<text>Rapid developments in biotechnology increase the demand to separate biomolecules using mild process conditions. The separation of lysozyme by mixed matrix membrane adsorbers was studied. MP500, a strong anion exchange resin is incorporated as adsorbent into an EVAL polymeric matrix. The membranes in this study are prepared by immersion precipitation out of a DMSO solution containing 14% EVAL. All membranes contain 65% resin based on dry solids. The morphology of the membranes are characterized using scanning electron microscopy. Dynamic adsorption capacities of lysozyme onto mixed matrix membrane adsorbers are measured. The dynamic lysozyme adsorption capacity at 10% break through is determined as 43 mg lysozyme/g membrane.</text>

<text>Patchouli oil from patchouli plant (Pogostemon cablin Benth) is one of important essential oils as a source of Indonesian foreign exchange. It is about 90% of world patchouli oil from Indonesia (Suara Merdeka, 2006). The objectives of this research were to assess the yield and quality of patchouli oils from four different villages in the sub district of Kuala Batee, Aceh Barat Daya based on the original area of raw material and the method of distillation, also based on length of distillation. The nested design was used in this research with the treatment of two factors combination, with the level of one factor similar but not identical. The treatments were the original area of raw material and the distillation method used in the original area of the raw material (BM1-4), and the length of distillation (5, 6, and 7 hours). Parameter observed were yield, specific gravity, refractive index, alcohol solubility, the concentration of patchouli alcohol, ester number, acid number, and the sensory test on color and clarity. The results indicated that the original area of raw material and distillation method (BM) had a significant effect on yield, refractive index, clarity, and acid number. The yield was 2.85%-4.5%, and patchouli oil from BM4 and BM2 gave higher yield but lower patchouli alcohol concentration, and clarity. The results also indicated that the longer time of distillation the higher patchouli oil yield, specific gravity, and patchouli alcohol concentration. However, it affected the lower alcohol solubility and clarity, the higher ester number, and the darker color of the patchouli oil. The concentration of patchouli alcohol in this study ranges from 21.36% to 34.03%. Patchouli oil yielded in this research have complied the SNI 06-2385-2006</text>

<text>The effect of lipids on antioxidant activities of tested antioxidants and the galangal seasoning, Tom-Kha paste extract were determined. The result showed that heating caused a decrease of DPPH scavenging activity of lauric acid but did not affected on ABTS scavenging activity of both lauric acid and virgin coconut oil. However, ABTS scavenging activity of p-hydroxycinnamic acid and the paste extract in both lauric acid and virgin coconut oil systems increased after thermal processing. In the system of lauric acid, peroxide value (PV) of almost mixtures was increased (p<0.05) by heating. Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) of the mixtures were not significantly different (p<0.05) after thermal processing while p-anisidine value (AV) of only lauric acid-gallic was enhanced after heating. The results showed that PV of virgin coconut oil added with all tested antioxidant was not changed after heating. TBARS of virgin coconut oil added with antioxidant samples seemed to slightly increase after heating. AV of virgin coconut oil with added gallic acid and the paste extract were not changed while AV of virgin coconut oil with added p-hydroxycinnamic acid and Trolox seemed to decrease after heating</text>

<text>The problem in the sea cucumber culture development in Indonesia is the difficulty to find the culture area that could provide optimal production. This study analyzed the cultivated habitat that could provide optimal growth, proximate and total energy to sandfish Holothuria scabra cultivated in different habitats. The study was done from March to June 2011 in the Puteangin Island, Lasitae Village, District Tanete Rilau, Barru Regency, South Sulawesi. The cage size used was 2 m in length, 1 m in width, and 1.5 m in height. The net mesh-size was 0.5 inch. The cage placed at three different habitats, i.e. sandy overgrown with seagrass habitat, sandy covered with corals habitat, andsandy habitat. The study consisted of three treatments and three replications. Growth was observed by measuring the daily specific growth rate and absolute weight growth. Proximate and energy content of sandfish was analyzed atthe beginning and the end of the study. The study reveals that the sand and seagrass habitat provide the best results with daily specific growth rate is 1.15% ± 0.03%. The absolute weight growth is 28.45 g ± 0.95 g. The proximate content is 0.24 g ± 0.492 g for protein, 0.07 g ± 0.395 g for fat, and 18.026 g ± 0.39 g for carbohydrate. The highest energy content is 176 997 calories.</text>

<text>Anthurium andraeanum is an epiphyte with a habit of growth climbing. This plant has long duration of seed development and juvenile growth phase before flowering. A. andraeanum has 5 flowers per plant per year, with a variation from 0 to 7 flowers. The aims of this study are to determine the effect of intermittent mist and inclination bench on the growth and production of Anthurium in rock wool medium. This study uses cluster randomized design (RAK) 3 x 3 factorial pattern with 3 repetitions. There are three factors were tested in this experiment: 1) mist treatment (mist and control), 2) media type (bark andgranulous rock wool), 3) inclination angle of bench (0, 30 and 60 degrees). The investigations were leaf area, the number of inflorescence harvested, the spathe area, the fresh and dry weights. The results showed the plants with intermittent mist have bigger leaves and growth faster than control. Intermittent mist hassimilar effect with relative humidity as in the native of A. andraeanum. The root of plants on the inclination bench 0° with intermittent mist contact a substrate, and attached or penetrate to the rock wool medium and grown down wards the medium and bench. All flowers from plants grown under intermittent mist classified as large flowers, with the average around 14.19 cm. Intermittent mist and medium influenced the fresh and dry weight of Anthurium. Plants with intermittent mist have the average 18.17gram fresh weight and control just 12.96 gram per plant. The structure, length, branching pattern and thickness of aerial roots varied depend on intermittent mist, medium and inclination bench have an effect to the growth and flowering of plants</text>

Following the study which confirmed the antimalarial activity of the n-hexane fraction of the neem leaves (Azadirachta indica A.Juss), a research that aimed to reveal the active compounds act as antimalarial agents had been conducted. In this study, the n-hexane fraction of neem leaves were analyzed using the phytochemical, spectroscopic and chromatographic methods. The chemical compounds, suspected to have an antimalarial activity, were isolated using the thin-layer chromatographic method with several solvents which different in their polarity. The visualizing reagents were used to characterize the compounds. The result showed that the n-hexane fraction of neem leaves contained of steroids, terpenoids and fenols. Analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy showed that fenol derivatives existed in the largest amount. The compounds were identified as benzyl benzoat (25.63%), tetracosane (17.51%) and hexadecanal (14.61%)</text>

The objective of this survey is to determinate Rock Quality Designation (RQD) of the granitic rock mass quarried from terrace 9 (highest) to terrace 7. The SASW survey was conducted with using OROS 25 and the software that used for data processing is Winsasw 3.1.3. The Rock Quality Designation (RQD) for terrace 9 varies from 45.63 % to 94.17 %. Base onSuharsono rock classification system, these two values suggest that the rock mass is easy rippable and need blasting. The RQD for terrace 8 are 40.12 %, 72.43 %, 80.35 % and 99.39 % which are classified as easy rippble, hardly rippable, required hydraulic breaker and blasting. The terrace 7 has three RQD show that the rock mass requires hydraulic breaker and blasting</text>

The ant-plant was extracted using maceration technique with the ethanol as solvent. The extract was made in various concentrations: 5, 10, 25, and 50 ppm. Then DPPH solution was added to it. Absorbance reading was conducted with spectrophotometry at the wave length of 517 nm after 30 minutes. The result of research shows the potency of ant-plant (Mymercodia sp) as an antioxidant free radical scavenging ethanolic extract with IC50 value of 14.73 ppm. The ascorbic acid as the control showed IC50 value of 7:32 ppm.</text>

The research wasconducted at the Research Institute for Experimental Sungei White, Rubber Research Center for four months (May-August 2012) in the area of crop planting clones IRR 42 years in 2006 (6 years old plants). The treatments tested include concentration of stimulant (S) consisting of 1.25%, 2.50%, 3.50% and 4.50%,treatment application interval (W) consists of one and two times per month as well as application control treatment (without stimulants). The results showed an average production of 2.50% on stimulant treatment and 4.50% at intervals of twice per month (S2W2 and S4W2) have higher production compared with other treatments. In general, plant physiology is still below the threshold. S2W2 treatment is the best treatment to optimize the potential of the plant because it has high production but showed lower stress than the exploitation S4W2. Further research is needed in a longer period of time to determine plant responses to each treatment</text>
