This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of respiratory equipment models in explaining the dangers of smoking on the students. Subjects in this study were the students who smoked in the Class IX students numbering 50 people. The method used in this study is an experiment in "Pre-test and post-test." Data were analyzed with statistical t-test formula. Results of data analysis obtained t = 13.1 (α = 0.05; db = 49) obtained t table price = 2.01, which is well known t> t table. Thus, it can be concluded that the knowledge given to students about the dangers of cigarettes and content by using the modeling tools can improve students' knowledge of Class IX SMP Negeri 13 Banda Aceh on the respiratory system and knowledge about the dangers of cigarettes. Perlu adanya upaya memperbaiki mutu pisang sale misalnya melalui peningkatan kualitas pengasapannya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji performansi alat pengasap tipe rak pada pengolahan pisang sale dengan menggunakan  bahan bakar  biomassa. Sebuah alat pengasap pisang sale dirancang dengan 2 bahagian yang masing-masing mempunyai 7 buah rak. Alat pengasap ini diuji dengan variasi 3 jenis bahan bakar yaitu kayu bakar, kayu bakau dan tempurung kelapa. Proses pengasapan dilakukan sampai kadar air maksimal 18%. Parameter analisis meliputi temperatur dan kelembaban relatif ruang pengasapan, kapasitas kerja alat, rendemen, kadar air, karbohidrat, vitamin C dan uji organoleptik terhadap karakteristik bentuk, warna, bau, rasa dan tekstur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa temperatur dan kelembaban relatif ruang pengasap ketika alat menggunakan bahan bakar tempurung lebih baik dari bahan bakar kayu. Hal ini mengakibatkan waktu yang diperlukan untuk pengasapan pisang sale dan kapasitas kerja alat ketika alat pengasap menggunakan bahan bakar tempurung kelapa juga lebih singkat yaitu 10 jam dan 4 kg/jam. Perbedaan jenis bahan bakar tidak menyebabkan terjadinya perbedaan rendemen pisang sale. Kandungan karbohidrat pisang sale mengalami peningkatan setelah proses pengasapan menjadi 8,84%, 10,18%, dan  9,45%  masing-masing menggunakan bahan bakar kayu bakar, kayu bakau dan tempurung kelapa. Sedangkan kandungan vitamin C pisang sale mengalami penurunan menjadi 7,37 mg/100g (kayu bakar), 7,458 mg/100g (kayu bakau), dan 7,194 mg/100g (tempurung kelapa). Berdasarkan uji organoleptik, pisang sale yang proses pengasapannya menggunakan bahan bakar tempurung kelapa dan kayu bakau adalah yang paling disukai bentuk, warna, bau, rasa dan teksturnya. Analisis organ yang mendominasi  akumulasi ikan dilakukan dengan cara membandingkan antara organ lain yang terakumulasi cadmium, sedangkan analisis data tentang  akumulasi logam cadmium dilakukan dengan metode AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry). Hasil diperoleh adalah organ yang terkumulasi cadmium pada hepar berkisar antara 0,0130 – 0,0336 ppm, sedangkan tingkat akumulasi logam cadmium pada otot 0,0001-0,0299 ppm, dan pada cor berkisar 0,0008-0,0252 ppm. Kesimpulan diperoleh adalah organ yang paling dominan terakumulasi logam cadmium adalah hepar yang sudah melebihi nilai ambang batas baku mutu. Hexane extract showed the strongest antibacterial activity compared with other crude extracts. While essential oil of C. viminalis  in particular showed strong anticandidal activity. The research is aimed to study the effect chitosan concentration and storage time for Total Plate Count (TPC). The study was conducted in Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Syiah Kuala University from April to August 2012. The research method was laboratory experimental.  The data was analyzed by Randomized Completely Design with two factorial. The first factor was chitosan concentration (three levels: 0%; 1%; 2%) while the second factor was storage time (four levels: 0; 2; 4; 8 weeks). The results of this study indicated that chitosan concentration was not significantly different for the Total Plate Count (p>0,05), however storage time was significantly for the Total Plate Count (p<0,05). Futhermore, the interaction chitosan concentration and storage time was significantly for the Total Plate Count (p<0,05). There were 38 students as respondents in this research. However, due to forest encroachment, the conditions of habitat at the site which is often used by elephants in the Seulawah ecosystem are changed, and including forest encroachment areas are extremely high. With the purpose to describing physically and biologically of the habitat characteristics of Sumatran elephants in the Seulawah ecosystem at Aceh Besar regency. Retrieval of data was held on 1-14 in December 2010. The parameters which used are the amount of feces found in habitat that is used by the Sumatran elephants in the Seulawah ecosystems at Aceh Besar regency. The data is collected on the track which located in the Seulawah ecosystem ata Aceh Besar regency and samples used are track with measure of  100x3m and then divided into 8 plots with distance between plots are 500m. The results showed that the Sumatran elephant selecting habitat unit with criteria (a) the slope of the ramps (0-20o), (b) close to the water source (0-250m), (c) close to the primary forest (0-500m); (d) the availability of minerals rare trees (<3 trees), (e) low-elevation land (0-400m), (f) the availability of many feed (75%), (g) closing the canopy is very rare (0-25 %), (h) the availability of body scrub trees are rare (<3 trees), and (i) the type of secondary forest. The results provide information about the factors that determine the selection of habitat by Sumatran elephants that can contribute in the management of suitable habitat for Sumatran elephants. This condition is expected to reduce elephant conflicts with the surrounding area. The population is all of students from class XI consisting of 5 classes and 184 students. Five students was taken from each class as the sample based on the result of the examination which is lower than SKBM (equivalen with 65 in Meulaboh). The data was collected by giving pretest and postest. T-test on level α= 0,05 was obtained t-score = 29,7 and t-table = 1,71. It revealed that t-score > t-table, so that the HA was accepted. The activity of the  teachers and students in learning process has done about 81,7 % and 94,6 % which was in good catagory. This study aims to extract natural dyes from bark of  Jamblang as the base material of textile dyes. The research was conducted in the laboratory of Chemistry FKIP Syiah Kuala University. The population in this study is Jamblang bark (Syzygium cumini) in Ujung Batee, Aceh Besar as much as 3 kg. A total of 500 gram sample of wet bark of jamblang sokhletasi extracted with 2500 ml of water. Water extract was concentrated by evaporator and the viscous extract obtained as many as 77.984 grams. Confirmation test results of water condensed tannins in the bark extract showed a positive presence jamblang hydrolyzed tannins. Viscous extract obtained water test conducted on fabric dyeing, paper, and wood. Dyeing process is done by soaking for 1 hour at a temperature of 100oC and followed by a fixation on the fabric color by using FeSO4, alum, and potassium bichromate for 15 minutes. Dyeing with bark extract of Jamblang give good results on fabric and paper, whereas the only stain on the wood surface is uneven. The results of dyeing the cloth with a fixation process to vary the color and fastness is good. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Pests Department of Agrotechnology Faculty of Agriculture Univerrsity of Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh from January to December 2014. The aim was to investigate the effectiveness of mixture of extract of papaya leaf and castor beans on mortality of C. pavonana mortality. The study used completely randomized design (CRD). The results showed that the mortality of larvae has reached up to 90 % and feeding inhibition  was 91.04%, decrease in the pupae stage 56.67% and imago 46.67% compared to other lower treatments.
