Efficiency performance of solar collectors in the process of heating the water also becomes the main focus in this study. This study was conducted with two experiments consisting of a flat plate solar collector with horizontal and flat plate solar collector with tilt angle 22o. Experiments carried out with 8 hours of testing within 6 days. Water was circulated into the collector pipe using a pump capacity of 125 Watts. From the research it is known that the amount of electrical energy required by pump for 6 days with 8 -hour time trial experiment, was about 21.6 MJ. The rate of flow of the fluid in the collector pipe is 2x10 - 5 m3/s. The plate solar collector with a slope of 22o reached the highest average temperature in the third experiment, which was about 64.7 ° C; however, the lowest average temperature was found in the horizontal collector (0o) at the third experiment, which was about 47.5 ° C. Scientific studies of asam sunti are relatively limited, while study of change on physical and chemical characteristics of asam sunti does not exist. The objective of this research was to study the change of physical characteristics of bilimbi during fermentation. This study used explorative laboratory design. Asam sunti was produced in laboratory scale with three times repetition and sample was taken three times in stages, i.e., before sun-drying and salting (stage 1), after repeated sun-drying and salting (stage 2), and fermentation for 1 month (stage 3). Parameters analyzed on physic characteristics included aw, texture and color. Significant change on physic characteristics were found during the processing of bilimbi to become asam sunti. The value of aw of the bilimbi was found to decrease after processing (sun-drying and salting) and fermentation for 1 month. Texture of the bilimbi increased at stage 2 and decreased at the last of fermentation. The colour of the bilimbi changed from green to brown after the whole processing (salting, drying and fermentation). Nowadays, sago starch has been utilized to produce various types of tradisional foods. The aim of this study was to compare the quality of rainbow cake produced by the addition of 30% sago starch and rainbow cake using 100% wheat flour and to evaluate panelist acceptance of these rainbow cakes. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two treatments and eight replications thus obtained 16 experimental units. The treatments were TS1 (100% wheat and 0%sago starch) and TS2 (70% wheat flour and 30%sago starch). The parameters observed were moisture, ash, sucrose and fat contents as well as panelist acceptance test. The results of this study indicated that rainbow cake of TS1 treatment (100% wheat flour and 0%sago starch) had no significant difference with rainbow cake of TS2 treatment (70% wheat flour and 30% sago starch) in case of ash and sucrose contents, but had significant effect on moisture and fat contents of rainbow cake. Based on the panelist acceptance test, the rainbow cake made from 70% wheat flour and sago starch 30% could be accepted by panelists similar to commercial rainbow cake. Randall and DIC method can be done quickly, while evaporation and hydro-distillation method takes longer, but the hydro-distillation method is more stable and efficient in the process of extraction of essential oils. Factorial experimental design with three replications was employed where wheat, sweet potato, sago and banana flour as one factor, and tempeh and tofu as another factor. Moisture and raw protein content of vegetarian nuggets produced in this study was in accordance with the Indonesia Standard (SNI). Moisture was less than 60 percent and raw protein was above 12 percent. The highest organoleptic test was obtained from the nugget made of the combination of sago as filler and tofu as protein source. The nugget contained 60.00, 14.89, 28.89 and 2.00 percent of moisture, raw protein, raw fat and ash content, respectively. One kind of plant that can be extracted as a source of natural dyes and contain anthocyanin is rosella petals flower. The use of solvents and acids are the factors that determine the quality and quantity of anthocyanin that extracted from rosella petals flower. Therefore in this study will be assessed the influence of the use of appropriate solvents and acids in the process of extraction of anthocyanin from rosella petals flower. Types used are varieties rosella sabdariffa. This research was conducted using Randomized Block Design Factorial consisting of 2 factors that is the type of solvent (J) consisting of ethanol and methanol, as well as the second factor which is the type of acid (P) consisting of tartaric acid, citric acid, and acid acetate. Based on the analysis it was found that the anthocyanin pigment (in red) in rosella petals flower is more stable in the acidic conditions (low pH). Type of acid (P) gives a very significant influence (P ≤ 0.01) toward pH values and significant influence (P ≤ 0.05) toward the intensity of the color. The transesterification process carried out by reacting methanol and esterified used cooking oil using KOH as catalyst. Stirring technique used is based on hydrodynamic cavitation. This research aims to study the characteristics of biodiesel that made from transesterified used cooking oil with different concentrations of methanol. The concentration of methanol used consists of 5 (five) level are: 99.9%, 95%, 90%, 80%, and 70%. The transesterification process using hydrodynamic cavitation technique with a 99.9% concentration of methanol result in biodiesel with characteristics consistent by Indonesian National Standard (SNI). In this condition, biodiesel produced 92.93% of the yield which has characteristics of acid number 0.80 mg KOH / g, total glycerol 0.045%, alkyl ester 99.45%, iodine number 14.92 g I2/100 g,  viscosity 2,35 mm2 / s , density 0.87745 g/cm3  and pH value 4.885. It is usually consumed in the form of fresh plant or after going through the process of cooking such as boiling, steaming and stirring-fry. Vegetable also contains many antioxidant components such as ascorbic acid, carotenoids, flavonoids, melanoidin, certain organic acids, reducing agents, peptides, tannin and tocopherol. Factor in this study is a type of vegetable and method of heating. Aceh people frequently consume this fish in fresh with complicated special recipe, so that the rate consumption of this fish is still low. Therefore, it is important to find the method for preserving this fish to improve its consumption. Liquid smoke can be used as one method to prepare the fish. The purpose of this study is to assess the quality of catfish under the treatments with and without soaking the fish in liquid smoke.Catfish was cleaned and washed, then it was dipped in solution with 2% salt for 30 min. Afterthat, catfish were air-dried for about 1 hour. About 200 ml of liquid smoke was diluted in 9800 ml water. After soaking in solution with 2% liquid smoke for 10min, catfish were dried by using a cabinet dryer which has three layers. The parameters observed were moisture content and sensory analysis. About 25 panelists had evaluated the samples for appearance, flavor, taste, texture, and color.The results showed that the combination process of smoking and drying might maintain the product quality. The moisture contents of all products were still in appropriate amount as required by the Indonesian Standar (SNI).  According to organoleptic test, the smoke-dried catfish was preferred by panelist than the unsmoked-dried one. Therefore, soaking catfish in liquid smoke can be used to improve the taste of the fish. Further study is recommended to evaluate the shelf life of smoke-dried catfish. The production of cocoa continues to increase significantly every year. Cocoa Pod husk is a waste product of cocoa beans industry, which is containing pectin with concentration ranged between 2-10%. Pectin extraction is one of the potential researches to increase economic value of cocoa pod husks. This study aimed to determine the effect of extraction time and pH on the characteristics of cocoa pod husk pectin. Pectin was extracted from cocoa pod husks using ammonium oxalate, extraction time (60 and 120 min) and pH (2.6, 3.6 and 4.6). The use of ammonium oxalate produced high yield of pectin ranged from 6.63 to 12.75%, moisture content was 7,36 to 10,77%, methoxyl content was 5.19 to 5.70%, anhydrogalacturonic acid of 59.84 to 63.14%, the esterification degree was 48.43 to 51.43 % and relative viscosity was 40 – 186,6 cP. The extraction time for 60 minutes at pH 3,6 showed a higher yield compared to 120 min at pH 4,6.
