The experiment was conducted at the experimental field of Sare, gampoeng Aceh Village, Sub-province Aceh Besar, Aceh Province, from April up to September 2009. The altitude is 445 m above sea level. Research method employed, encompassing: (1) variance analysis due to factorial split-plot random design, to observe the effect of the treatments on soil productivity as indicated by soybean plant (Gycin max L.). The design consisted of three levels of treatments of land slope as the main plots, where: k1 = 0 -5 percent (relatively flat), k2 = 6 -10 percent (rather slopy), dan k3 = 11-15 percent (slopy/critical), and six levels of treatments of traffic tillage frequency as split plots, where: l0 = no traffic, l1 = one time traffic, l2 = three times traffic, l3 =  five times traffic, l4 = seven times traffic, and l5 = nine times traffic, each at two replications, respectively; and (2) regression and correlation analysis that was used to observe the relation of  traffic tillage frequency and changes of soil physical-mechanical properties as indications of land stability and productivity changes. Data observed were: soil bulk density, total porosity,  stability index of soil aggregates, soil permeability,  moisture content, soil consistency, soil plasticity, soil cne index, soil shear strength, and land productivity indicated by yield components of soybean plant, i.e.; root length, root weight, and yield of soybean plant. Results of the research generally indicated that maximum percentage of soil physical-mechanical changes occurred in k1 to k3 at l2 was tolerable for its soil stability index was greater than 30 in which the yield of soybean – relatively low though, varied at the local level within 0.6-1.9 tonnes a hectare. Obtained from variance analysis the yield of soybean interacted significantly at l0-l5 as well as at k1-k3. Quantitatively, the results showed that the changes of  soil physical-mechanical properties as well as growth components and yield of soybean were significantly different at increasing frequency of tillage traffic and land slopes. While qualitatively, obtained from regression-correlation analysis the above indication showed polynomial relations of a reliability R2 of  0.96 to 1.00 for yield of soybean plant and stability index of soil aggregates at increasing frequency of traffic tillage of l0-l5  in the three land slopes of k1-k3.. On those two classes, the students with high and low academic ability are selected based on the result of grouping test. The instrument used is essay test on Fundamental Biology course. The research data were collected by giving test before and after treatment then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Anacova is used to test the hypothesis of differences. The research result shows that (1) the strategy of learning has an influence on the concept understanding of the students so that the integration strategy of PBL+Jigsaw has more potency to improve concept understanding of the students rather than conventional one, (2) There is no differences of understanding of concepts on high and low academic ability, (3) there is no influence of interaction between the learning strategy with academic ability toward concept understanding. Control of plant pathogenic bacteria can be performed using biological control agents. The aim of this research was to study the inhibitory ability of eight isolates of biocontrol bacteria against Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) under greenhouse conditions. Isolates of biological agents used in the study were obtained from IPB Culture Collection (IPBCC), Department of Biology, IPB and microbial gene bank collection of Indonesian Center for Agriculture Biotechnology and Genetic Resources (BB Biogen), consisting of Pseudomonas aeruginosa C32a and C32b, P. fluorescens ATCC 13525 Pf , Serratia marcescens E31, Bacillus sp. I.5, B. cereus I.21 and II.14, and B. firmus E65 isolates. The methods used in the research i.e. hypersensitivity test, antagonistic test of biocontrol bacteria to Xoo, and in vivo application of biological agents in the greenhouse condition. Hypersensitivity test on tobacco plants using C32a and C32b inoculums showed characteristics of slightly leaf yellowing but did not cause necrosis. Injection using Xoo inoculum showed necrosis on tobacco leaves. Antagonist isolates i.e. C32a, C32b, Pf, I.21, and I.5 showed inhibitory activity against Xoo, whereas others isolates did not show inhibitory activity. In greenhouse experiments IR 64 rice plants were sprayed with biological control agents (107cfu/ml) at 7 days, 14 days, 28 days, and 42 days after planting. The results showed that C32a isolate could suppress better the lesion length of BLB than that of chemical control (copper sulphate). This research aims to study the amount and duration of stage egg, nymph, imago, and the life cycle of brown plant hopper on four varieties of rice. The methods used in research was Complete Random Design  with four treatments (variety of IR 64, Batang Piaman, Cisokan, and IR 42) and eight replications. Research data were analyzed using variance analysis and continued with List Significant Different (LSD) at 5% level. The results of research showed that the number and duration of stage egg, nymph, imago, and cycle time of brown plant hopper in four rice varieties were different. Number of egg, nymph, and imago were lowest in 64 IR varieties, while the highest was IR 42 variety. Stage of eggs and nymphs were the shortest in IR 42 varieties, while the longest were IR variety 64. Imago stage was the shortest in IR 64 variety, while longest was the variety IR 42. The life cycle of brown plant hopper were shortest in IR 42 varieties, while longest was the variety IR 64. The results of this study can be concluded that the IR 64 varieties more resistant than the varieties IR 42, Cisokan, and Batang Piaman based on stage of egg, nymph, and imago. Hasil pirolisis cangkang kelapa sawit pada reaktor listrik dengan suhu 300, 400, dan 500oC diperoleh secara berturut rata-rata rendemen arang 49,17; 42,21; 36,32 (%w/w) sedangkan pada reaktor drum diperoleh rata-rata rendemen arang 38,81 (%w/w). Hasil karakterisasi arang yang dipirolisis dengan reaktor listrik pada suhu 500oC mengandung 3,67% air, sedangkan dengan reaktor drum mengandung 5,33% air. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa peralatan yang dibuat dari bahan drum bekas dengan teknologi sederhana diberi nama reaktor drum dan telah terbukti dapat efektif digunakan sebagai reactor pirolisis pada pengolahan cangkang kelapa sawit. Actinomycetes are a group of bacteria that have potential as a major producer of bioactive compounds. This study aimed to isolate and evaluate the isolates of actinomycetes collected from soil. This research was carried out in three stages, namely the field sampling, isolation of actinomycetes, screening the potential as a producer of bioactive compounds (antimicrobials). A total of 11 isolates of actinomycetes have been isolated in this study. The isolates varied in morphological characteristics. The antibacterial evaluation showed that nine isolates (81.8%) that were able to inhibit either the test organism. Three isolates of ACT-04, ACT-05, ACT-06 and ACT-11 were capable of inhibiting both bacterial targets. This research aims to synthesize kitosan resin resulted by the reaction of kitosan with etilendamin. In the present work chitosan was cross-linked with glutardialdehyde and subsequently treated with epichlorohydrine and ethylene diamine. The resins CR-amine was found to contain 22.7% water content,  and were insoluble in organic solvents as well as in mineral and organic acids. The concentration values of the active sites on the resins are reported. The higher concentration of active sites of CR-amine 6.01 mmol/g indicates that the “en” moieties are covalently bonded to the cross-linked resin. Several chemical modification methods were tried in increasing the uptake capacity of cross-linked chitosan bead. Among them, aminated chitosan beads formed through the chemical reaction using ethylenediamine showed the highest uptake capacity for gold ions. Uptake capacity of aminated chitosan beads was increased to about 0.8 mmol Au3+ g-1 dry mass compared to that before modification. The increase of amine groups was confirmed by IR spectrum and measurement of amine concentration and surface condition on aminated chitosan bead was also confirmed by  SEM.
