The research was done in several fresh water ecosystem occupied by waterhyacinth in west java and DKI Jakarta, conducted during January 2004 to March 2006. Sweep net and yellow pan trap were use to collect the sample of insects. The result of the research showed that the existence of waterhyacinth may indirectly resulted in decreasing species richness and diversity of parasitoid insect. The observation also showed that the existence of waterhyacinth may lead to homogenization of parasitoid insect in aquatic vegetation. Factorial type of Completely Randomized Design with three replications was used in the experiment. The factor germination medium consist at three levels; river sand, sands of tsunami sand, washed tsunami sand; whereas deep planting factor consist of 2, 3, and 4 cm. The research result show that germination medium from sands of tsunami had high significant different on all parameters which consist of growth potential, germination ability, growth velocity, growth sincronization, and seedling vigor. Deep planting had high significant different on the all of parameters. There were no significant different on interaction between germination medium and deep planting on all of observed parameters. Fungal diversity on litter horizon layer of Acacia mangium were investigated to examined fungal species and fungal community on each litter horizon layer, and also to examined relationship between organic content of litter and fungal community. Twenty two species were isolated from three litter horizon layer with dilution method. Total fungal population on five years old A. mangium standing was higher than two years old, whereas on logging former area was low. Total fungal population on standing two and five years old were highest on L layer follow by F and H layer, but on logging former area were highest F layer followed by L and H layer. Aspergillus was dominate on H layer in almost of sampling collection area, beside that Aspergillus and Penicillium were found also on L and F layer. Generally L and F layer dominated by Sp7, Sp5, Sp20, and Sp22. The highest diversity indice on two years old standing was found at different layer.; L and H on health and Genoderma attacked standing, whereas on standing five years old, highest diversity indices was found at L layer, but on logging former area highest diversity indices was found at H layer. The objective of this research were to study the effect of nitrogen (N) from urea and phosphorus (P) from SP-36 fertilization on N and P uptake by sunflowers (Heliantus annuus L.) on Ultisol.The result of this experiment used was a randomized completely block design arranged in factorial pattern with three replications. The first factor was urea fertilizer (without N, 108.70, 217.40, and 326.10 kg ha-1 urea) and the second factor was P fertilizer (without P, 138.90, 277.80, and 416.70 kg ha-1 SP-36). The result of the experiment showed that, the application of increased urea at various rates of SP-36 affected on soil N total, P available (Bray-1), and yield of sunflowers. Nitrogen and P uptake as well as dry weight of sunflowers by application of 217.40 kg ha-1 urea was higher than without urea. Fertilization of 277.80 kg ha-1 SP-36 had influenced N and P uptake than without SP-36. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan percobaan pot yang ditata menurut rancangan acak kelompok (RAK) faktorial 4 x 2 dengan 3 ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah pemberian amelioran organik yang terdiri atas 4 taraf (jenis) yaitu tanpa amelioran, pupuk kandang, jerami padi dan daun gamal masing-masing sebanyak 20 ton ha-1 atau setara 111 g per polibag. Faktor kedua adalah aplikasi mikoriza dengan 2 taraf yaitu tanpa mikoriza dan pemberian mikoriza sebanyak 10 g per polibag. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian amelioran organik dan mikoriza berpengaruh terhadap pH tanah, P total (ekstrak HCl 25 %), P tersedia (Bray 1) dan indek ketersediaan P tanah serta dapat meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan hasil jagung. Kombinasi perlakuan yang memberikan  pengaruh terbaik terhadap status P dan pertumbuhan serta hasil jagung diperoleh pada pemberian pupuk kandang atau daun gamal yang dikombinasi dengan mikoriza. Organic Ameliorant and Mycorrhiza Increase Soil Phosphate Status and Maize Yield on AndisolABSTRACT. A common problem of Andisol soils is the high capacity for P adsorption, although total P content is relatively high. This characteristic causes inefficient use of P fertiliser, to the point that P deficiency can become a major constraint for crop production. This study aimed to determine the effect of organic ameliorants and mycorrhiza on the status of soil phosphate and yield of maize in Andisol.  The experiment was carried out in pots and arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) 4x2 factorial with 3 replications. The first factor is the addition of organic ameliorant consisting of 4 treatments: without ameliorant, manure, rice straw and Gliciridea leaves. The dosage of each ameliorant is 20 ton ha-1 or equivalent to 111 g per polybag. The second factor is the application of mycorrhiza, consisting of 2 levels, no mycorrhiza and mycorrhiza  at 10 g per polybag. The results showed that the application of organic ameliorant and mycorrhiza  affected soil pH, total P (HCl 25% extractable P), available P (Bray 1), and the P availability index and increased the growth and yield of maize in Andisol. The two treatments that provided the most effect on the status of soil phosphate and plant growth and yield of maize were manure, and Glyricidea leaves, in combination with the addition of mycorrhiza. Bireuen district has been known as soybean production centre in Aceh Province. However, average yield obtained is still under national yield. This research aimed: (1) to find out a relationship between land suitability and soybean yield, (2) to evaluate a relationship between land characteristics and soybean yield, (3) to determinate the land characteristics as determinable factor for soybean yield. There were nine characteristics sites were used under soybean farming that have land heterogeneity among sites and homogeneity within sites: 4 under rice field and 5 under rainfed. Natures of land morphology was evaluated each sites, and then soil samples were taken for soil properties evaluation in laboratory. The parameter of land morphology properties, physical and chemical were then adjusted according to the need of land suitability for soybean. Level of land management and its yield done by farmers were also evaluated. Yield from each plot (2 x 3 m2) was at random determined. The land suitability class was determined by comparing the land characteristics/land quality with soybean growth specification. Criteria made by Agriculture Department was used as a guidance. Futhermore, in order to determine determinable land characteristics were arranged in multiple linear regression analyses, in which yield of soybean as a Y and land characteristics as a X. Research result showed that the class of land suitability established were in parallel with soybean yields measure under relatively good management plots. Of the land characteristics that can be used as determinable factor were slope, rainfall, texture, drainage, and nutrient storage (pH). A multiple linear regression equation was established for soybean yield as follow: Y= -1.133 – 0.018X1 + 0.001X2 – 0.001X3 + 0.009X4 + 19.555X5 + 0.025X6 + 0.781X7 – 0.019X8; R2= 0.98, where : X1 = slope, X2= soil susceptibility to erosion, X3= rainfall, X4= sand fraction, X5= N-total, X6= P-available, X7= K-exchange, X8= base saturation, and R2= determination coefficient. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of N-hexane extract of the stem from Jatropha curcas were investigated. Antimicrobial activity was tested by using a diffusion method which each concentrations 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50%. The bacteria Salmonella typhii and fungi Candida sp were used. The results showed that extract inhibited both of S. typhii and Candida sp. Extracts at 50% concentration inhibit Candida sp with zones  inhibition 11 mm. Meanwhile extract at 30%-40% concentration inhibited S.typhii with zones inhibition 10 mm. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada lahan gambut pada agrosistem kelapa sawit di Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ilir, Sumatera Selatan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menduga cadangan karbon gambut. Prediksi cadangan karbon adalah sebesar 1,675.361 - 9.055,922 ton C ha-1. The Prediction of Peatland Carbon Stocks in Oil Palm AgroecosystemsABSTRACT. The role of peat on degraded land becomes extremely important and valuable, for being the last carbon stocks because of the loss of vegetation due to deforestation and forest fires. This research was conducted in peatlands that have been used for oil palm agro-ecosystem, Ogan Komering Ilir District,  South Sumatra. The purpose of the study was to estimate carbon stocks in peatlands. The results showed that the peat depth ranged from 200 to 850 cm, the bulk density between 0.211 to 0.347 g cm-3 and the organic C content of approximately 56.30 -58.31%. The prediction of carbon stock ranged from 1.675,361 ton C ha-1 to 9.055,922 ton C ha-1. Spodoptera litura is a polyphagus and primery pest on many plants. This insect can be infected by nuclear polyhedrosis virus (NPV) and tropical yam was knowingly capable of controlling the insect. The research was aimed at finding an effective concentration of combination of SlNPV and tropical yam extract on mortality of S. litura larva. The research was conducted in Plant Pest Laboratory of Plant Pest and Disease Departemen, Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University. The experiment applied a completely randomized design (CRD), consisting of six treatments and four replications. The treatment were in SlNPV concentrations of 0, 3x105, 3x106, 3x107, 3x108, and 3x109 polyhedra inclusion body/ml respectively, combined with poisonous for gadung extract in concentration of 120 ml L-1. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance and followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at level of 0,05. The result showed that application of combination of SlNPV and tropical yam extract was effective and compatible in controlling S. litura. In general, mortality of S. litura was significantly different than control. Mortality of S. litura at all treatments of concentration except S1 and S0 were 100 per cent at 9,8,8, and 7 day after application (DAA). Average of the fastest larvae mortality was 5,46 days given by 3x109 polyhedra inclusion body ml L-1 and the longest was 7,38 days given by control. Treatments of combination of SlNPV and tropical yam extract at concentration of 3x107, 3x108, and 3x109 was compatible and effective in controlling S. litura larvae with mortality level of 85,95, and 100 per cent at 7 DAA, respectively.
