<text>The thermophilic cellulolytic bacteria are potential organisms for applications such as in decomposition of organic materials and enzyme technology. One potential organic materials which is very abundant in Indonesia is rice straw, which have not been optimally utilized. The problem is, the compostingprocess of straw in nature is used to take along time, so it needs to add effective decomposer microoroganisms which can adapt on compost termperature rise. The aims of this research were to isolated and selected thermophilic cellulolytic bacteria and Trichoderma harzianum and tested the isolates on rice straw composting. This research is executed in laboratory in faculty of agriculture, University of Alwashliyah Medan. Twenty thermophilic cellulolytic bacteria were isolated from several process composting of rice strawand corn waste at high temperature, from peat land and sidebu-debu hot spring, while Trichoderma harzianum fungi that used in this research was already got from previous research. Cellulolytic activity was determined by ability of bacteria and fungi to degrade carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) substrate. Cellulolytic microorganisms was selected based on clear zone which form surrounding the colonies. Cellulase activity was measured by dinitrosalisilic acid (DNS) method. Results showed that there were 5 isolates (JG12, JG9,JG7 JR2, SD1) showing the best ability to degrade CMC. JG12 isolate had the higest diameter ratio of clear zone and enzyme activity ( 2,6 and 5,07 x 10-3 U/mL), while T. Harzianum had ratio of clear zone 1,22 and enzyme activity 4,02 x 10-3 U/mL).Then the selected bacteria and T. Harzianum were test on rice straw composting. This selection was used complete block Random Design Factorial, which consist of bacteria isolates as the first factor (S0=control, S1= Straw+JG7, S2=Straw+JR2, S3=Straw+JG9, S4=Straw+JG12, S5=Straw+SD1) and T. Harzianum as the second factor( T0=control, T1=Straw+T. harzianum). The result of this research are the highest decreasing of ratio C/N is caused by the treatment combination S4T1 which is consist of JG12 bacteria isolate that isolated from corn waste composting and Trichoderma harzianum (C/N = 17,16).</text>

<text>Inappropriate uses of antimicrobial drugs have contributed to the development of resistant microbial pathogens. This phenomenon requires discovery and development of potential antimicrobial compounds from organic materials. Lumbricus rubellus is the ubiquitous earthworm containing antimicrobial peptide named Lumbricin-1. The aim of this study was to determine the broad spectrum antimicrobial activity of Lumbricus rubellus powder against several drug resistant microbes such as Multidrug Resistant (MDR) Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Fluconazole resistant Candida albicans. This experimental study was conducted using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 6 treatment groups consisting of 100 mg, 200 mg, 300 mg, 400 mg and 500 mg L.rubellus powder in 5 ml solvent (acetic acid and acetonitrile) and negative control groups. One percent of each concentration then was used in the antimicrobial activity testing using Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method. Data of this research were analyzed by ANOVA. The results showed that L. rubellus powder in each of the concentrations of 100 mg, 200 mg, 300 mg, 400 mg and 500 mg obtained an average inhibition zone of 14.33 mm, 14.17 mm, 14.00 mm, 15.00 mm and 13.00 mm respectively against MDR P. aeruginosa; 16.75 mm, 18.50 mm, 18.75 mm, 16.75 mm and 17.25 mm against MRSA; 16.50 mm, 18.00 mm, 17.50 mm, 17.75 mm and 16 mm against Fluconazole resistant C. albicans. Statistical analysis revealed that Lumbricus rubellus powder in the tested concentrations showed significant broad spectrum antimicrobial activity against drug resistant microbes (p<0.05).</text>

<text>In this study, composites were made from source of recycled HDPE and rice husk as filler as well as addition of double coupling agent in order to improve mechanical properties of produced composites. The aim of this study is to know the effect of addition of double coupling agent of maleic anhydride (MA) and maleic anhydride polyethylene (MAPE) on quality of produced composites. In this research, the ratio of MA and MAPE that applied are 1:1; 1:2 and 2:1. The hot press method was used in order to form these composites. The composite formation process was perfomed at medium temperature of 170 oC for 30 minutes. After pressed manually and heated at these temperature later composite samples were cooled to room temperature naturally, and finally composites were tested to know its mechanical properties of tensile strength and bending strength as well as water absorption capacity. The results showed that the simultant addition of MA and MAPE as double coupling agent can improve the quality of the produced composites. The amount of MAPE that is added in MA coupling agent affected both the value of the tensile strength and bonding strength of the composites. The similar characterstics also occurred on property of water absorption on immersed composite. By addition of the MAPE and MA together then both coupling agents are increasing bonding adhesion between matrix and filler becomes stronger and tighter. The highest value of tensile strength of 5.75 MPa was obtained on the composite ratio of MA:MAPE= 1:2. While the highest value of bending strength of 4.1 MPa was also obtained on the composite with the same ratio. The highest water absorption of produced composites was found on composite by adding of ratio MA:MAPE=2:1 that is 9.4%</text>

<text>The fossil energy reservation decreases day by day, this situation impacted to the energy crises especially fuel energy which is increasing in the price on over the world. The scientists/researchers are trying to develop the renewable energy (renewable fuel) as the energy alternative, one of these called biodiesel. Taking the benefit from Jatropha curcas’ seed as raw material for the fuel is one of the alternative ways to reduce the fuel demand and also can save the countries’ foreign exchange. J. curcas’ oil is renewable fuel and non edible oil, so that it will not compete with oil consumption, such as palm oil, corn oil, etc. The combination between Naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) (1- 2 ppm) and Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP) (0,5 and 1 ppm) for micro propagation of Castrol oil plant (Jatropha curcas L.) was tried to induce the callus formation by using the meristem shoot as the explants. The result showed that the combination of NAA 1.5 ppm and BAP 0,5 ppm gave the best result for the callus formation.</text>

<text>This study aimed to observe the influence of two sources of juvenile tiger grouper Epinephelus fuscoguttatus (Forsskål, 1775) from the sea and the hatchery by several types of food (pellets, tilapia & anchovies). Growing Studies were carried out above 9600 juvenile tiger grouper from two sources namely differing from the sea of 4800 juvenile and 4800 juvenile hatchery from hatching. The design of treament were done by 2x3 with four replications. During the 30 day rearing period, each 5 days is taken sampling total body length (cm) juvenile tiger grouper. The results showed that during the rearing period the value of marine juvenile grouper only high growth in juvenile ate anchovies and tilapia except on day 5 and 30, and could not adapt to the food from the pellet. While in hatchery juvenile tiger grouper had high growth to consume pellets only and could not adapt well to the food of tilapia and except anchovies on day 15th.</text>

<text>Muntjak (Muntiacus muntjak muntjak) belongs to Cervidae family which distributed in Java Island and Southern part of Sumatera. This cervid has been protected by Indonesian Government since 1999. In order to support breeding program of the species and to avoid them from extinction, itsreproductive biology such as spermatogenesis and the correlation to semen quality is important to be investigated. Therefore, the objective of this study was to examine spermatogenesis and semen quality of two adult male muntjaks during antler growth periods that consist of hard antler (H), casting (C), andvelvet antler (V). Testicular tissues and semen (ejaculates) were obtained by core needle biopsy and electroejaculation methods respectively. Testicular tissues were processed histologically and stained with periodic acid Schiff (PAS) to observe spermatogenesis whereas semen was evaluated to obtaine itsquality. The results showed that spermatogenic activities were detected in all antler periods which marked by PAS positive staining (magenta colour) of round and elongated spermatid acrosomes. In H period, spermatogenic activity was higher than those C and V periods. According to semen evaluation, motile spermatozoa were found with different concentration in all antler periods. The highest sperm concentration (x 106 spermatozoa/ml) in both of muntjaks was found in H period (506.25 ± 61.87), and slightly decreased in C (288.75 ± 37.12), and V periods (362.60 ± 17.68). These finding showed thatspermatogenesis to produce spermatozoa is taken place while muntjaks are in C and V periods with differ activities that provable with the existence of motile spermatozoa from ejaculates in both of male muntjaks. Therefore, muntjaks could provide reproductive function throughout the year of reproductiveaseasonality which is similar to the reeves and formosan muntjaks</text>

<text>The purpose of this study is to explore the barriers that have an impact on the adherence to therapeutic regimen among Type II diabetics in Iligan City. Specifically, it attempted to evaluate if there’s a significant relationship among the patients’ length of diagnosis, blood sugar level, awareness of the disease, their relationship towards their doctors and the availability and accessibility to healthcare services as to their adherence to therapeutic regimen in terms of their medication, diet, exercise, lifestyle and stress reduction techniques. It also tried to examine if the patients’ profiles (age, gender, religion, civil status, educational attainment, work status, family monthly income, social support system and clinic) can influence their therapeutic regimen adherence. This study used the Descriptive Survey Method. 10 self-structured questionnaires derived from published questionnaires were given to 56 Type II diagnosed diabetes mellitus patients in the private and public clinics of Iligan City, selected through random sampling technique. Data generated by the questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlations. Results from thesurvey showed that the patients’ accessibility to healthcare services and their social support system largely affect their medication adherence. Female and working patients are more diligent in taking their medication. Patients having their consultation in the public clinic and those with lower blood glucose level prove to have a better performance in lifestyle modification. Patients who are married, working, and who are more aware about their disease showed to be more effective in reducing stress than the other patients. Patients in thepublic clinic exercise more than those in the private clinics. Finally, the frequency in which the patients were doing exercise is greatly affected on how efficient their healthcare providers are</text>

<text>Two potential substrates namely rice bran and unprocessed brown rice indicated positive result of lovastatin existence. Aspergillus niger SAR I, our local isolated fungus, took a responsibility to cooperate with those substrates in SSF system. Further experiment including initial profile production, effect of physical parameters (temperature, inoculum size and substrate quantity) and final profile production, were carried out. For initial profile, a basic condition of SSF which consisted 70% (v/w) of moisture content (adjusted to pH 6.0), 5 g substrates mixture (ungrounded size), 1x107 spore/ml of inoculum size and incubation temperature at 30±2 0C, was conducted in a flask system and fermented for 7 days. Those conditions allowed 160.03±3.79 mg lovastatin/g dry substrate of lovastatin production during initial stage. After a study of effect of physical parameters, it showed that the optimum temperature was still at ambient temperature (30±2 0C) and substrate quantity of 5 g but different inoculum size (1x105 spore/ml). Each parameters specifically temperature, inoculum size and substrate quantity produced 253.98±5.92 mg lovastatin/g dry substrate, 297.64±0.56 mg lovastatin/g dry substrate and 298.72±44.12 mg lovastatin/g dry substrate, respectively. Throughout the final profile, the production was 305.08±14.15 mg lovastatin/g dry substrate which made the total increment hit to almost 91%. In this experiment, lovastatin was subjected into high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with acetonitrile and phosphoric acid (pH 3.0) as a mobile phase.</text>

Survey of 10 indicators of science and technologyculture conducted to 467 high school students in Indonesia and 784 students in Malaysia. Based on 10 indicators, developed an instruments of Likert attitude scale and a multiple choice tests as a basis for indicators of science and technology culture. The survey results showed that students SM Malaysia andIndonesia have the same ability and views about; Knowledge of Science and Technology Basic, Understanding the limitations of human reason, and understanding of science and technology indicators, and the student chooses more amenable Science and Technology activities conducted outside school hours. Overall, the profiles of Science and Technology culture among students SM SM Indonesia Malaysia and there is no significant difference at the 1% significance level (t = 0:04). Based on the interpretation of the scalesuggested by Green & Akey, the results of this study showed that the culture of Science and Technology indicators proposed in this study include both categories, namely 0.75 (high) Indonesian and 0.74 (high) Malaysian. Therefore it can be said that Malaysian and Indonesian students have a positive attitude towards Science and Technology. In the context of the Science and Technology Education, the results of this study provide some indicators that can be used as learning objectives in the curriculum of Science and Technology in the Secondary School</text>

<text>Monitoring of physiological stress in wild and/or endangered animals living in their natural habitat can be generated via measuring faecal glucocorticoid metabolites (FGCMs) through enzyme immunoassay technique. However, a careful validation of each enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) and methodological issues such as samples preservation, and extraction procedures must be a significant concern and validated because it may influence FGCMs levels. In this present study, the aim was to carry out a biological validation to find reliable EIAs that could be used for non-invasive measurement of glucocorticoid levels in crested macaques. Moreover, we compared three different techniques of preservation: lyophilisation, oven drying and field extraction and three different solvents for extraction: 80% methanol, 90% pure ethanol and 90% commercial alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) to find the simple and practical techniques for sample processing. For hormone analysis, we colIected 189 faecal samples from wild crested macaques living in the Tangkoko-Batuangus Nature Reserve, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The results show that biological validation can be used to validate measurement of faecal glucocorticoid which 3α,11β-dihydroxy-etiocholanolone was the most reliable EIAsfor this species. Different preservation and solvent extraction were not significantly influenced levels of FGCMs (p>0.05). In conclusion, Our study highlights the importance of biological validation of FGCMassays and presents practical techniques for the non-invasive monitoring of physiological stress in crested macaques.</text>
