The objective of this research was to evaluate the change of physical and chemical properties of peat soil of Jambo Aye Aceh Utara due to the depth of drainage treatments. The research was set according to randomized completely design with three replication. Pipes of alluminium with length of 100 cm and diameter of 30 cm was used to set the depth of drainage treatments. The depth of drainage treatments were: no-drainage, 20 cm, 40 cm, and 60 cm. The results showed the dept of drainage on peat soil affected some of physical and chemical properties of peat soil. From the physical properties point of view, the deeper of drainage was conducted, the more subsidence occurred, otherwise the higher bulk density was occurred. From the chemical properties point of view, the drainage more than 20 cm decreased pH, N-total, P-available, K-exchangeable, and Base Saturated, otherwise increased C-organic, Cation Exchangeable Capacity, and Al-exchangeable. It was recommended to use the drainage depth of 20 cm for controlling the change of some physical and chemical properties of peat soil. The objective of this experiment were to evaluate effects of drought stress at vegetative stage on growth, yield and leaf proline content of hot pepper. Drought stress was conditioned by reduction watering of crop show wilt symptom 70% during the period of 21 – 54 days after planting (DAP). Result of the experiment indicated that drought stress reduced plant height, branch number, stem, diameter, root length, shoot, root, and biomass dry weight and fruit yield. Sensivity index calculated based on biomass of five hot pepper cultivars showed that Prabu, laris, dan jati laba were the medium tolerance to drought stress. There was no drought tolerance cultivar if the sensivity index was calculated based on fruit yield. An ecological study of aquatic weed for biomonitoring trophic status of water reservoir system was conducted in Rawa Pening Water Reservoir, Ambarawa, Semarang Regency. This research was conducted from February to October 2006. Variables of study were taken from nine selected observation stations representing upstream, middle, and downstream both in wet season and dry season. The study was aimed to investigate the diversity of aquatic weed in Rawa Pening Water Reservoir at the three zones in both season in order to obtain bioindicator for trophic status of water reservoir ecosystem. The analysis on community structure of aquatic weed was carried out by describing data on the diversity of aquatic weed species. The similarity of aquatic weed characteristics among zones was analyzed on the basis of average similarity dendogram. The variation of water quality and aquatic weed characteristics among stations was analyzed using multivariate analysis based on the analysis of main component, while spatial distribution of aquatic weed was analyzed using correspondence factorial analysis. Based on the variation of characteristics of water quality, Rawa Pening Water Reservoir belongs to eutrophic status. Low diversity of aquatic weed in Rawa Pening Water Reservoir both in wet season and dry season (12 species) was observed. The dominant species in both season were Eichhornia crassipes and Salvinia natans. Other species found were Hydrilla verticillata, Pistia stratiotes, Chara sp., Nitella sp., Ipomoea aquatic, Cyperus cephalotes, C. pilosus, Alternanthera philoxeroides, Nymphoides indica, and Sacciolepis interrupta. Both in wet season and dry season, spatial distribution on the basis of aquatic macrophyte weed was evenly distributed and had grouping pattern of sufficienly high similarity (> 70%). The group tended to be dominated by E. crassipes and S. natans. Hama pengisap polong adalah hama utama yang dapat menyebabkan kehilangan hasil tanaman kedelai baik secara kualitas maupun kuantitas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan efektivitas insektisida botani pada beberapa varietas kedelai terhadap serangan hama pengisap polong tanaman kedelai. Species hama pengisap polong yang dijumpai pada tanaman kedelai di lapangan adalah: Riptortus linearis dan Nezara viridula.  Ada tiga jenis N. viridula yang teridentifikasi yaitu N. viridula var. torguata, N. viridula var. aurantiaca, dan N. viridula var. smaragdula.  Insektisida botani yang digunakan pada penelitian ini memiliki kemampuan yang bervariasi dalam mengendalikan hama pengisap polong pada tanaman kedelai.  Ekstrak daun Tephrosia vogelii dan Azadirachta indica dapat menurunkan intensitas kerusakan yang lebih ringan dan berimplikasi pada meningkatnya komponen hasil dibandingkan dengan menggunakan ekstrak daun dan bunga Lantana camara.  Ada perbedaan resistensi varietas Kipas Merah dan Anjasmoro terhadap kerusakan oleh hama pengisap polong yang ditunjukkan dalam hal perbedaan intensitas kerusakan, jumlah trikoma, dan hasil.  Tingkat kerusakan polong antara varietas Kipas Merah dan Anjasmoro disebabkan karakteristik dalam hal jumlah trikoma, luas permukaan polong, and jumlah polong per cabang. Jumlah trikoma pada varitas Kipas Merah adalah 41,6 trichomes/4 mm2 dan lebih banyak dibandingkan varietas Anjasmoro yaitu sebesar 29,1 trichomes/4 mm2.  Efficacy Some Botanical Insecticides for Controlling Pest Pod Sucking in Soybean FieldsABSTRACT. The experiment was conducted to study agronomy characteristics and mycorrhiza effectiveness of upland rice in green house with various levels of AMF inoculants and mulch dosage application. The experiment used randomized complit block design arranged in factorial pattern with two factors. This study aims to grouping the diversity of banana (Musa spp.) from Aceh Besar District based on vegetative morphological characters of banana germplasm. Observations included quantitative and qualitative characters. Grouping based on pseudostem height were divided into three groups. The first group, short pseudostem, is 4 accessions. The second group, medium pseudostem, are 9 of accession. Last, the third group, high pseudostem, are 7 accessions. While based on 28 qualitative characters, formed dendogram classifying banana accessions into 3 groups. The pot experiment were carried out to study effect of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) inoculation and rice straw humic substance treatment on yield of maize on ultisol. The experiment was conducted to obtain optimum rate of AMF and rice straw humic substance, which will be used as a guide to determine various rate of treatment in field experiment. The experiment used randomized block design and treatments were replicated four times. The first factor were AMF: 0, 1, 2, and 3 ton ha-1 and the second factor were rice straw humic substance: 0, 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75 ton ha-1. Result showed that the highest yield of dried maize grain were 5.2 ton ha-1 at the AMF optimum dosage of 2.4 ton ha-1 and rice straw humic substance of 0.9 ton ha-1. Fusarium wilt disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici is the one of important disease on tomato plant. The use of fungicides can give a negative impact on this environment. Currently, control methods that are environmentally friendly began to be developed again, one of which the use of organic fertilizer vermicompost (kascing). The objective of research was to study effectiveness of kascing to control F. oxysporum on tomato plant. The experiment applied a completely randomized design with 4 replications. The dosage of vermicompost studied consisted of 6 levels, i.e.: 0 g, 50 g, 100 g, 150 g, 200g, and 250 g of vermicompost. The result showed that the dosage of vermicompost significantly affected of incubation period of F. oxysporum f.sp. licopersici, the height of plant oat 30 days after planting (DAT), percentage of the wilt plant, the length of xylem discoloration, and weight of fruits. The best dosage of vermicompost is 150 g polibag-1. Field research has been conducted in Experimental Farm of Agriculture Faculty University of Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh from March to July 2006 for evaluation efficacy of pendimethalin herbicide mixtures and its effect on weed and yield of soybean. Pendimethalin+imazetaphyr herbicide at dosage of 1.0 kg+70 g.a.i. ha-1 could decrease dry weight weed and increase percentage of weed control. Dried seed yield were higher when pendimethalin+imazetaphyr herbicide was applied at dosage 1.0 kg + 70 g.a.i. ha-1.
