<text>This paper presents the results obtained from the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to modelling the flow field of a Lapple cyclone and to optimizing the cyclone based upon its geometrical parameters. A pre-processor software GAMBIT was employed to set up the configuration, discretisation, and boundary conditions of the cyclone.  The characteristics of the cyclone being studied was 0.2 m in diameter, receiving a gas flow rate of 0.1 m3/s with a particle mass loading of 0.01 kg/m3.  A commercial CFD code FLUENT 6.2.16 was employed to simulate the flow field and particle dynamics in the cyclone. The objective of this research was to investigate the performance of a number of turbulence models on the prediction of the flow field, collection efficiency and pressure drop in the Lapple cyclone. A number of five turbulence models under Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) category, including Spallart-Allmaras, standard k-ε model, RNG k-ε model, standard k-ω model, and Reynolds Stress Model (RSM) were examined in the simulation of the flow field and particle dynamics inside the cyclone. A validation of all calculation was performed by comparing the predicted results in terms of axial and tangential velocities, efficiency and pressure drop against experimental data of a Lapple cyclone taken from literature. The results of the investigation show that out of five turbulence models being tested, the RSM presented the best predicted results. The predictions of axial and tangential velocities as well as cyclone efficiency by this model are in excellent agreement with the experimental data.  Although the pressure drop in the cyclone is under-predicted, the RSM predictions are far better than those of other model. Other turbulence models are over-predicted and under-predicted the axial and tangential velocity, respectively.  With respect to efficiency and pressure drop of the cyclone, other models are capable of following the trend of the experimental data but they failed to agree with the experimental values.  These results suggest that the RSM is the most suitable turbulence model to represent the flow field and particle dynamics inside a cyclone gas-solid separator.</text>

<text>Rotor systems have been widely used in mechanical applications in industry andeven in daily live equipments. The motion effects of the rotor in certain cases can cause discomfort to the user even can cause of failure to the system itself. Therefore the dynamic characteristic analysis of the system is very essential to be analysed in designing a rotor system. By the development of computer technology, the analysis can be straightforwardly performed through numeric method by utilizing existing computational software, i.e. MATLAB. Existing researchers have developed the algorithm to analyse the dynamiccharacteristic of Jeffcot rotor and dual rotor systems by using MATLAB. The objective of this research is to conduct further investigation in developing algorithm to predict the dynamic characteristic of a multi rotor system. The analysed rotor system consists of a rotor shaft and several disks. The analysis is conducted for a variation number of disk. The equation of motion of the system is derived based on the potential and kinetic energy of the system. Lagrange‟s equation is then applied to the equation of motion that it can be solvednumerically. Based on the equation of motion, a computational algorithm is then developed to determine the natural frequency of the rotor shaft which is the main objective of this research. The algorithm is developed and simulated in MATLAB. The simulation result is closed with theoretical analysis.</text>

<text>Photosynthesis is the fundamental basis in green plants, and the principal organ of photosynthesis is leaf. On the basis of water requirements or adaptations, as angiosperm leaves, Anthuriums require abundant soil water and relatively humid atmosphere. To identify the morphological characteristic of leaves in Anthurium, the transverses section was conducted. Two factors were tested in this experiment: 1) mist treatment (intermittent mist and control/without mist) and 2) the type of medium planting (bark and rockwool). For observation on microscopic differences, the leaves were put on the Auto Tissue Processor ROTEX and embedded the sample in a Hardener Resin (Technovit 7100), then the block-samples were sectioned in the Microtom machine at 5 um. The results of transverses section showed that the leaves of Anthurium with intermittent mist treatment, under both rock wool and bark medium thicker than control. In this experiment, the intermittent mist treatment affected the leaf structure of Anthurium andraenum. The intercellular space with connected to the outer atmosphere through the stomata was drastically increased by intermittent mist treatment which promoted transpiration, rapid gas exchange and photosynthesis.</text>

This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Tissue Culture of Dinas Pertanian of North Sumatra Province, Jl Karya Jasa No 6 Gedung Johor Medan, in May 2012 until May 2013. The initial research was callus formation followed byorganogenesis. Then, was treated by PEG, 1000, 2000 and 3000 ppm. The result indicated that increased concentration of PEG decreased the amount of leaves and number of internodes. The higher the PEG concentration, the higher the proline content of potato in vitro.</text>

<text>Seulawah Agam is an active volcano with high 1,810 m located at 5.448°N 95.658°E and close to the capital of Aceh province densely populated. Following Sumatra-Andaman earthquake 26 December 2004, Sumatra Island has increased not only seismicity but also volcanic activity. On the other hand, Sinabung volcano categorized as inactive volcano, but beyond expectations on the 3rd September 2010 experienced eruption and the closest volcanic eruption location to Seulawah Agam volcano. Meanwhile, in 1 September 2010, Seulawah Agam categorized as active volcano was alert to level 2. We cannot predict what happens in future to the Seulawah Agam volcano, but we can provide volcano hazard assessment as important step for mitigation procedure. This paper introduces numerical study for volcanic eruption and integrated with a GIS-based tool for volcanic hazard assessment VORIS (VOlcanic Risk Information System) which develop by Alicia Felpeto.  This model investigate scenario based volcanic eruption for ash fallout, PDC (pyroclastic density currents), and lava. Digital elevation model (DEM) from SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission), meteorological data from NOAA, and geological study are used in this model. In the statovolcano mountain four geothermal manifestations appeared, such as: Fumarol Simpago, crater Heutz, ground steam Ie-Jue, and hot spring Ie-Suum. In this numerical simulation, we consider the location as potential eruption vent to produce erupted material. Wind velocity data at 3rd January 2012 and 1 July 2012 above the summit is selected to represent wet and dry season condition for scenario based ash fallout. Further, the simulation show the ash fallout is possible to reach Banda Aceh and potentially disrupt flight at Sultan Iskandar Muda Air port. Lava flow simulations are only depending on topography data (DEM) and applying some parameter for maximum flow length 5 km. The Simulation resolution depend on DEM data (90m) which produce more precise then volcanic hazard map produce by Center of Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, Bandung (CVGHM) and more reasonable with topography slope of mountain at southern part and northern part. Furthermore, PDC simulations are conducted scenario for height eruption column (starting point of the flow) 20m dan 200m. The simulations show PDC can be reach longer location until Banda-Aceh Medan Highway compare then CVGHM map.  This preliminary research should be developed to apply high resolution DEM and using adequate method for estimation eruption parameters. This method will be potential to provide more precise volcano hazard assessment for others volcano in Indonesia</text>

<text>Red betel (Piper crocatum) is one of traditional medicine that has antibacterial activity. This research was conducted to determine the antibacterial activity of the methanol extract of red betle leaves against growth of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 5 treatment groups consist of red betle leaves extract with concentration 150 mg/mL, 300 mg/mL, 450 mg/mL, 600 mg/mL, and negative control (sterile water) with 4 times repetition. The methanol extract of red betle leaves was obtained by maceration technique using methanol 96% as solvent. Antibacterial activity test conducted with Kirby Bauer disc diffusion method. Data of this research were analyzed by ANOVA followed by Duncan Test. The results showed that red betel leaf extracts in concentration 150 mg/mL, 300 mg/mL, 450 mg/mL, 600 mg/mL provide average inhibition zone respectively 9,0 mm, 11,2 mm, 13,6 mm and 15,7 mm. The result showed that red betel leaf extracts in tested concentration showed antibacterial activity against MRSA. The higher concentration of extract, the greater inhibition area was formed.</text>

Nonlinearity of Boussinesq equation causes the solution is not easily determined, so the solution is approached through its linearity. This method is in the form of power series expansion up to third-order, where each term of the series is linear. Furthermore, the finding solution is compared with the solution that was found by Mohyud in previous study. The result of this comparison showed that there were similarities of the two solutions. However, differences occur in phase as modeled in the solution of each method</text>

Swab sample was obtained from metacarpal injury of P. tigris sumatrae. Swab sample was cultured to nutrient broth media using sterile cotton swabs or Pasteur pipettes, and incubated at 37°C temperature for 24 hours. Culture was spared on MacConkey media and incubated again at 37°C temperature for 24 hours. Determination of bacteria colony growth on the surface of MacConkey media based on shape, colour, surface, size, and viscosity (consistency). The bacteria colony stained with Gram staining, and tested biochemically.  The result showed that gram-negative bacteria such as Citrobacter sp., Proteus sp., Providencia sp., Pseudomonas sp.,and Salmonella sp. isolated from metacarpal injury of P. tigris sumatrae.</text>

Both of the compounds showed antibacterial activity against S. mutans, A. viscosus, and L. kaesal at the concentration of 5%, 10%, and 25%. </text>
