<text>Abstract. Granulometric study is considered as a tool to predict sediment formation process in an aquatic environment. This paper discusses brief assessment of granulometri studies on seagrass and coral reef areas in Indonesia by collecting samples at Pari Island waters. Sediment samples were taken in May 2008 near the coral reefs and seagrass area in the cluster of Pari Island waters, Seribu Islands, Jakarta. The wet sieving method was done to separate the sediment samples based on grain size. Statistical analysis i.e., mean, sorting, skewness, and kurtosis at both locations showed a considerably complex energy works on the sediment distribution in these locations. Keywords: granulometry; sediment; coral reef; seagrass Abstrak.

<text>The aim of the present study was to analyse the peel waste of Xylocarpus granatum fruits as potential source of tyrosinase inhibitors. Dried peel samples were ground to yield a powder (simplicia). Subsequently, they were extracted with organic solvents of distinct polarity levels, namely n-hexane (non-polar), chloroform (semi-polar) and methanol (polar) by use of the single-maceration method. Inhibitory effects on tyrosinase activity (monophenolase) and DOPA auto-oxidation (diphenolase) were determined in bioassays. Assays with the methanol extract revealed IC50 values of 784.87 μg mL-1 (monophenolase) and of 1176.66 μg mL-1 (diphenolase), respectively. In contrast, n-hexane and chloroform extracts showed no activity. These results indicate that the methanolic fruit peel extract contained tyrosinase-inhibiting compounds, such as flavonoids, tannins and saponins, whereas the n-hexane and chloroform extracts yielded alkaloids, steroids and triterpenoids without tyrosinase-inhibiting activity. The phenolic compounds had a strong effect on the tyrosinase enzymes, inhibiting monophenolases by 97% and diphenolases by 96%, with a positive correlation between the total phenolic content and the inhibition rate in both activities.</text>

<text>Abstract. Genetic diversity information of Gobiidae is needed as a basis for management of its culture or conservation efforts. Mean while, the stability development of the paired organs in animals is closely related to the level of their genetic diversity. In this regard, a study has been conducted to determine of bilateral symmetry characteristics of marble gobies from Jenderal Soedirman reservoir of Banjarnegara and Rawapening Swamp of Salatiga. A survey method was used with purposive sampling technique. The observed variables were abnormalities and meristic bilateral characters. The characters including the number of soft rays on pectoral fins and pelvic fins, and the number of scales on lateral lines. The results showed that both marble gobies from Jenderal Soedirman Reservoir and Rawapening Swamp did not show abnormalities. However, their bilateral meristic characters had been fluctuated, especially for pectoral fins and lateral lines; whereas pelvic fins seem to be symmetry. According to their observed bilateral symmetry characters, in general, it could be concluded that marble gobies from Jenderal Soedirman Reservoir had a better genetic diversity compare to those from Rawapening Swamp. Therefore, it can be used as local genetic resources.Key words. Bilateral symmetry character, marbel gobies, Jenderal Soedirman Reservoirs, Rawa pening Swamp</text>

<text>Abstrak. Kelompok diatom terdiri 11 spesies, yaitu; Guinardia flaccida, Rhizosolenia setigera, Navicula sp., Chaetoceros sp., Thalassionema nitzschioides, Pleurosigma normanii, Planktoniella sol, Pseudo-nitzchia brasiliana, Lauderia annulata, Socphanopysis palmeriana, Oscillatoria sp., sedangkan dari kelompok dinoflagelata terdiri dari 9 spesies, yaitu; Pyrocytis noutiluca, Dinophysis cudate., Prorocentrum lima, Alexandrium tamarence, Ceratium fusus, C. incisum, C. boehmii, Torodium teredo and Odontella sinensis.

<text>Abstract. The objective of the research is to analyze the frequency of Tropical Cyclone between 2007-2011 and to analyze Typhoon Choi-wan and Typhoon Nida. Geographical location of the research is between 30-195E, 15-180W dan 60-60N.  Tropical cyclone is a cyclonic originates from tropical oceans and is driven principally by heat transfer from the ocean. Tropical region is an area that receives more intensive solar radiation, so that sea surface temperature is relatively higher then in the pole. High sea surface temperature drive then a low pressure to form which can lead to tropical cyclone that begins with a tropical disturbance and tropical depression, tropical storms and then tropical cyclones. Frequencies of Tropical cyclone occurrences over northern hemisphere are 320 events which are higher than frequencies of tropical cyclone over southern hemisphere, i.e., 132 occasions. Tropical cyclones are analogues to Carnot heat engines. The size of the energy can be expressed as the total entropy s per unit of air mass and its mechanical energy. Carnot cycle is a closed process. During the cycle entropy is produce near sea level where the sea surface temperature is warm and it will be loss near the top of the clouds where the temperature is cold. Carnot cycle in tropical cyclones can produce mechanical energy. Typhoon Choi-wan and Nida produced mechanical energy of 14790.72 J/kg and 13297.28 J/kg, respectively. Keywords : Carnot cycle; Mechanical energy; Tropical cycloneAbstrak. Energi mekanik siklon tropis Choi-wan yaitu 14790,72 J/kg dan siklon tropis Nida yaitu 13297,28 J/kg.Kata kunci : Siklus Carnot; Energi mekanik; Siklon tropis            </text>

<text>Abstract. This study presents an economic analysis of tiger and humpback grouper at different production scales in Indonesia. The results highlight the nonviability of small scale tiger grouper, with a 5 years projected negative cumulative cash flow of – Rp. 18.102.650 and a negative net present value (NPV) of – Rp. 22.059.576. An increasing production scale of tiger grouper highlight a marginal viability for medium scale (with a 5 year projected cumulative cash flow of Rp. 198.320.673 and a positive NPV of Rp. 105.578.440; with a benefit cost ratio of 1,25; an internal rate of return (IRR) of 88%; and a payback period of 0,99 year), and an economically viable of large scale cage culture (with a 5 year projected cumulative cash of Rp. 707.746.923; a NPV of Rp.406.801.749; a benefit cost ratio of 1,33;an internal rate of return of 157%;and a payback period of 0,57 year). The economic analysis of humpback grouper atdifferent production scales highlight positive cumulative cash, a positive NPV,a benefit cost ratio higher than 2, an internal rate of return over 300% and apayback period of less than one year. A sensitivity analysis revealed thatincreased survival rate up to 80% would increase cumulative cash and NPV ofsmall scale tiger grouper cage culture. Additionally, improved profitabilityperformance was associated with decreased major production costs, increasedproduction and price of the product.</text>
