<text>Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is one species of the vegetation that produces essential oil known as patchouli oil. The quantity of patchouli alcohol contained in patchouli oil determines the oil quality. This study investigates fractional distillation of patchouli oils (Pogostemon cablin) to increase the level of patchouli alcohol in patchouli oils. The separation process is carried out by fractional distillation method applying four fractionation temperatures: 120°C, 125°C, 130°C, and 135°C. The compositions of each fraction were identified using Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Patchouli oil A and B with initial patchouli alcohol content of 27.03% and 36.87% were successfully fractionated resulting four fractions of patchouli oils. The final levels of patchouli alcohol are increased to become 35.35% and 43.62%, respectively as well as the densities of the four fractions</text>

<text>The term mangrove may refer to an ecosystem or individual plants where the distribution of woody plants usually influenced by climate, water salinity, tides, type of soil in the mangrove swamps and environmental activities including development, housing and industrial. Thus only a certain species that can survive under this extreme condition. A study had been conducted in Byram Permanent Mangrove Forest Reserve to provide baseline information on the distribution pattern of plant growth in mangrove area. The main objective of this study is to determine the composition and the distribution pattern of true-mangrove woody plant species. To assess the species composition, the forest reserve nearest to the sea, which run approximately 2.0 km, parallel to the sea, was divided into three main sections (i.e. 600 m each section with a minimum 50 m wide border between the sections). Species enumeration was conducted in 11 plots, where each plot size is 10m x 10m. In general these plots were established in random stratified manner, from the sea towards the terrestrial part of the mangrove forest. In total, we recorded 290 of individual woody plants. The most abundant species in term of occurrences within all zones and forest section is Bruguiera parvifolia.</text>

<text>The performance of road safety in Sudan has generally deteriorated over the last few years as accident rates have witnessed a tremendous increase. The number of road accidents was 23850 in 2001 rising to a total of 38515 in 2005, then to 61428 accidents in 2010. The 2010 fatality rate of 38 per 10,000 registered vehicles is very high compared to Arab, developing and developed countries. This paper reviews the magnitude, trends and characteristics of road traffic accidents in Sudan in order to provide a better understanding of the road safety trauma. It discusses the future trends and challenges which are expected to have significant bearing on both short and long-term traffic safety development. Finally short term remedial measures and long term National Road Safety Strategy are presented and recommended for implementation.</text>

<text>Three elements in platinum group elements (PGE) which are platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd) and rhodium (Rh) are widely used in vehicle exhaust as catalyst in changing material and toxic gases such as CO, HC and NOx. However, the release of vehicle exhaust emission has increased the content of platinum group elements in the environment including dust, soil, water and grasses and sediments. The research aimed to determine the PGE content in grass and soil and to determine the concentration of Pt, Pd and Rh metals obtained in samples. The research was done at 4 station at UKM Engineering Lake, Malaysia. Analysis was done using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). Result of the research showed that Rh metal was present at grass and soil sample. The Rh metal concentration in grass sample is between 1. 770 µg/g to 15.225 µg/g and in soil sample is between 2.347  µg/g to 9.579  µg/g. Pt and Pd were not detected in all samples and all stations. There are 80 other elements detected in the analysis. However, only four elements were taken into consideration which were Cu, Zn, Ni and Pb Since these elements were originated from vehicles activities. Their presence showed that Rh metal detected was from catalyzed changer in vehicles</text>

As a result, early sowings (14th March) along with moderate-to-high N fertilizer (100-150 kgha-1) led to highest yields. Significant positive associations found between agronomic and biochemical; oil percentage and Linoleic fatty acids. Path coefficients analysis revealed interestingly that Capsule number and primary branch per plant, plant height and 1000-seed weight had the most positive direct effects on seed yield. According to PCA, first two traits, along with height and 1000-seed weight, oleic and Linoleic acids and dry weight had the most contributions, interpreting almost all the variation. Thus, to  simultaneous  breeding  of high  oil and yielding  flax varieties, capsule number per plant, primary branch per plant, plant height and 1000-seed weight should firstly be considered followed by oleic and Linoleic fatty acids</text>

<text>Anaplasmosis, also known as yellow fever, is an infectious parasitic disease of cattle caused by the protozoan Anaplasma marginale. Anaplasma marginale infects the erythrocytes and causes severe anaemia, weakness, loss of appetite, fever, depression, abortion, decreased milk production, constipation, jaundice and sometimes death. In Malaysia, data on A. marginale infection is still behind compared to other parasites such as nematodes. Anaplasmosis in livestock has received little attention in Malaysia with only occasional reports in cattle. In addition, the determinants of tick- and fly-borne transmission are not well understood. Looking into this possibility, this study was carried out to investigate and to compare the prevalence rate of bovine anaplasmosis in Malaysia. A seroprevalence study on bovine anaplasmosis was conducted at the Veterinary Research Institute, Malaysia. Sera of various cattle breeds were collected from farms and abattoirs to be tested for the presence of A. marginale. Competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (c-ELISA) Anaplasma antibody test kits by VMRD, Inc. were used for this study, where antibodies to A. marginale from sample sera inhibit the binding of horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-labelled monoclonal antibody to the Anaplasma antigen coated on the plastic wells. A total number of 267 serum samples were tested and 79.4% were positive for bovine anaplasmosis. Results showed that the infection percentage is 100% in Pahang while the state with lowest infection percentage is Sabah with 59.2%. A comparison is done between Peninsular Malaysia with Sabah and Sarawak. The infection percentage in Peninsular Malaysia is higher at 87% while Sabah and Sarawak has an infection percentage of 60%. However, there is no significant difference in the rate of infections. The high number of cases in Peninsular Malaysia may be caused by the lack of strict control measures due to dependence on modern tools and drugs, while cases in Sabah and Sarawak may be due to traditional practices carried out frequently that may cause iatrogenic transmission. More samples should be obtained in order to validate the results. In addition, annual studies must be done to monitor the status of A. marginale prevalence in local cattle that is medically and economically significant to Malaysia.</text>

<text>This research was aimed at determing the effect of fish bone gelatin supplementation on protein content and consumer acceptability of rice-based traditional foods. Three types of traditional foods, i.e. dange, surabeng andonde-onde were supplemented with fish bone gelatin at concentrations of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% (w/w) with three replicates for each treatment and for each type of foods. The protein contents were analyzed using micro-kjeldahlmethod whereas the consumer acceptability was determined organoleptically by employing 15 panelists. Data on the protein contents were subjected to ne-way Annova, while those of consumer acceptability were analyzed descriptively using percentage of frequency of occurrence. Results indicated that addition of fish bone gelatin significantly increased the protein contents of the foods and that the protein content of each type of foods was differ between the gelatin concentration treatments. The protein contents of foods were increased by 1.68-4.77 folds, and may be predicted using a simple regression formula: Y=0.578x + 6.037, R2=0.978 for dange; Y=0.660x + 4.068, R2=0.992 for surabeng; and Y=0.554x +5.39, R2=0.967 for onde-onde. The level of consumer acceptability showed that the addition of 10% of fish bone gelatin into each of the three traditional foods produced food products with good acceptability levels.</text>

<text>This paper describes about indigenous knowledge and practice of smallholder farmers in Kisar island relate to rain forecasting through observing the Pleiades stars or the seven sisters stars. We reflected from a project on incorporating farmers’ indigenous knowledge into sustainable agriculture development in small islands context and four times visits in Kisar island (1999-2011). Critical question raised is to what extent the knowledge is valid and relevance. The notion of the study was a phenomenological study. A phenomenological analysis is purely description of an immediate lived experience and an expression of its meaning (Berger and Luckman, 1976; van Manen, 1990). Rationality in phenomenology is justified by an understanding of the essence of such experience rather than just causal explanation. It recognizes the important of the context and the individual construction of perception and meaning in that context. Snowball technique was applied to find the respondents or indigenousknowledge holders. Data analysis was conducted descriptively using Ethnograph v.6. The results showed that the farmers forecast the rainfall by observing the onzet and the appearance of the Pleiades stars or the seven sisters and gauging the size and the brightness of the seventh sister of the Pleiades to predictthe characteristics of the rainfall. Brighter shine and bigger appearance means more rain will come; diming and small means less rain</text>

<text>This study was purposed to evaluate the success of vaginal deliveries after cesarean (VBAC). This case-series-study was conducted in Zainoel Abidin and Ibu dan Anak  Hospital, as referral and teaching Hospitals, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Syiah Kuala, Banda Aceh, from January until October 2011 with descriptive analytic method. The outcomes were the success of VBAC. There were 50 subjects attempted VBAC. From 50 subjects who attempted VBAC, 45 subjects (90%) were succeed in vaginal delivery, 5 subjects (10%) were unsuccessful and had to undergo emergency C-Section. The parameters which were likely to contribute to the success of vaginal delivery in subjects who attempted VBAC were gestational age less than 40 weeks, the progress of cervical dilatation of less than 1 cm in 60 minutes, more ripened cervix on the labor. Parameters such as lower baby’s weight and history of vaginal delivery also result in the success of VBAC. Gestational age, Bishop score, and the progress of cervical dilatation contributed to higher success of VBAC. </text>

<text>The integrity of electrical power equipment is of paramount importance when itsupplies electricity throughout a facility. However, the reliability of the equipments will degraded after sometime, and appropriate maintenance has to be taken accordingly to avoid future faults. Infrared thermography (IRT) image analysis is a commonly used technique for diagnosing the reliability of electrical equipments. Conventionally, the analysis of infrared image is done manually and takes very long time for further analysis. This paper proposes an automatic thermal fault detection and classification system for evaluating thecondition of electrical equipment by analyzing its infrared image. First, the image is segmented to find the target region of interest (ROI). The detected regions which have the same region properties are grouped together in order to remove the unwanted regions. Finally, statistical features from each detected region are extracted and classified using the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm. The thermal condition of electrical equipments is evaluated based on qualitative measurement technique. The experimental result shows that the proposed system can detect and classify the thermal condition of electrical equipments.</text>
