<text>The quality of Indonesian patchouli oil is commonly lower than that required by standard (substandard). The quality of patchouli oil is determined by the level of an organic compound known as patchouli alcohol (PA). This research is aimed to study the influence of the initial level of patchouli alcohol in patchouli oil to the final oil quality after being separated by vacuum distillation fraction method. The patchouli oils used had three different initial level of patchouli alcohol (31.11%, 32.83% and 33.61%). The results show that the increments of the initial level of patchouli alcohol tend to lower the final concentrations of this compound in the patchouli oil. The oil with 31.11% of initial patchouli alcohol contained 49.07% PA after distillation, the initial PA of 32.83% became 42.87% and the oil with the highest initial PA (33.61%) consisted only 32.85% PA in its final quality.</text>

<text>The aim of this study was to evaluate the antifungal properties of cassava edible film incorporated with lemongrass essential oil against two strains of fungal, Trichoderma sp and Penicillium sp. Edible films were prepared from a mixture of cassava starch and glycerol. Lemongrass oil (0.5%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% w/w) was added to edible films as natural antifungal agent. The agar disc diffusion method was used to determine the antifungal activity of cassava starch edible film. Antifungal behaviour was determined by the mold absences upon the film and by the inhibition zone formed. The experimental results showed that Trichoderma sp and Penicillium sp was not appear above the film until the fourth day. However, cassava starch edible films containing lemongrass oil did form any inhibition zone toward both of fungal</text>

<text>. The effect of picloram concentrations and three explants types on cacao somatic embryogenesis was studied. The objective of this work was to evaluate a procedure for somatic embryogenesis of cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) Aceh clones. Somatic embryogenesis was induced using floral tissue explants (petal, staminode, and anther) on North Aceh cacao genotype. No growth was observed on petal types of explants on low concentrations of picloram. Depending on the explants, the percentage of explants producing one or more embryos ranged from 3% to 75%, 5% to 80%, and 10% to 90% on media containing 3 mg/l, 4 mg/l, and 5 mg/l picloram respectively. Staminode explants produced 3 to 10 times more somatic embryos than petals, while anthers produced 2 to 5 times. Secondary embryos were induced from the floral explants of the North Aceh cacao genotype that exhibited efficient primary embryogenesis. Percentage embryogenesis generally increased with culture time</text>

<text>The present study attempts to assess the population structure and phylogenetics of the commercially important local black scar oyster, Crassostrea iredalei (Faustino 1932) from wild and cultured populations. We analyzed the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence variation in 581 base pairs (bp) of the cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene among 141 individuals from eight localities within Peninsular Malaysia. The population genetics data showed a low within population nucleotide diversity, π (0.001 – 0.003) and the total haplotype diversity, h was moderate (0.417 – 0.682). Minimum spanning network revealed a complex geographical distribution of the haplotypes. Phylogenetic relationships among the populations inferred by Neighbor-Joining and Maximum Parsimony algorithm failed to detect differentiation between these sites, indicating genetic homogeneity across the populations. The findings from this study will have important implications for aquaculture, management and monitoring of cultured populations as well as conservation of wild oyster species in Malaysia.</text>

<text>Benthic molluscs were sampled bimonthly from October 2010 to September 2011. Four sampling sites were selected (Teluk Bahang, Teluk Aling, Teluk Ketapang and Pantai Acheh) based on difference human activities in surrounding coastal waters of Penang National Park. Sampling activities were done starting at 200 m from the subtidal shoreline until 1200 m offshore. A total of 432 benthos samples were collected using 6’ X 6’ Ponar grab. From this study, 25 species from 21 families and 25 genera were identified. Particle size analysis was done and revealed Penang National Park coastal waters is a muddy area with more than 80% of the sediment samples diagnosed as mud. Whereas, in Teluk Bahang and Teluk Aling, the starting transects (200 m to 400 m) were consisted mixture of particle size but the proportion of particle size gradually changed to mud towards the shore. Based on Pearson’s Correlation, it was found that Nuculanidae, Megastomia sp., and Timoclea sp. showed positive correlations with sandy particles (1000 ;m-250 ;m) with r values ranging 0.88 to 0.96 at p<0.01. The density of benthic molluscs was found highest in Teluk Bahang followed by Teluk Aling, Teluk Ketapang and Pantai Acheh with overall mean value 613.6 molluscs/m2. Penang National Park coastal waters are all considered shallow as the depth never exceeding 10 m.</text>

<text>Quinone profile is well known as a useful tool for the analysis of microbial community dynamics in mixed cultures in terms of quantification, simplicity, and reproducibility. The application of quinone profile method in anaerobic digestion is to monitor and overcome instability during fermentation process. A lab-scale anaerobic digestion treating a mixture of milk cow manure (CM) and simulated food waste (FW) during start-up process at mesophilic conditions was used to monitor the change of microbial community dynamics and stability. Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) experiments using CO2 and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) was applied for extract and determination of ubiquinones (UQ) and menaquinones (MK) species. Quinone can be a helpful tool to make the link between microbial community and anaerobic digestion parameters in order to overcome digester instability during the start-up process.</text>

<text>Unreinforced Masonry (URM) wall is vulnerable in resisting horizontal load suchas wind and seismic loading. It is due to the low tensile strength of masonry, the mortar connection between the brick units. URM structures are still widely used in the world as an infill wall and commonly constructed with door and window openings. This research aimed to investigate the behaviour of URM wall with openings when horizontal load acting on it and developed load-drift relationship of the wall. The finite element (FE) method was chosen to numerically simulate the behaviour of URM with openings. In this research,ABAQUS, commercially available FE software with explicit solver was employed. In order to ensure the numerical model can accurately represent the behaviour of an URM wall, the model was validated for URM wall without openings using available experimental results. Load displacement relationship of numerical model is well agreed with experimental results. Evidence shows the same load displacement curve shape obtained from the FE model. After validating the model, parametric study conducted on URM wall with openings to investigatethe influence of area of openings and pre-compressive load on the horizontal load capacity of the wall. The result showed that the increasing of area of openings decrease the capacity of the wall in resisting horizontal loading. It is also well observed from the result that capacity of the wall increased with the increasing of pre-compressive load applied on the top of the walls.</text>

<text>As North Sumatera Province has focused on agriculture in its development, a lot of agriculture researchs need to be conducted. A research of biogas sludge ( from cattle dung) application on spinach plants was done on February until April 2012. The research’s objective were to determine chemical quality of biogas sludge as organic fertilizer, the growth response of spinach plants and the economic benefits of biogas sludge. The research was used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with seven replications and five treatments. The results showed that chemical quality of biogas sludge were as follows : N, P, K, C and pH 1.25% , 0.065, 0.097%, 27.26%, 9.02. C/N ration was 21.80. These chemical quality indicated biogas sludge can be used as good organic fertilizer. Data on average plant height, leaf number, canopy biomass and root biomass indicated that 250 ml per day biogas sludge could be an alternative of 2.5 g NPK as early fertilizer. The highest yield of five treatments was application of 250 ml biogas sludge with 2.5 g NPK at the beginning of spinach planting to the parameters plant height, canopy biomass and root biomass. Biogas sludge application on spinach plants in this research gave economic benefits as much as Rp. 205.554; which was obtained every 30 HST and R/C ratio was 2,93 means that every Rp. 1,- costs in spinach planted wil get Rp. 2,93,- revenue </text>
