<text>The purpose of this study was to obtain effective concentrations of leaf extracts of bitter melon in controlling Crocidolomia pavonana on mustard (Brassia juncea Linn). The experiment was conducted at Laboratory of Plant Pests and Diseases, Faculty of Agricultural Kuala University, Banda Aceh. The study took place from August to November 2010. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with six concentration of 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 ml/L solution. Each treatment was repeated 4 times to obtain 24 units of the experiment. Variables observed were mortality of larvae C. pavonana, formed pupa percentage, emerging imago percentage and feeding deterrent percentage. The results showed that application of leaf extract of M. charatia could control C. pavonana on mustard. The higher concentration of the leaf extract was given, the more effective control was against C. pavonana on mustard plant. The use of leaf extracts M. charantia in concentration of 20% was able to control C. pavonana up to 60%.</text>

<text>            The purpose of this study was to investigate effect of storage period length under low temperature on host preference and host suitability for egg parasitoid, Trichogrammatoidea armigera.  In this study, Corcyra cephalonica eggs were used as the alternative host.  The result showed that the storage of host eggs under low temperature for 1.5 to 3 hours was able to delay host egg hatching until the day 5, however, for normal host eggs the hatching time was started at day 4.  This method did not exert a negative effect on host preference and host suitability for parasitoid T. armigera.  The rate of parasitism on the stored hosts was more than 90%, and it was not significantly different from the normal host.  T. armigera progeny (offspring) emerged from the stored host was also very high (more than 100%).  The result also showed that the percentage of T. armigera female progeny emerged from stored hosts higher than the normal host.  The female progeny emerged from normal host was 51%, while from hosts stored under low temperature for 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3 hours were 69,49%, 66,03%, 66,16% and 71,10%, respectively.  The results indicated that the stored host eggs under low temperature (1– 4 oC) for 1,5 – 3,0 hours did not kill the host embryo, but only delay the hatching times.  Therefore, the availability of a sufficient number of fresh hosts could be maintained in the laboratory, so that the efficiency of mass rearing program of T. armigera parasitoid could be increased. </text>

Experimental design used was a factorial 3 x 4 with three replications. The two factors investigated were Gandasil D concentration (0 g/l, 2 g/l and 4 g/l of water), and Harmonik growth regulator concentration (0 cc/l, 1 cc/l, 2 cc/l and 3 cc/l of water).         Results showed that Gandasil D fertilizer concentration significantly affected length of egg plants and its biomass. The best result of Gandasil D fertilizer was at concentration of 2 g/ l of water. Growth regulator agent concentration showed significant effects on plant height of 30 days and 60 days.  The best concentration was  3 cc/ l of water.  There was a correlation between Gandasil D fertilizer concentration and Harmonik growth regulator on diameter and length of egg plant.  </text>

<text>Shade is one of the obstacles in the cultivation of soybean crops in intercropping systems. This study was aimed at determining the change in the characters of agronomic and morpho-physiological leaves of soybean plants due to shade. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental Farm of Agriculture Faculty, Teuku Umar University Meulaboh in West Aceh, from August to November 2013. The experiment was arranged in a split plot design with three replications, where subplot (varieties: Anjasmoro, Kipas Merah Bireun, Grobogan, Burangrang, Sinabung, Kaba) was nested in the main plot (shade: without shade, 25% and 50% shade). The results showed that the shade and varieties exerted high significant effects on changes in agronomic characters and morpho-physiological leaf variables, except 100-seed weight and ratio of chlorophyll a/b which were not affected by shade and the amount of chlorophyll b and the ratio of chlorophyll a/b not affected by varieties. Interactions between shade and varieties were highly significant on changes in agronomic characters, except variables 100-seed weight.</text>

<text>The study was aimed at determining effect of mulch type and concentration of liquid organic fertilizer Super Bionic on growth and yield of onion.  The experiment used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) 3x3 with 3 replications. There were 2 factors investigated, 1) type of mulch consisting of 3 levels: straw, burned husk, and water hyacinth and 2) concentration of organic liquid fertilizer Super Bionic consisting of 3 levels: 2 cc/L of water, 4 cc/L of water and 6 cc/L of water. The results showed that the type of mulch significantly affected the number of tubers per hill, but did not exert significant effects on plant height and number of tillers at ages 15, 30 and 45 days after planting (DAP), wet weight of tuber per hill and dry weight of tubers per hill and potential yield.  Growth and yield of onion tended to be better at water hyacinth mulch. Concentration of  liquid organic fertilizer Super Bionic significantly affected the number of tillers at age 15, 30 and 45 DAP and dry weight of tuber per hill, but did not exert significant effects on plant height at age 15, 30 and 45 DAP, the number of tubers per hill, wet weight of tuber per hill and potential yield. Better growth and yield were obtained at concentrations 2 cc/L of water. There was no significant interaction between type of mulch and concentration of liquid organic fertilizer Super Bionic.</text>

<text>Seed viability is influenced by genetic factors, seed ages, and the physical properties of the seed itself. This research was aimed at determining effects of seed storage life and scarification on seed viability of soursop. The experiment was conducted from March to May 2013 in Sumani Experimental Tropical Fruit Research Institute Solok, West Sumatra. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with four replications. The study consisted of two sets of treatments. The first was seed storage, i.e., 6 months storage and without storage and the second one was seed scarification, i.e. without scarification and scarified seeds. The results showed that the soursop seeds that were stored for six months decreased germination rate (GR) from 82.5% to 65.0% and decreased maximum growth potential (MGP) from 86.0% to 70.5% but did not decrease vigor index and seedling height. In addition, seed scarification lowered vigor index and dry weight of normal seedling. Unscarified seeds did not lower GR and this suggests that scarification by cutting the base of the seeds is not effective for soursop seed.</text>

<text>ABSTRACT The purposes of this study were to determine the resistance levels of non-irrigated rice to green bug (Nezara viridula L.) after providing bio-fertilizers and dosages of phosphorus. This research was carried out in the Experimental Farm of Research Center for Agricultural Technology (BPTP) NAD, Banda Aceh. The research applied a completely randomized factorial design with 2 treatments, i.e., 4 dosage levels of bio-fertilizers and 4 dosage levels of phosphorus. The results showed that the percentage of damaged plants, percentage of eating inhibition, and the percentage of infected spikelet showed a significant difference between treatments. The higher the dosages of bio-fertilizers and phosphorus were given, the lesser damage and the greater the eating inhibitions were recorded, and the smaller the grains were broken.</text>
