<text>ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to examine seed viabilities of Arabica Coffee, variety Gayo 1 which was different in color of the fruits and in size of the seeds. The study was also aimed at examining interactions between fruit color and seed size on seed viabilities. Experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications.  Factors studied were 1) fruit color consisted of three levels, namely, bright red, dark red, and yellowish green and 2) seed size consisted of large seeds, medium, small. Results showed that fruit color significantly affected germination rate, seedling growth rate, prompt germination, the time required to reach 50% germination (T50) and dry weight of normal seedlings. Seed size significantly affected germination rate, seedling growth rate, prompt germination, T50, and dry weight of normal seedlings. The best viability was found in the seeds derived from bright red fruits and small sized seeds.</text>

<text>ABSTRACT The aims of the research were to evaluate soil characteristics, to study land suitability and to propose recommendation of land use and rehabilitation of the tsunami affected agricultural area in Lhoong Sub-District. The result showed that soil textures were varied from very coarse at the area near the coastline to rather fine at the area far from the coast. The soil structures of topsoil were generally plate and blocky, and at subsoil generally massive. The quality of irrigation water in Sub District of Lhoong was still suitable for crops. The pH of water was neutral and low in salinity (0, 4 mS cm-1). The recommendations for land of class A were (1) cleaning and repairing of irrigation and drainage channel, (2) leaching of salinity in topsoil from soil profile by flooding method (irrigation basin) or furrow irrigation,  (3) making the ditches for cultivation in managing the excess of salinity, (4) establishing ditches for paddy, and (5) requiring a specified amount of water for the leaching processes and the amount of water required for crops. The recommendation for land class B were (1) cleaning and repairing of irrigation and drainage channel, (2) removing the sediment above the topsoil, (3) leaching the salt from topsoil passing soil profile  by irrigation water, (4) constructing ditches for cultivation in managing the  excess of salinity.</text>

The treatments were egg-host density (5, 10, 15, 30, and 60 eggs per pias) and temperature (18 oC, 25oC, and room temperature). The eggs of host were exposed to the parasitoid for 24 hours at the temperature tested. Then, the parasited eggs were reared at room temperature until they were darkened. The number of parasitized eggs was observed. The result of the study showed that the type of functional response of T. pretiosum on eggs of C. Cephalonica was type II. The percentage of parasitization increased with the increase of egg-host density and temperature tested.  </text>

One limited information concerning the cacao cultivation technique is seedling ages and urea dosages when transplanting. The purposes of this research were to find out the effect of seedling ages, urea dosages, and interaction between them on cacao seedling growth at nursery. Research was conducted at Experimental Station of Agriculture Faculty, University of Syiah Kuala. Units of treatment were arranged according to Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design with 4 replicates, followed by Honestly Significant Different Test at the level of 5%. Seeds were extracted from 1/3 of cacao mature fruits at the center of the pod and germinated in germination box filled with sand and covered by wet towel. Growing medium used was top soil:manure:sand=2:1:1 (by volume). Variables observed were seedling height, stem diameter, leaf number and area, primary root length, and wet and dry mass of seedling at 45, 60 75 and 90 days after transplanting. Results showed that there were significant  interactions between treatments on all variables observed. The best combination was age of 10 days of seedling and dosage of 2 g urea per polybag.</text>

<text>Effect of Leaching and Manure on Production of Wet Field Rice Chairunas Balai Pengkajian Teknologi Pertanian (BPTP) Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam  ABSTRACT The research objective was to get the appropriate technological packet of lowland rice cultivation on tsunami-affected land to increase land productivity. The research was conducted in Bireuen District of Aceh Province. Result of salinity measurement using Electro Magnetic (EM-38) tool on tsunami-affected land showed that soil salinity has decreased (ECa = 0,5 dS/m ~ Ece = 0,52 dS/m) but it was still higher than that of unaffected land.  Soil analyses showed that organic content was very low (0.97 %) and potassium was also low (0.52).  In contrast, there were very high contents of Mg (8.58 cmol/kg) and Ca (7.00 cmol/kg).  In dry season of cropping year 2005 (April-September), farmers harvested rice as much as 30-50 % of normal productivity (2.5 – 4 tons/ha).  Effort in increasing land productivity needs introduction of technological packet such as manure combined with potassium application.  In this research, manure used was from processed chicken waste in dosage of 0 and 2 tons/hectare combined with KCl fertilizer as source of potassium in dosage of 50 tons/ha and 75 tons/ha.  Basic fertilizer used were 200 kgs/ha urea and 100 kgs/ha SP36.  The research applied factorial Randomized Block Design, consisted of 8 application combinations and 3 replications.  The result showed that application of 2 tons/ha manure combined with 75 kgs/ha KCl, 200 kgs/ha urea and 100 kgs/ha SP36 and two times of leaching gave the highest rice yield (11,54 tons/ha).  The lowest yield of 8.30 tons/ha (30 % higher than average farmer yield before tsunami) was found on farmer’s application (without leaching, no manure, 200 kgs/ha urea, 100 kgs/ha Sp36 and 50 kgs/ha KCl).  </text>

<text>This study was aimed at assessing effects of mulch on soil temperature, physical properties of soil, and growth of patchouli. The experiment was conducted in Village ReuleutTimu, Sub District MuaraBatu, District Aceh Utara, from June to September 2013. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with three replicates. Types of mulching consisted of five levels i.e. without mulching, rice straw spread 10 tons ha-1, rice straw mulch spread 5 ton ha-1 + embedded 5 ton ha-1, sawdust spread 10 tons ha-1, sawdust spread 5 ton ha-1 + embedded 5 ton ha-1.The variables observed were soil temperature, bulk density, C-organic, N-total, C/N ratio, porosity of the soil, plant height, number of branches, leaf area, and dry weight of plants. Results showed that mulching resulted in lowering temperature, value of bulkdensity, and ratio of C/N soil, andincreasing levels of N-total, and improving soil porosity.  Mulching also affected plant height, number of branches, leaf area, and plant dry weight. Rice straw provided lower degree of soil temperatures than sawdust, but did not provide better of plant height, number of leaves, leaf area and dry weight of plants. Spread rice straw provided lower soil temperature and better leaf area at 60 day after planting but lesser dry weight at 75 day after plantingthan spread+embedded rice straw.</text>

<text>The objectives of the research were to determine effectiveness of antagonist T. harzianum and fungi micorrhyze in suppressing growth of Fusarium oxysporum on tomato. The research used a factorial completely randomized design, consisting of sixteen combination treatments and three replications. The first factor was doses of T. harzianum, consisting of four levels, i.e. 0, 15, 30, and 45 g.polybag-1.  The second factor was doses of micorrhyze, also consisting of four levels, i.e. 0, 5, 10, and 15 g.polybag-1. Variables observe were incubation period, length of xylem discoloration and percentage of wilting plant. The data were analyzed statistically by analysis of variance. The least significant difference test (LSD) at the 0.05 level was used to see the difference between the treatments. The results showed that applications of fungi mycorhize and T. harzianum affected growth of F. Oxysporum f sp. Lycopersici. The incubation period of F. oxysporum on tomato was longer, 20.5 days when applied with mycorrhize 15 g.polybag-1 and T. harzianum 45 g.polybag-1 compared to control 17.75 days. The length of xylem discoloration was only 2.39 cm when treated with FMA 15 g.polybag-1 compared to control 13.44 cm, while xylem discoloration was 6.56 cm when applied with T. harzianum 45 g.polybag-1 compared to control 8.65 cm. Application of mycorrhize 15 g.polybag-1 and T. harzianum 45 g.polybag-1 caused  a decreased percentage of wilting plant. The percentage of wilting plant was 35 % when treated with FMA 15 g.polybag-1 compared to control 74.28% and 42.50% when treated with T. harzianum 45 g.polybag-1 compared to control 54.64%. There was no interaction between fungi mycorrhize and T. harzianum for xylem discoloration and percentage of wilting plant.</text>
