Groupers are of considerable economic value in southeast Asia. Cage culture is considered as the proper technology to maximize the sustainable biomass production in a unit area. This research assesses a site selection approach for net-cage grouper mariculture in the eastern coastal area of Simeulue Island, namely Sambai, Kuta Batu and Pulau Bengkalak. Data collection focused on 7 biophysical site capability parameters i.e.: current flow, temperature, water clarity, bottom depth, pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen. Suitability analysis identified all stations was categorized as a very appropriate and appropriate conditions for the fish cage location. Keywords: grouper; mariculture; fish cage; SimeulueAbstrak.

<text>Abstract. Risk assesment of a habitat and its mappingis considerably important in environment appraisal. Biawak Island is a conservation and touristic area, one of its purpose is to bring positive influence to marine resource, both ecologically and economically. Biawak Island is inhibited by coral reefs, where human activities often occurs. Field survey was held during February 2013 in Biawak Island. The observation purpose was to assess coral reef risk in the islandby comparing three marine activities: fishing, diving, and snorkeling. Spatial modelling showed that every coral reef area in Biawak Island had high risk level, especially the southern part. Euclidean calculation result indicated that fishery had been the most influential activity toward coral reef habitat in Biawak Island.Keyword: Biawak Island; Coral reef; Risk assessment.

<text>Abstract. Karang Makassar is known as Manta point which is located in the Komodo National Park, Indonesia. This location is one of the habitat for manta ray. This research was conducted to find out the relationship between the appereance of manta ray with lunar pattern and tidal cycle. Observation data was collected from September to October 2012. Photo ID method was used to assess the number of manta ray appeareance. Lunar pattern data was obtained from USNO NAVY database, and tidal cycle was obtained from WX Tide Prediction Server. The result shows that from 20 dives, the highest average number of manta rays appearance was during full moon by 9,8 individual per dive. Meanwhile, during half moon and new moon were only 3 individual appearances per dive. On the other hand, based on tidal cycle, the highest manta rays appeareance was found during rising by 6,5 individual per dive, on falling by 4,4 individual per dive, and the lowest on slack by 3,4 individual per dive. We suggest that the best time for seeing manta rays in this location is during full moon and raising time. Keywords: Manta rays; Lunar patterns; Tidal cycle; National Komodo Park Abstrak. Perairan Karang Makassar, dikenal sebagai Manta Point yang berada di Taman Nasional (T.N.) Komodo, Indonesia.

<text>Abstract. The objective of the present study was to examine the water quality and macrozoobenthos community of Belumai, North Sumatra. The study was conducted from March to May 2013 at three sampling locations for three times sampling with one month interval. The water quality parameters which recorded in the study was temperature, current velocity, stream width, depth, turbidity, pH, DO, COD, TOM. The results shows that the Belumai River has a high turbidity level (163.57 - 242.6 NTU) and COD have passed the threshold standard class 1, which is intended to standards drinking water. The dominant macrozoobenthos was the Oligochaeta (79%). The Agglomerative Hierarchical Clustering (AHC) is displaying 2 group where the group A (station 1) has a fairly good water conditions characterized by the presence of organisms that are facultative i.e. Gastropoda, while group B (station 2,3, and 4) was considered as polluted areas indicating by the present of a dominant macrocoobenthos fauna of Oligochaeta. The Oligocheata is a tolerant fauna and as indication of pollution. Keywords: Belumai River; Water quality; Macrozoobenthic diversity Abstrak.

<text>Abstract. The Indian Ocean has an important role in the variability of aquatic ecosystems including fisheries resource. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between Mixed Layer Depth (MLD) criterion ∆T = 0.5 oC and distribution of tuna in the Eastern Indian Ocean. The study area was situated in the Eastern Indian Ocean at the coordinate 100 – 120oE dan 5 – 20oS. The data MLD criterion ∆T = 0.5 oC as well as data distribution and tuna catches which processed in the seasonal period were used in this study. Visualization result showed that the variation of MLD based on the depth value was inversely related to MLD variation based on temperature. MLD variations indicated that the depth of the shallowest MLD on the West Monsoon and deepest on the East Monsoon, while the highest temperature of MLD was recorded in Transitional Monsoon 1 and the lowest in Transitional Monsoon 2. The most widespread distribution of tuna were in Eastern Monsoon and the narrowest in Transional Monsoon 1. MLD variation relations with tuna catches have seen fairly high correlation of Pearson correlation value of 0.891 for tuna catches with depth MLD correlation and -0.927 for tuna catches correlation with temperature MLD.Keywords : Mixed Layer Depth (MLD); ∆T = 0.5 oC; Temperature; Depth; TunaAbstrak.

<text>Abstract. This study examined the selectivity of ethyl acetate extract of putat air (Barringtonia racemosa) in controlling Pomacea canaliculata compared to local catfish (Clarias batrachus). Five concentration of putat air (25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 ppm) with triplicate were tested in this study. The powder of putat air kernel was extracted through increasing the polarity of solvent, i.e. dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The mortality data were analyzed using Trimmed Spearman Karber (TSK) program version 1.5. The selectivity value was calculated based on LC50 values obtained from TSK. The results showed that (1) LC50 values of putat air's kernel extract of putat air to P. canaliculata and C. batrachus were 25.00 and 87.06 ppm, respectively, (2) the selectivity value of putat air's kernel extract as molluscicide of P. canaliculata was 3.48. <text>Abstract. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the possibility of jaloh (Salix tetrasperma) leaf powders as alternative raw material for tilapia fish feed. Four concentrations of jaloh leafe powders (0%, 5%, 10% and 15%) were examined in this study. The experimental fish were fed three times a day on 08.00AM, 12.00AM and 17.00PM. with feeding ration of 5% of body weight for 42 days. The one-way Anova test showed that the different concentrations of jaloh leaf powders gave a significantly effect on growth performance of tilapia larvae (p< 0.05), but did not give a significant effect on their survival rate (p>0.05). The Duncans test showed that the higher growth performace and survival rate were found at 5-10% of jaloh leaf powders, it was indicated that diet with 5-10% jaloh leaf powders were better than control (without jaloh leaf powders). Therefore, it is concluded that the jaloh leaf powders is suitable as alternative raws material for tilapia formulated diet at concentration of 5-10%. Key words: Protein, carbohydrate and alternative feed Abstrak.

<text>The purpose of this study was to determine the yield, chemical compositions, amino acids, minerals, and heavy metal residues (Pb, Hg) of fresh and boiled mussel. Amino acid was analyzed usingHPLC, minerals and heavy metals were examined using AAS and phosphorus by spectrophotometer, fatty acids by GC, and cholesterol by Liebermann-Buchard. The results showed that the chemical composition of water content, ash, protein and lipid of mussels meat were decreased about 6.09%, 2.25%, 1.39%, 0.42%, respectively after boiled while carbohydrate was increased 4.07% and the amino acids were decreased after boiling. The Ca, Mg, K, P, Na, Cu were declined after boiled, while Co, Fe, Mn and Zn were incraseed. In addition, the Pb was decreased after boiled while Hg and Se were not detected in both fresh and boiled mussel meat. SAFA fatty acids was 38.71% (fresh) and 37.31% (boiled), MUFA 8.13% (fresh) and 8.02% (boiled), PUFA 10.31% (fresh) and 8.77% (boiled), and the cholesterol contents were 102.57 mg/100 g of fresh and 100.97mg/100 g for boiled mussel meat.</text>
