2pred.>0.7). The RPD (residual predictive deviation) or ratio of standard error of prediction to the standard deviation, values were greater than 2, indicating that the model is appropriate for practical use (Cozzolino,2007). By using water matrix coordinates (WAMACS) from regression coefficient, obtained a consistency specific wavelength for each　metal.. These results showed that the PLS model were able to detect character metal ions in the NIR region of electromagnetic spectra with high accuracy even at very low concentrations (0-10 ppm). </text>
