<text>This study deals with the utilizing of supercritical CO2 for recycling of rare metals(i.e. Pt, Pd, Rh) from spent materials. Experiments were conducted at the temperature range of 40-60°C and a pressure up to 30 MPa. A variety of ligands such as tributyl phosphate and acetyl acetone were introduced. The mechanism of complex formation of chelating ligand and rare metals in supercritical CO2 was presented. It has been observed that the extraction efficiency of rare metals was strongly dependent on temperature, pressure and the nature of the ligand</text>

<text>Recently, latex price has continuously increased, This motivates rubber smallholders in southern Thailand to increase latex productivity. Then, ethylene stimulation has been introduced in tapping systems. Therefore, it needs to be tested before recommendation to the smallholder. An experiment was established at Thepa Research Station, Songkhla province. Rubber clone RRIM 600 (20 year-old) was used in the experiment. The experiment was designed as one-tree-plot design with 20 replicates. There was 6 treatments: 1) 1/3S 2d/3 (C), 2) 1/8S 1d/3, 3)1/8S 1d/3 + RRIMFLOW (RF), 4)1/8S 1d/3 + LET (LET), 5) 1/8S 1d/3 + Double Tex (DT) and 6) 1/8S 1d/3 + Ethyphon 5% (E). The experimental period was during June 2010 to February 2011. It was found that the RF treatment provided the highest rubber productivity (137.7 g/tree/tapping and 5.9 kg/tree/year), and it was significantly different from the remaining treatments. According to latex diagnosis, sucrose in the RF treatment trended to decrease, but inorganic phosphate and thiol trended to increase.</text>

Someefforts byobservationandexamination ofthe number ofmicrobial contaminationon beefin three wet marketswere considered important to assessthe extent ofmicrobial contamination compared with thethresholdset by theIndonesiangovernment throughthe NationalStandards. The results ofbeef sample examinationand assessmentby theVeterinary PublicHealth Laboratoryof the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Syiah Kuala University on thenumber ofmicrobial contamination of Total Plate Count (TPC) from the wet markets ofLambaro(Aceh BesarDistrict), the Sigli(PidieDistrict), and Meureudu(PidieJaya District) showed thatmicrobial contaminationis belowthe threshold setSNI-3932-2008. In general, the results showed that the qualityof food productsof animal origin, particularly beeffrom wet marketsinthreedistricts, have levels of contamination that arestill reasonable. Nevertheless, goodhygiene andsanitationsupervisionofpre-productionto distributionandcirculation of supervision should be maintained.</text>

<text>This paper presents the results obtained from the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to modelling the crosswind effect on a turbulent non-premixed flame. A pre-processor software GAMBIT was employed to set up the configuration, discretisation, and boundary conditions of the flame being investigated. The commercial software Fluent 6.3 was used to perform the calculations of flow and mixing fields as well as combustion. Standard k-ε and eddy dissipation models were selected as solvers for the representation of the turbulence and combustion, respectively. The results of all calculations are presented in the forms of contour profiles. During the investigation, the treatment was performed by setting a constant velocity of fuel at 20 m/s with varied cross-wind velocity and by keeping the cross-wind velocity constant at 1.1 m/s with varied fuel velocity. The results of the investigation showed that the standard k-ε turbulence model in conjunction with Eddy Dissipation Model representing the combustion was capable of producing reliable phenomena of the flow field and reactive scalars field in the turbulent non-premixed flame being investigated. Other results of the investigation showed that increasing the velocity of the crosswind, when the fuel velocity was kept constant, significantly affected the flow field, temperature and species concentrations in the flare flame. On the other hand, when the velocity of the fuel was varied at the constant crosswind velocity, the increasing velocity of the fuel gave positive impact as it enabled to counteract the effect of crosswind on the flare flame</text>

<text>Currently, a common method for identifying a person is by means of an identitycard (ID) or combination of an ID and password. The approaches are not very reliable, since the ID can be stolen and password can be forgotten. A more reliable identification system is required. In the last decades, identification systems based on biometrics have been gaining attention, since they are more reliable. Biometrics-based devices identify people based on their physical or psychological characteristics, such as palmprints, fingerprints, gait and iris. Unlike fingerprints or palmprints, irides features distribute randomly, and the features were unique; the features between right and left eyes aredifferent, as well as between twins. Therefore, in addition to reliability, the use of irides can enhance identification accuracy. Purpose of the paper was to improve identification rate of an iris identification method, using ordinal measure of Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) coefficient. The input iris image was tiled into blocks of 8x8 pixels, then the DCT was applied to each blocks. The AC coefficients of each block were sorted from the smallest to the largest values, in which the sorted values were referred to as ordinal measures.Identification was accomplished by measuring a distance between the ordinal measure of the input images with the ones of the existing images in the database using Minkwoski distance metric. Proposed method increased the averaged identification rate as compared to the previous method by nearly twice from 33% to 61.4%.</text>

<text>This study was specified in documenting Mimosa reaction in the state of defoliation on the plants. As defoliation was believed to cause plants experiencing both positive and/or negative effects on its growth performance, thus among the aim of this study is to monitor the emergence of foliar buds in respond with vary level of defoliation intensities. The seedlings were grown singly in polybags up to four leaf stage as. Grown seedlings were randomly subjected under four different defoliation intensities: control (un-defoliated), 25%, 50%, and 100% in which 10 replicates of seedling for each treatment. Experiment was ceased at the 6th month after establishment of plants grew. Results shown that, the effect of defoliation on the production of foliar buds was significantly difference between the treatments (P< 0.05). As compared with 25%, 50% and 100% defoliation, un-defoliated plants showed the highest amount of foliar buds production which is 14 buds. While, there were no differences amount of foliar buds production between 25% and 50% defoliation with 5 foliar buds per plants. Emergence of foliar buds was reportedly lowest in 100% defoliation plant when there were no sign of buds emergence. Results concluded that, the subjected plants of control, 25% and 50% leaves defoliation treatments, were able to performed tolerance effect relative to the induced stressor. Apart from that, experiment revealed that the 100% defoliation has probability of detrimental effect on growth and reproduction of Mimosa seedling as it hindrance the germination of foliar buds.</text>

<text>The new method for determining ground-motion parameters in the next edition of the Indonesian Earthquake Resistant Building Code SNI 03-1726-X, which will be issued in this year, has significant changes than the old code. The major changes in SNI 03-1726-X are using Risk-Targeted Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCER) Spectral Response Acceleration maps. These maps developed by Team for Revision of Seismic Hazard Maps of Indonesia were based on probabilistic approach for 2% probability of exceedance in 50 years and deterministic approach by using three-dimensional seismic source models and by considering latest geological and seismological data and fragility curve of buildings. For building design, it has been decided that ASCE 7-10 will be adopted for coming code SNI 03-1725-X. The design philosophy adopted from ASCE 07-10 standard contains a significant addition consisting of a constant-displacement segment of the design response spectrum. This paper presents the proposed parameter TL developed by the author and Disaster Mitigation Research Center ITB (Pusat Penelitian Mitigasi Bencana ITB) to provide more realistic estimates of the ground motions at periods T > 4 sec by consisting a constant-displacement segment.</text>

<text>The recent increase in drug-resistance bacteria has become a very serious threat to the treatment of infectious diseases. Over recent decades, a growing numbers of literatures have validated the application of bacteriophages for therapy against antibiotic-resistance bacteria. With rapid dissemination of these resistant bacteria pathogens, the interest in alternative remedies to antibiotics using bacteriophages therapy is gaining new ground. Based on the recent studies of bacteriophage applications against bacterial infections in countries where this alternative therapy has been approved, many scientists and companies believed that phages have the ability to treat and prevent diseases caused by bacteria. Malaysia, being well known as one of the mega diverse countries could promise the potential new phages that could be applied in phage therapy. The overall objectives of this research including isolation and purification of potentially new phages from environments, characterization of the isolated phages based on morphological study, physicochemical attributes, genomic and proteomic analysis. Lastly, the isolated phages would be developed into phage therapy against bacterial infection through in vitro and in vivo test. Preliminary results presented here, show a total of four phages were successfully isolated from human waste. Two of the phages were successfully isolated infecting Proteus mirabilis that caused urinary tract infection in human whereas another two phages infecting Escherichia coli 0157:H7 (caused food-borne diseases) and Escherichia coli ATCC 13706, respectively.</text>

<text>Nurse scheduling problem is one of the most difficult scheduling problems to solve since its solution space is large and it expects to comply many constraints. There is no standard model or a method of solution for nurse scheduling. The main objective of this study is to search for a scientific method to prepare a monthly working schedule for a group of nursing officers employed in a hospital. We propose an optimization method to prepare an optimal schedule. Initially, we develop an optimization model by formulating the objective and the constraints of the problem. The optimization model that we are interestedin is a 0-1 Integer Linear Programming problem. We apply the Branch-and-Bound technique to solve the problem using the optimization software package LINGO. Finally, the solution to the optimization problem is formulated to a regular nurse schedule. The methodology is illustrated by preparing a monthly schedule for a private hospital in Sri Lanka.</text>
